Shizuka Arakowa said she chose Denis for #1 because he is most experienced. I thought that meant he would go first, but I guess it could also mean last.

The wording in the rules is making me uncertain as to whether what I am calling Flight #1 would compete first or last.

Normally, the group that competes last has skaters with the highest world standings ... and Miyahara, Medvedeva, and Gold all are in what I have called Flight #1 ... so it would make sense in a way that Flight #1 would skate last.

But again, I am not certain.

Right, I guess we'll find out soon enough, but it is silly that we don't already know, and that we don't know what order they'll skate within their groups. The thing is, if they're going by world rankings, Denis is 3, but Jason & Sergei Voronov are ranked 7 and 4, respectively, Shoma is 5, Kolyada is 24, Adam is 10, Brezina is 12, Nam is 14, and Boyang is 13. So it might be tough to figure out which group would skate first!

Katmari, thanks for this!

Quick question - Im guessing these times are EST and not local (Pacific) time - do you agree?

The start order is now posted on icenetwork and the times listed do match up with the list from twitter:

http://www.usfigureskating.org/leaderboard/results/2016/23073/results.html

2016 Team Challenge Cup
04/22/2016 - 04/24/2016 (EDT)

7:51 PM Men's Head to Head / Men's Group 1 Start order
8:12 PM Ladies Head to Head / Ladies Group 1 Start order
8:38 PM Ladies Head to Head / Ladies Group 2 Start order
8:59 PM Men's Head to Head / Men's Group 2 Start order
9:40 PM Men's Head to Head / Men's Group 3 Start order
10:01 PM Ladies Head to Head / Ladies Group 3 Start order

To add confusion (so what else is new with this event), here's what icenetwork lists on the event page:

Scheduled (All Times Eastern)
Tonight at 10:30pm Men's and ladies short programs
Tomorrow at 4:30pm Pairs free skate, free dance
Tomorrow at 10:00pm Men's and ladies free skates
4/24/2016 6:00pm Exhibition

http://web.icenetwork.com/schedule/2016/04/2016_team_challenge_cup

The times would make sense if the result page was PDT instead of EDT ...

I guess it makes sense showbiz-wise for this U.S. show to lead off with Gracie (even if she has to be sacrificed to Evgenia), and close with queen-for-a-day Wagner (who could conceivably win her flight, although the smart money is on Elena), and Jason (Jin should crush him, but home-cookin PCSs may save the day).

Isn't home-cooking of PCS a myth? I would really like someone to present statistical or other evidence that it exists.

This is a strange competition imo. Except for the money is it taken seriously?

The Japan link is geo blocked in the US

Well I asked them via Twitter to confirm if listed times are EDT or PDT & will let u know. Also wanted to mention that tthe start order here is totally different than the breakdown in your post #10 - it shows the group of men as Jin, Brown & Voronov in that order followed by group 3 ladies, with Radionova, not Ashley, as final skater.

:agree:

So much for it being a quick question. Is is wrong that I think the random tweet is more accurate than icenetwork?

And even if the USFS leaderboard page did say PDT instead of EDT, its times would not in fact match the times in the unofficial tweet in post #10.

My two cents are that the random tweet came from a person who sometimes has not seemed very well informed (IMO) during past comps.

(In my estimation, his reliability would be a far cry from Mrs. P's, for example.)
