I've never been in Marseille and I'm still undecided whether to go to the GPF...one of the reasons is definitely security and logistics...is public transport good/safe? Is the area around the arena easily accessible? Is it better to stay in a hotel near the arena or in the city center?
If any of you wants to share their knowledge about this topic, I'll be forever grateful:biggrin:

Depending on your definition of "near", it appears there aren't hotels near the arena, except for one, which has been fully booked for ages. I have a room reserved about twenty minutes walk from there (will cancel it, though). Even with hotels in the city center, you still have to rely on the buses or metro. The bus lines don't seem too convenient (don't run very often in the evenings, I think), and the two metro stations appear to be a fair walk from the arena. If you're mobile, I don't think it matters much where you get a room, but it doesn't look like it'll be easy to get something near the arena itself.
edit to add: there's always the possibility of a taxi, of course.

Thanks for replying!

Well I am a good walker, but I'm not particularly eager to walk a lot at night in an unknown city! Maybe I should consider going by car, but then I'm not that sure about parking at the arena...

I kind of went on the assumption that since there only appears to be one hotel in the immediate vicinity, a lot of people are in the same boat, and so there'll be loads of people walking to the bus and metro stations, so I don't think it'll be an issue that it'll be late at night, dark in an unknown city etc.

I've never been there, though, so don't have first-hand experience.

Yes, if I really end up going it's what I hope will happen ;)

Hi! I will be living at Allées Turcat Mery street. Is it OK to go to the arena by foot? Google says it's about 20 min. There's no metro station nearby arena and buses seem like not much better option.

Hi yuna13, could you please also advice is it okay near Castellane metro station? How's the street like walking towards Perier station?

I think I can take the 18 bus to the venue, is there anyone also taking 18 bus? Just wanted to feel better if I know there will be people waiting to take the same bus back to the city after the competition :)

I will be with a friend, but well... the problem is the events will end in the evening, so there will be like one bus and lots of people so the logistics already gives me a headache

castellane is fine there's plenty of people cause there's bar , resataurant...so i wouldn't mind walking there or perier. what i said about the street state is because in marseille there's a lot of dog... in the street.

HI gwenyct I'm also staying near Castellane station (Ibis styles) so I'm taking the 18 bus too! Maybe we could meet up and find our way together. I'm only going on Saturday though.

confirmed by the organizers, the transparent Plexiglas used for hokey protection will be removed, so the view from the first rows will not be through the glass. Good!

Has anyone found any information about the bag restrictions going into the arena? My friend & I are arriving on Thursday lunch time, but we cannot check into our Airbnb until 7 - so if we want to see the juniors we will have to take our weekend bags into the rink. We will just have smallish backpacks, but I'm worried they won't let them in... the french fed website is of course very unhelpful for details like this!
