I was looking at his recent results and i would just like to point out that he's beaten, Keegan, conrad, roman, elladj ,Nam and liam in competion. He was 1st over conrad in sectionals, 2nd in skate ontario summer skate above Keegan, 1st in minto skate above Nam, roman and liam. And those are only in his first three competitions as a senior nationally at the age of 12-13. I can see him getting the national title next season and on the poduim this season.

He seems very promising.
Hopefully he keeps away from serious injuries so we can continue to see him in seniors.

We can now add stacking traffic cones to Stephen’s list of skills. He appeared in Conrad Orzel’s Instastory this evening, throwing one and landing it on top of the others perfectly. Conrad was clearly impressed lol

Multitalented, as a prodigy usually is ;)
By the way, where are they together now? I have no access to Conrad's instastory...

It looked like they were on the ice at the Cricket Club. Conrad's been skating there recently, possibly because he's working with one of the specialist coaches (like he does with Raf on jumps in the summer). However, he could be there for other reasons of course!

Oh i forgot! he also beat kevin too. so the only canadian top men he hasn't beaten is joseph phan and patrick chan.

I am very sure he won't be affected by the puberty monster he's in better training environment than eteri's camp and has been coached by Brian since he was 8-9.

Do you have proof of this? I recall looking yesterday at his ISU bio and other places and he is still listed with his current coach and rink. Also the CBC article on his FACE grant did not mention a planned coaching change, just that he’d use the money to pay for going to Raf for jumping this summer again.

I’d be thrilled if he moved there, but remain cautious without definitive proof like a statement or a change in his ISU bio etc. Since it’s off-season he could be easily training with one of the specialists at the CC.

I believe he’s at TCC under Lee not BOrser

I don't think it matters that much. We know that both Stephen and Gabby's primary coach is Lee, but it's not like Orser doesn't help out. Besides Orser has too many international skaters to watch that it makes sense having someone else in charge.

ISU bio doesn't tell us anything. H/B haven't updated theirs. Neither have the Japanese team who switched to Worlds a few weeks ago. And the CBC article was from a while ago. Skaters don't really announce that stuff far in advance. If he has moved, it probably was only decided a little while ago.

I mean, I'm not sure he's moved either, but those aren't good reasons to think he hasn't.

Of course not; but it is nevertheless evidence from an official source that will be updated at some point for the new season. All I was asking whether there was available harder evidence than "belief" or "I think", like a statement on a personal social site (Conrad's Instagram for example), an interview or article by a recognized journalist, etc. Rumours and gossip abound about skaters and I was hoping there was more than the Instastory gifs and other images that are taken at the CC that I hadn't seen. I don't disagree that Conrad is there; I just don't want to jump to the conclusion that he changed coaches based on speculation alone, since skaters often visit specialists after their competitive season ends. We could, for example, get similar images from a rink associated with Raf for a few weeks, and without the contextual evidence from the CBC article some might assume that Conrad had been taken in by Raf. Even adding specific information like "skater A normally only spends X amount of time when staying with specialist B; skater A has been at the specialist B's rink twice as long as usual" is more instructive than simply stating a belief.

So all I am doing is being cautious and curious when I ask for more evidence than speculation. Note that this is an admonishment to _myself_ as much as any of you. It's easy for enthusiasm to overwhelm critical thinking. Again, I'd be happy if he's there with Lee or another coach.

Just a quick note that Brian and Lee are both Stephen's coaches. Actually, Brian is listed first, followed by Lee, in his NextGen profile: https://skatecanada.ca/nextgen/

@Haleth: Unfortunately Conrad's been coy about his change of rink. We've been steadily getting stories from him at Cricket Club, training with other skaters. I would say one 'proof' of his having left YRSA is that he did not perform in their ice show. The show featured retired skaters but did not feature him even though his sister Amelia skated. Conrad was instead training at CC that day. He has in the past gone for guest training to Raf's rink and to Joanne in the summer (what he mentioned in his FACE profile) but that normally happens when school's out. Not in April. Which also suggests that Conrad is now Stephen's training mate full time. :)

There's no saying who will and won't survive a growth spurt but it's good to be supportive regardless of what happens.

I'd take his post of traveling by train (metro?) as a symbol of the move ;)
Anyway, as it's Stephen's fan fest, I'm glad they train together at the moment; having a competitor at the own rink is usually an advantage, for both of them.

Thank you so much, Mango, for the detailed evidence! I appreciate and feel more hopeful that Conrad indeed may have switched to the Cricket Club. They're a great family of skaters and coaches and staff!

Regarding Conrad, just because it's been a hot topic in this thread, of course because Stephen and he have competed a lot face to face and will continue to do so

1) I believe it's great that they train together and push each other. Conrad got better after growing : his jumps felt easier to him... he is still adjusting but that's what he said... it could inspire Stephen when things get changing for him.

2) Regarding public announcements etc, let's not forget the relationship Conrad developed with Eva, his first coach. She was basically a second mother to him and though I am sure that everyone sees the big picture and is happy for him going to club filled with talented skaters and coaches who have produced champions, Conrad could be playing it low not to hurt his former coach. It is always a very delicate situation when you go from a mentor who meant a lot to you, to another one...
