Kovalev has been substituted at the JGP Australia. Rukhin has taken his spot. I guess Kovalev didn't do as well as others did at the test skate event. Well, he still might get his JGP event of course.

Not to say that this is why Kovalev was substituted but Rukhin landed his 3A at the test skate event but Kovalev fell his 3A.

Well, I'm biased, but that's annoying. I don't doubt he'll get at least 1 jgp. Not a big deal; he's one of the youngest in the junior field.

He is one of the youngest even though Rukhin is almost a year younger and also Semenenko and Danielyan are younger than Kovalev. By the way, 2003 born seem to be a really good year for russian men's skating.

Kunitsa January 2003
Frolov February 2003. Assigned to JGP Austria.
Kovalev June 2003
Semenenko July 2003. Assigned to JGP Austria.
Danielyan December 2003
Rukhin April 2004. Assigned to JGP Australia.

He could be assigned to a later jgp. skirda, kunitsa, and gumennik have also yet to be assigned, so I suppose it's not a big deal. What a deep russian jr men's field, it'll be interesting to see who "makes it" in seniors later.

He might but one should take notice that Efimchuk (3rd at the Russian Junior Nationals) and Erokhov (5th at the Russian Junior Nationals) have also yet to get their assignments. One would think that most of the guys like Erokhov, Efimchuk, Ignatov and Savosin will do well enough to get 2nd event. If they do and some of the young guys like Frolov, Semenenko and Rukhin does the same then there will not be enough spots to Kovalev especially since guys like Skirda and Gumennik are most likely ranked ahead of him as well.

5-8 march was the Junior Moscow championship of older age. Artem confidently took the 1st place with 225 points and two clean programs with three 3A. He was injured in the 1st half of the season and became stronger with stable 3A. Junior Worlds was in the same dates and if Artem participated there, he would have taken 2nd place for sure. He will become a serious force next season.

Good to hear about him. It seems like a lot of the junior boys his age struggled this season with injury and/or growth, and understandably so. Nice to see him with clean 3As now!

I really missed Artem this season. I hope he can grow and improve even more. One thing I really love about him is how he skates to the music - in some part is the good choreography, especially in the FS, all the jumps and elements are absolutely in the music, and that's awesome to watch.

It seems Kovalev is still having trouble with his 3a. Hope he can still get one JGP assignment :(

Hope he can get that 3A down. He may be adjusting to a growth spurt still. Missed him(and some of the other young juniors) on the JGP last season!

I honestly hope he replaces Murashov in Kaunas. He performed better at test skates (Murashov missed all(?) his 3a too) and received great reviews on his programs.

And he still got assigned over Kovalev first?? Anyways, I'm excited to see his programs. Fingers crossed for at least 1 jgp!
