I liked it very much - I especially like how he really commits to the program. Speaking of, he really went for that 3A.

Has he been having trouble with his back?

He must have been to be wearing a back brace/corset :( I hope it's only due to growth like Danielian and not like some of the others. Samoilov wears a corset always and I don't want that for Artem.

Oh and that fall on the 3A  The camel spin didn't look easy either, I feared then he had back pain.

He has that gangly look that boys often develop when growing, so I really hope it is that. It would be terribly sad indeed if he had chronic back issues like Samoilov - and at such a young age, too.

His name wasn't among the JGP subs that I saw - could it be because of an injury, or do you think there may be some other reason?

Because of injury plus he is not on the National team (main or reserves) like the other 11 boys here although he said he was. They are probably waiting to see if he can get ready in time for the later events. It may start to get tricky though if the other boys do well at their first event. They may run out space.

Well he did take the brace off before getting off the ice. Fingers crossed it's nothing too serious.

- The end of the season for Artem was not good. He was injured in training. Hopped onto the pedestal and tore his shin apart. Doctors stitched, because of which, in May, did not skate. The situation is very disappointing, because before the injury the athlete was in good shape. In training, he jumped a triple axel, a quadruple salchow. But because of damage to the leg, he had to take a break.

After the vacation, in the middle of June we went to the training camp in Latvia. We returned with the guys on July 10th. Left early to work on programs in Moscow with Evgeni Plushenko. The programs were set by Evgeny Viktorovich and my wife Martin. Short is new. New style, serious music. Artem has not yet skated such a program. But trying, coping. I think we should try new things, move forward.

We changed the free program, although we left the music from last season, because he looks very good in this program. At the rental we wanted to show what he had gained. But shortly before the rental there were problems with the back, so in Novogorsk, he rode in a corset, and before that, he had been training in “painkillers” for two weeks.

Doctors believe this is due to the growth of the guy. Over the summer, he grew eight centimeters. The loads had to be reduced. But because of the rentals, it was impossible to completely remove them. Naturally, it takes time for everything to stabilize.

We don’t have a quad yet. Triple axels in training Artyom jumps stably. What happened at rentals in the short program with this jump, in my opinion, is unacceptable. Before the rental, everyone is worried, you need to be able to pack up ...

We are training now at the rink on Lobachevsky Street. The dimensions of the roller are “Canadian”, slightly smaller than the European standard. The conditions are good. Lots of ice, halls. The skating rink is a three minute drive from where we trained before. So in this regard, everything is in order.

Over the summer, Artyom grew up. Adult guy. 16 years. Savvy. Motivated. Works good. Not "freebie." The main thing is that there are no injuries, but otherwise he will be able to show himself, ”said Alexander Volkov.

Yes - get well soon, Artem! We're cheering for you!

Also, I'm not at all surprised that his 3A is consistent in training - that was the impression I got from the way he just threw himself into it in the short; that looked like someone who expects to land the jump, and therefore wasn't preparing for the eventuality of a fall. Hence the bad fall.

Video interview (post test skates)

I tried to read the English captions and I don't think it caught a whole lot of what Artem said. Lol

It was all pretty cryptic, wasn't it?

I paused each and every sentence, trying to disentangle any meaning out of them, and I doubt I got anything more out of it than you did.:) I think he said that he had landed the 4S two days before he was injured, and the 4T was on the way too. And after the injury they had worked gradually to get his jumps back, starting with doubles, then triples, and that he was glad he'd got at least the Axel back before the test skates. And that his hopes for the future of this season was to try to win each competition he was in, and to get the quad into the programs.

Was that what you got too? I'm honestly not sure if I got any of it correctly.:)
