Firstly, welcome to the 2016 edition of the Senior Grand Prix Predictions Game.

You will be pleased to hear that the Rules for the Senior Grand Prix Predictions Game are exactly the same as the Rules we used for the Junior Grand Prix Predictions Game.

And they are largely the same as what we used in the ISU and National Championship Games last season.

The only difference is that, because of the mess that arose during the ISU Championships Predictions Game last season, I am going to be strict about deadlines for the Grand Prix Predictions Games. But, that is the way it has always been for the GP Game, so in effect there is no change here.

So, like I did with the ISU and National Games in previous years, I have used tulosai’s explanation as the basis.

Rules (slightly re-worded for clarity, but in effect the same as last year):

  1. Guess the Top 5 finishers in each discipline at each Grand Prix. Each event will have it's own dedicated thread in which to make predictions. For handiness, I will provide a list of the entries in the first post in each of these threads.

  2. Although only the Top 5 will be scored, you are advised to include at least 6 skaters in your predictions lists for each discipline. The remaining skaters will be alternates in case any of the skaters you pick for your Top 5 withdraws or can't compete at the last minute.

  3. The deadline to get your predictions in is one hour before the first Short Programme of the event starts. If the pairs are first and they start at 7pm EST, you should aim to get your predictions in by 6pm EST.

  4. For your prediction to qualify for scoring, you must provide the full last name(s) in your predictions. The thread of each round will include the entries for each discipline, so all you need to do is copy and paste. Abbreviations, nicknames, first names will not be accepted.

Scoring

Each correct guess is worth 15 points. If you guess Mao will be first and she is first, that is 15 points. If you guess Mirai is 5[SUP]th[/SUP] and she is 5[SUP]th[/SUP], that is 15 points.

Each guess that is one placement off is worth 10 points. If you guess Ashley is 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] and she is 1[SUP]st[/SUP], you get 10 points. If you guess Gracie is 5[SUP]th[/SUP] and she is 6[SUP]th[/SUP], you get 10 points.

Each guess that is two placements off is worth 5 points. If you guess Akiko is 4[SUP]th[/SUP] and she in 2[SUP]nd[/SUP], you get 5 points. If you guess Tukt is 3[SUP]rd[/SUP] and she is 5[SUP]th[/SUP] you get 5 points.

Grand Prix Final

For the Final round of the Grand Prix Predictions Game (the Grand Prix Final), the rules are the same as usual EXCEPT for the points scored.

  1. As this Championship is the finale of the Grand Prix Series, there will be DOUBLE POINTS on offer. So, it will be:

    30 points for guessing right;
    20 points for 1 place out;
10 points for 2 places out.

  2. If you get the podium correct in any discipline, you will get a 30 point bonus.

  3. If you get all six predictions correct, you will get a 60 point bonus.

Consequently, you can earn up to 960 points for this round. (Thank you to Mrs. P for the idea of giving bonus points!)

These are the competitions that are rounds of the Predictions Game:

Senior Grand Prix Game

Round 1: Skate America (21st – 23rd October 2016)
Round 2: Skate Canada (28th – 30th October 2016)
Round 3: Cup of Russia (4th – 6th November 2016)
Round 4: Trophée de France (11th – 13th November 2016)
Round 5: Cup of China (18th – 20th November 2016)
Round 6: NHK Trophy (25th – 27th November 2016)
Round 7: Senior Grand Prix Final (8th – 11th December 2016)

This thread will be available for general discussion about the game, and for analysing how the game is progressing. But, please keep the predictions and subsequent discussion about each event in the specific thread for that event:

Skate America: Predictions Game Round 1
Skate Canada: Predictions Game Round 2
Cup of Russia: Predictions Game Round 3
Trophée de France: Predictions Game Round 4
Cup of China: Predictions Game Round 5
NHK Trophy: Predictions Game Round 6
Senior Grand Prix Final: Predictions Game Round 7

The scores for all the rounds will be recorded in the spreadsheet, which can be found at:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1D7RreM9U5WWqygxrkZnKrj11fORdcMfxFEvxZ9-2uag/edit?usp=sharing

Plus, if you want a handy way to keep track who is on the podium in each round, we have the HALL OF FAME thread, which can be found at:

Thank you so much to Mrs. P and the scorers of last year’s GP Game for making it such a success. This new game would not have been possible without you!

Good luck everybody!

Wow!!!

It is just as well that I decided to wait until everybody had posted their Skate America predictions before I uploaded the spreadsheet.

I normally have the formatting extending to 140 rows. But already, after just the first round, the 2016 Senior GP Predictions Game has...

152 players!!! :jaw: :jaw: :jaw:

I knew the Senior GP Game was popular, but I would never have expected that we would get this many players.

Thank goodness I waited, because it would have been a nightmare to edit the formatting outside of Excel. :drama:

Anyway, if you want to view the spreadsheet, it can be found here:

Hopefully you will like the numbers that get put into it over the next couple of months! ;)

:cheer: GOOD LUCK EVERYBODY!!! :cheer:

Correction - we only had 150 players after Skate America. I had 2 players listed twice! :rolleye: :slink:

Sorry for being stupid.

Only two bronze medals from dance and pairs for me while I screwed up the singles. Glad for the humble result though.

I wonder, why there was no game to predict finalists (6 picks for each event to reach the GP Final), unless I missed it.

I don't think it's been posted yet, but I imagine it will be up in a few days if not sooner. We have a little breathing room until the final, although I'm starting to put my lists together, and also want to wait until we find out if S/M will be in pairs or not.

I think Fetinia had something else in mind -- a game to predict who would qualify for the GPF.
(Now a moot topic, of course.)

Don't think s/he meant the upcoming game to predict the results at the GPF.

ice coverage,
Yes, that is exactly what I meant. I am new to the forum and joined prediction games mid-point, thought it is already there, otherwise I would've suggested it before Skate America.

Well, maybe next year?
