Ekaterina was so happy when she came off the ice today - she has such an infectious and lovely smile. Plus it was a clean skate for her today, without any URs! With the URs fixed, I expect her GOE for her jumps will go up; now I want to see the protocols, to see if she is getting the scores she deserves for performance. She is such a fun skater to watch, and today was no exception.

http://www.isuresults.com/results/s...OR----FNL-000100--_JudgesDetailsperSkater.pdf

Here‘s the protocol. She didn‘t only get no URs but her flip also only got ! as well. This shows that she‘s really working on her issues. I saw her really trying to push herself up as much as she could to avoid any calls and it was worth it. Of course she still needs a bit more height to get safely around and to make her landings look better too. But she‘s a hard worker so I hope she‘ll get there.

Her PCS are still criminally underscored but she’s slowly working her way up with consistency and charming performances. Hopefully now judges will start to see her quality.

I‘m very proud today and I bet her and Brian are too. She‘s improved so much this season already. Top 7 at Junior Worlds, top 10 at Euros. That‘s a good start. Step by step. Now for the Worlds. Go Katia! :cheer:

Ekaterina KURAKOVA: "Next season I'll be a senior. It was my first JWC. I'm so happy because we did hard work with Brian and it was important for me to show what Brian made for me. I'm really grateful to my coaches and parents."

These two :) Brian and Katya are a fantastic team. They clearly worked hard on Katya's jumps and it payed off! Hope Katya will finally get the component scores she deserves next season. She has great skating skills and is a fantastic performer! I always have a smile watching her!

Thank you! I am grumping a bit at the PCS, because I would dearly love to see her performance come up into the 8's, thank you very much, instead of sticking to the box of 6's and 7's that she seems to be in. As a dressage judge said, you have a full range of marks, so don't be afraid to use them. (Kudos to Judge 5 for giving her an 8 for interpretation of the music, though.)

But, grumping aside, may her form continue to improve, and may she have two good skates at Worlds!

I really love the relation brian seem able to establish with his skaters.
Even when i watch him with Zenya I have the impression of total unconditional trust that he's here for her.

Katia's debut at Worlds will have to wait. I hope she's satisfied with what she has achieved this season even without this icing on the cake.

I'm so sad not to be seeing her, I bought a little stuffed fox I was going to throw to Katia. Well, hopefully I'll see her at a future event

I know that Katia was in Canada after Worlds got cancelled but is she in Russia now? And are her end-of-school exams this year?

Anyway, I hope she is doing well and that it won't be long until we see her skate again!

Katia went to Russia in the end of March when she realized that the lockdown would last months, not weeks. She and her mother went directly to the family house (dacha) in the countryside near Moscow (Podmoskovie) so she has a lot of space for off-ice training. Three times a week she has online training with TCC coaches. She sounds very optimistic (as always) in the interview: https://sport24.ru/news/other/2020-...vyu-o-medvedevoy-koronaviruse-v-kanade-orsere (and she told a lot of herself in spite of the title of the interview ).
What is not very optimistic for the next season: they hadn't have time even to choose music for her programs before TCC was closed... But I liked both of her programs very much so I can watch them all the next season again :) The more she presented them only once on a senior level.

A really insightful interview with Katia. I'm relieved that she's back with her family but still in touch with her coaches and teammates.

"collecting mosaics" – interesting, I haven't seen it mentioned before. Are mosaics (мозаику) jigsaw puzzles?

I also wouldn't mind repeat programmes in this situation (it applies to all skaters). Katia's ones were so good that it'd be a pleasure to see them again.

Katia's been giving interviews not only for Russian media, but also for Polish - and in Polish!

Here you can see and hear her in the newest interview: https://sport.tvp.pl/47908757/koron...-skoki-bez-lyzew-tak-robie-nawet-te-poczworne

In short:
- she has online training with Brian 3 times a week via Zoom
- she's been training jumps (off ice obviously) to rotate faster, including quads
- she wants Poland to be proud of her, so she's been training in 120 percent every time
- competition between skaters is not always clean, which is why she used to watch over her things during competitions
- training with Evgenia motivates her a lot.

Her Polish is very good taking into consideration that she spends time mostly outside Poland and doesn't speak Polish on a regular basis.

For those who don't understand Polish, here is a rough translation: https://twitter.com/axelovelove/status/1258143968648445953.

Wow! Polish is a very difficult language to learn, it's impressive she's learned this much this quickly

LOL, the security of athletes’ locker rooms is never questioned?

She is very much right, for obviously there will be innocent and not so innocent attempts to throw the competitors off their game.

Messing with gear, sabotage, up to drugging, doping and poisoning, mugging and molesting, these all have been evidenced in sports.

Her speaking (taboo?) about this shows her pureness and innocence, but also a certain enviable naivity that makes her so charming.

Very charming as always! She's really special :)

And her Polish is indeed very good, perfectly understandable. As a Polish person myself I sometimes have to think for a second what case to use because there are 7 of them.

It's easier for Russians to learn than for Americans though. Slavic languages have some similaritites :)

You have to be careful with false friends though :) For example in Russian "огонь" means "fire" but in Polish "ogon" means "tail". It took me some time to figure out that "вращение" means "spin" because it sounds similar to the Polish word for "impression" ("wrażenie").
