About time!

There are some really mangled spellings in the entry list! (And I thought "Alexandre Maiorov" at the Universiade was bad!) :drama:

Here is the link to the Predictions Thread:

http://www.goldenskate.com/forum/showthread.php?62813

And since we have a few days to get predictions ready, I have changed my mind and decided to make this into a scoring round.

It'll give us a head-start before the drama of Junior Worlds.

Haven't seen any info about live streams but here is the official Youtube-channel.

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCh7DhudT1tteIreuk_fVmPA/featured

Here are some pics about teams arriving.

Thank you, The Finn!!! :thank:   :points:

Because a post further down that EYOF 2017 Twitter page says that there is going to be streaming on the Olympic Channel. And when I went to the Olympic Channel's website, sure enough, they are streaming the EYOF:

https://www.olympicchannel.com/en/events/european-youth-olympic-festival/

From the schedule picture, it looks like they are only showing Wednesday's Free Skates, though.

So, does anybody know anything about the Olympic Channel? i.e.

  • Are you able to watch everything everywhere, or is there geo-blocking?
  • Do you have to pay for it?

If it is free and there is no geo-blocking, it might be worth signing up for. Because they are showing the Asian Games next week as well.

Opening ceremony due to start NOW.

There is live stream on right now. I not sure what is it about since it is in turkish but if anyone is interested in it here is the link.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QI7UCyvmytw

Thank you so much, The Finn. I'll watch the YouTube stream, seeing as you can pause it and wind it back.

But, if you prefer the Olympic Channel stream, it can be viewed here:

https://www.olympicchannel.com/en/tv/livestream-5/

Turns out you don't have to sign up to view it.

Hope this helps

Opening Ceremony on air now.

Change of plan - watching the Olympic Channel as it has English commentary. (YouTube has no commentary so far)

The Olympic Channel coverage has ended, but there seems to be some sort of a performance on the YouTube channel now.

Good to see Polish skaters here. I was actually dissapointed no one was sent for Universiade...

Well, that first hour and a quarter was part of my life I'll never get back...

I was expecting some sort of show to kick things off. But, all the first hour and a quarter consisted of was a spoken introduction, the athletes parade, and a pile of (very long) speeches. There didn't even seem to be anything special about the arrival and raising of the Olympic flag, or the lighting of the flame - they seemed a very rushed affair.

Would I be correct in thinking that Nikolaj Majorov was the only figure skater to be a flag bearer? I may be wrong because I couldn't make out some of the introductions. But, the vast majority of flag bearers seemed to be short track skaters.

Disappointed that the Italian team only sent the flag bearer to the opening ceremony. He looked very lonely there on his own!

And I was very disappointed with what happened when the Cypriot team came out. There was booing from the audience, and there were no close-up shots like there were for all the other teams. It was all long shots, and because of this and the flag being so big, you couldn't see most of the delegation. The most I saw of Daniella was some of her hair!

I know that there are major issues between the two countries, but this is a sporting event. Politics shouldn't come into it. Andreas, Daniella and their teams were able to put the differences between their country and the host country to one side and go there to compete. The audience should at least be civil to them for making the effort.

:disapp:

But, the half-hour show at the end more than made up for the boringness of the first hour and a quarter. It was absolutely brilliant!!!

Why couldn’t they have had that at the start?!
