:ghug: for clean, fierce competition and no judges games (yeah, I can dream...), may the best team win!

<secretly wishing a good draw for teams with programs I like better>

I have to say I like the random starting order! Can't skip group 1 (not that I would want to anyway)!
I do kind of miss Weaver/Poje and Cappellini/Lanotte. I wish there could be 3 groups because these two and either Gilles/Poirier or another russian team would not have looked out of place.

The technical panel :

Referee: Ms. Alla SHEKHOVTSEVA (RUS)
Technical Controller: Ms. Christine HURTH (FRA)
Technical Specialist: Ms. Marie BOWNESS (CAN)
Assistant Technical Specialist: Ms. Judy BLUMBERG (USA)

who has more "power" between the tech controller and the tech specialist?

at least the score will be close unlike nhk sd score.

Whoever put together that technical panel must have a wicked sense of humor, or else is just plain wicked.

The main caller is Canadian BOWNESS (favorable for V/M) but if American BLUMBERG disagrees, then the French HURTH settles the dispute (favorable for P/C). If a free-for-all breaks out, then the ever-popular SHEKHOVSTEVA (RUS) steps in.

If BLUMBERG doesn't disagree with calls BOWNESS makes, those calls stand and HURTH can't do anything about it.

it's debatable IMO. Anyone correct me if I'm wrong but the technical specialist calls the level of each element. When the tech specialist & assistant tech specialist disagree on the level, the tech controller steps in decides on the call. So the tech controller "supervises" the 2 Technical Specialists but doesn't really make the call unless asked to.

I did a quick google search and Christine HURTH and Marie BOWNESS were the technical controller and technical specialist this year at Nebelhorn Trophy.

while looking at the tech panel is always interesting, let's hope that the team that skates best wins.

Chock and Bates skate first AGAIN?! This draw procedure hasn't been in their favour so far this season.

Well the Shibutanis had to skate first at both their GP events. Much better draw for them here though.

Yes, lol! Although the teams that most expect will be top two, P/C and V/M, are in the first group, so it will be very interesting how or whether skate order affects the judges' placements.

So TSL says that assistant tech specialist (Judy Blumberg) swings the vote. I don't think that's true, it's the tech controller that has this power right?

Anyway, technical panel aside, I hope we'll have a great competiton and the best team will win! I love both V/M and P/C (yes it's possible!). I prefer V/M's SD but P/C's FD.

The most important thing is that we will have a new GPF champion  Neither V/M or P/C have ever won the GPF!

I thought that both ATS or the TC could ask for a review of an element if they weren't 100% on the TS's call and then it's majority rules (?)

I'm also loving VM's SD and PC's FD. :) I do think VM might have a slight edge because their FD has been getting stronger throughout the season, and while PC's SD is lovely, it's a little forgettable (to me, at least).

So the four represented countries got the Referee and all Technical experts seats.
When I saw the Tech Specialist was canadian and Tech Controller was french, well.... I found it quite ... interesting. Is there any connection with those debates about NHK SD scores? Honestly, I don't know. May be. May be not.

As 4everchan said, and I fully agree with him, let's concentrate on the performances. At this moment of the season, most of the programs are almost finalised (well, not 100% as changes will be introduced for Europeans/4C and Worlds). I really expect all teams to perform very well their programs so we'll have a lot of fun, judges won't have to fight to assign levels or GOE and the competition will be really exciting. In the end, we want the couple performing the best at GPF to win whoever it is.

What do you mean about the connection with the NHK SD scores?

The Technical Specialist for NHK is not judging here. It was Andrzej DOSTATNI who has a reputation for being pro-Igor. I also remember that at the time he was often blamed for Delobel/Schoenfelder's numerous 4th place finish during the first years of COP (he was technical Specialist at 2005 Worlds, 2006 Olympics, 2006 Worlds for example).

Was just thinking about some endless discussions in various forums and emails about some SD scores, mostly related to level assignment.
As for Andrzej DOSTATNI, I was not aware he has the reputation for being pro-Igor Shpilband... Interesting indeed
