Go V/M B/S & C/B!!!:hap10:

LOL. I'm not sure if this is naiviety or just national blindness. :rolleye:

I think both V/M and P/C will podium, but as for third team, I'm not sure. The scores are really close this season. Logically it should be Shibs, but most thought P/C would easily win over V/M at NHK and that did not happen, and I give benefit of doubt to other teams, especially C/B. Their programs stand out, they had time to adjust programs and with good execution it really can go either way. B/S are in the mix too. Everything can happen, I think. It will be exciting! Love the unpredictibility :)

looking at the whole discussion about TC/TS/ATS/Referee influences over results, adding PCS game between judges' nationalities (brutally exposed on Skating Protocol instagram account) it's a shame for the discipline itself, for all these teams competing, but all these things are real and I think we can't avoid them, unfortunately, discussing possible results.

Generally, adding another (sad) thing in the mix - ice condition - it could be a specific event where the line between actual bad ice-induced slips and judging/calling games will be blurred...I just hope that all teams will produce their best performances considering ice condition, the rest is pretty much out of their hands...

Figure skating is a judged sport so there is always going to be a part of subjectivity IMO. Ice conditions, quality of boots & blades can also be factors.

It's also a small niche sport so everyone knows everyone, it's inevitable.
Take Judy BLUMBERG for example. She is Assistant Technical Specialist in this event and she used to coach the Shibutanis who are competing here. She used to compete against Marina Klimova/Sergei Ponomarenko (lost the FD to them at the 1984 Olympics which "cost" her the bronze medal). Their son Anthony is competing in the Junior Ice Dance competiton. You can find links like that with everyone!

The figure skating world is small but I trust that TC/TS/ATS/Referee and judges do their best to stay objective.

The main caller is Canadian BOWNESS (favorable for V/M) but if American BLUMBERG disagrees, then the French HURTH settles the dispute (favorable for P/C). If a free-for-all breaks out, then the ever-popular SHEKHOVSTEVA (RUS) steps in.

I have known Marie Bowness for over 20 years. A more honest and dedicated person/judge, you'll not meet. The panel seems well balanced which is great for the athletes.

After I was positive surprised by pairs tonight, which I did not think to become that interesting, I definitely believe that SD will be something worth watching. I do miss WeaPos and Cappellini/Lanotte but I hope that B/S can put a spanner in the works. They haven't been as exciting as last year, but I do like them a lot and wish them all the best. In my mind, I've got a whole range of scenarios for the podium and it was the worst discipline for me to predict in the Prediction Game. Good skates to all!

Gosh.. we are already on page 2 and it's tomorrow?

Level 4 twizzles for everyone and may the judging be fair and rational.

so SD is just after 7 pm and I have an ambitious plan leaving for the weekend 5 pm, getting home, clean, prepare dinner and wash my hair - probably not possible, shame...

anyway - never too early for some Praying Circles

:ghug: for good, poised competition, for me EVERY team has chance to medal, and it feels exciting - regardless if I like or not like some of programs

:ghug: for all girls rocking patterns, dresses (or catsuits/bare midriffs) and all the rest

:ghug: for all boys to stay vertical on twizzles, sharp in movement (for those doing hip-hop) and rocking all the rest

:ghug: for good judging

:ghug: for good ice

she's just so defensive all the time its comical:laugh:

I do hope that the fact that C/B's programms stand out will give them bonuses

I just wanted to say that I don't think just because you are from a country with a skater in the event that you are necessarily bias for that skater.

The thing about this panel is that both sides (V/M supporters vs P/C supporters) will have a reason to question the results. However, having seen people in the men's SP thread say that the Korean judge would be pro Canadian I'm convinced that it ultimately does not matter. Some people see what they want to see and only what they want to see. Confirmation bias run rampant. Depresses the crud out of me. Let's wait until the performances actually happen to decide if the whole thing is rigged.

And why is it that I'm starting to picture Sugarpova as a globe trotting, cabana boy hiring, sun worshiper?

The only thing I hope for is that Bowness doesn't overcompensate and ding V/M unfairly in her attempt to be fair.

I know - if you look at CAN judges this is what they quite often do. They sometimes are actually the lowest scores for their own skaters while the other countries are the highest for their own.

V/M won Worlds 2012 with Bowness as TS and Christine Hurth as TC. I think this panel will be fair but tough. Each skater just needs to be as clean as possible and hit their levels and may the best team win.

And Judy Blumberg was the assistant technical controller at 2012 Four Continents where V/M got 3.5 higher in base value in the FD over D/W. I'm not saying this is a V/M-friendly panel, but it seems like from past calling history, they seem to call it like they see it. Bowness and Blumberg were also in the same roles at 2013 Worlds and even though that wasn't a good comp for V/M, they had the same TES calls as D/W there.

I just want to add.. Lets hope the CBC stream actually lets us see the skating from the start.

Making Tilapia for the dog. He's complaining because his lunch is going to be late and the he can smell the fish. He will eat after ID (unless he "talks" me into it- if you know GSD's you know that they talk)

Still haven't fixed GB's picture so it's not on it's side. :-(

:coffee: but tea because coffee is icky.
