You never know! I'm keeping my fingers for Takahito Mura now. Might be his only chance to seize the title! Though I guess everybody need to change their predictions now, with Yuzuru WD.

Now that Yuzu is out :sad21:, this is the best chance for the men to pull an upset. This might be the only year for Mura and Tanaka to even have a chance of winning a national title. They would need Uno to falter but not impossible. And it would certainly shake things up for the remainer of the season going into PC.

I'm also going to need Mao on the podium, because worlds. :agree2:

THIS IS YOUR TWO AND A HALF HOUR WARNING.

You have just 2 hours 30 minutes left until the target time to get your predictions in, i.e. until 19:00 JST (10:00 GMT / 11:00 CET)

But, as usual in my Games, this is just a target time so that you are not rushing about at the last minute. Predictions for each category will still be accepted up until the start of that category’s Short Programme.

Now back to my Men's predictions (where have all the familiar names gone?! :drama: )

I'll do ladies and then the others if I have time:

1. Satoko Miyahara
2. Wakaba Higuchi
3. Mao Asada
4. Mai Mihara
5. Rika Hongo
6. Kaori Sakamoto
7. Marin Honda

I think this one is a hit or miss for Mao. If she's back in at least her 2015-2016 season form, then she'll most likely be on the podium. However, the others may give a challenge technically to her.

The Hunger Games from Russia continue in Japan!

I always hate predicting on Japanese Ladies. Because there are so many that I like. Put it like this – when I ordered them by absolute PB, I could say that I liked all of the Top 15!

Plus, every year I have to go through the pain of pushing Kana Murakami down the order, as I get to like more of the Junior skaters. And it was even more painful this year, because her SB puts her into… 20th position!

No prizes for guessing who I am putting on the podium, and in what order. Or for who I am putting into 4th position. Totally predictable, aren’t I?!

But then came the problem. A whole bunch of great Junior skaters (or recently moved up from Juniors), and I couple of Seniors that I have rated. And to make matters worse, the absolute PB’s for those 6 skaters after Wakababy are all covered by just 7 points.

I really didn’t know what to do. Because I like all of them. Honda has the highest PB, but she withdrew from the Junior GP Final a couple of weeks ago. Mihara was really impressive in the Senior GP Series. Sakamoto was 3rd in the Junior GP Final. Shiraiwa was the 4th Japanese skater in the Junior GP Series Standings. And I have always rated Imai and Nagai, although they have not fulfilled their potential.

Given the last statement, I decided to put Imai and Nagai in 9th and 10th. In that order. But, for the younger skaters, I couldn’t decide. So, I took the kop out of using the absolute PB order. Although, the other statements I made above did point in the same direction.

Japanese Men is usually really hard, because there are so many that I like. But this year, there are not so many names that I recognise. Most of the familiar names that I would be dithering over have retired.

With Hanyu out of action, it should be Uno’s title to lose. But, Mura is also capable of nicking it if Uno slips up. And Tanaka could also be a dark horse if he skates really well and both Uno and Mura make a mess of things.

But, much as I would love to see Mura finally become Japanese Champion, I think I will go safe on this one.

For the rest, there are only a few names that I recognise (and one of them was 3 from the bottom on the absolute PB list!) So, I decided to bow to the absolute PB order and move onto the Ice Dance.

Dance was actually straightforward. I had the 2 teams we normally see in the same positions I normally put them. Komatsubura’s absolute PB from her partnership with Andrea Fabbri would put her in 2nd position. But, since she is returning to Japan after such a long time, and with a new partner, I decided to be cautious.

As for the other two couples, Mori / Suzuki have a very low absolute PB, and I could find absolutely nothing on either Takahashi or Okuda (not even from Singles)

I’ll do Pairs in a separate post, because I have to go out now to see if I can get an overdue hair cut. (Problem with taking sick around the time it is due, and then Christmas arriving!)

Pairs was actually quite tricky. With Takahashi sitting out last season as she was working in a new partner, Suto / Boudreau-Audet unsurprisingly won the National title. But, now that Takahashi is back, it is hard to tell what will happen.

Takahashi’s new partner is Ryo Shibata. He seems to have been out of the game for a good while, as the last results I can find for him (in Singles) were from the 2009 / 2010 season. Shibata never had much success at senior level, but in his 2 seasons in Junior GP’s he had 2 wins, a third and a fourth. He was also 4th in the Junior GP Final in his first year competing internationally (he was 7th the following year, 2 places behind a certain P. Chan).

But that was over 10 years ago.

I have no idea how Shibata is going to go as a Pairs skater. But, after all the disappointment Takahashi has had since the enforced split with Mervin Tran, I really want her to do well. Especially as this will, in all probability, be her partnership for the Olympic season. And I really want her to get the opportunity to go to the Olympics, because she is too good to be looking back on her career in years to come and saying “I never competed at the Olympics”.

So, I’m going with my heart and putting them on top.

As for the other 2 couples who were taking part last year, and who are back this year, are very well matched. Ono / Killing were second last year (with their absolute PB score), and Suzaki / Kihara were 7 points behind in third. HOWEVER, Suzaki / Kihara have since beat them at the Asian Trophy, and in the process set an absolute PB which is 0.03 ahead of Ono / Killing.

This is going to be tight between them. But, since the momentum seems to be with Suzaki / Kihara, I am going with them.

I am so looking forward to scoring this competition!

Here are the Pairs results.

Very interesting results.

Only two people predicted against Suto / Boudereau-Audet winning. Marin and CaroLiza_fan were the only ones that predicted that Takahashi / Shibata would win.

Suffice to say, we were wrong, and everybody else was right.

Where Takahashi / Shibata were placed accounted for most of the differences between the predictions. 5 players put them into second. 3 players put them into third. And 8 players put them into fourth.

They did finish fourth and last, unfortunately.

Despite this, the majority of players did manage to win a medal!

There were just two players that did not make it onto the podium. Marin scored 30 points. tinnychan only predicted who the winner would be, but got it right and so scored 15 points.

So, here are the podium positions:

GOLD with 60 points: Gia_Sesshoumaru, Hyena, Moxiejan, rosacotton, voolfee, Weathergal.

SILVER with 50 points: casualfan, Florencito, invisiblespiral, matmuh, sunnystars.

BRONZE with 40 points: apgold, Crossover, DaPurpleDino, eta, icekiwi, ines42575, Nathan13, Puchi, SnowWhite, ssffww, Sugarpova.

Congratulations!!! :cheer:   :party2: :points:

There was one player who posted their Pairs predictions after the SP had actually finished. But, if their predictions had been scored, it would only have brought them 30 points anyway.

In case you didn’t know, that player would be me. :slink:
