Congratulations to Shoma for his first Nationals title. Happy that Dad Keiji and Mura were on the podium too.:p

Woah, JNats never this inflated and men's field never so shallow in 10 years, very underwhelming competition. :disapp:

I don't know if it's inflated or not, but this is the lowest winning total score in 4 years. -That is to say, Yuzu's Nationals wins.
But before that, Daisuke, Kozuka and Oda all won their championships with scores between 240-260. A different era then, when you could win with only one kind of quad.
One thing is certain, the field is very shallow right now. I miss Daisuke, Kozuka, Machida and Oda so much.

It comes down to tech panel being very Xmas happy, 'cause even on low quality slow-mo you can clearly see at least two quads and a triple axel were NOT rotated.
Seriously 192 with no clean quad and REP, JSF is going to beat Russians ?
The score is shameless, they could give him deserved scores which is 15-20 pts less and he would be champion in any case. This is so irritating honestly.
Doesn't Shoma ' s score seem a little too high? There is a penalty for two same quads with no combo right? Not sure this should only be 3 points behind his GPF score. My guess is jsf wants to always have him score in a way so that he doesn't fall behind Nathan in people's minds.

Seriously, do you have eyes than the technical specialist? Honda-san also said he lotated his quads. Do you actually see each element and the corresponding score?

I dont know why they critisize like this. Provably they hate japanese skaters and just want to complain.

And so they should. The US fed is pushing Nathan to the judges like crazy, and we've seen what happened when the Chinese fed didn't push Boyang at all.
It's Nationals, let them push as hard as they possibly can.

Not like I can stop them.
And there's pushing and then there's this, which is a bit of an embarrassment. Not everyone will just look at the score. Pre-rotations, under-rotations, well, everything said before. Nothing lasts forever and he doesn't seem to be trying to fix his problems.

I just find all this very, very curious. Well, careful JSF, careful is all I'll say. You might find yourself with nothing in hand.

Look at the ridiculous scores at other Nationals. Spanish, Russia, upcoming Canada…. I dont know why they critisize like this. Provably they hate japanese skaters and just want to do them.

actually yes I might be more qualified than some of isu specialists and why are you sure I am just a casual fan?
It is not like GS is all about amateur lovers of figure skating there are some coaches, specialists, future specialists and skaters here.

I agree with you today's competition was almost alarming for me tbh, it is going all wrong all wrong, I am not basher or a hater I see serious problems there and if it is not fixed I am afraid end might be soon and very sad. I don't know how can I explain here that I am not a hater of anyone. :disapp:

Goes to show what I know...I actually thought Shoma's FS was quite good....especially considering how nervous he obviously was. At the very least he's shown he can skate a decent program even with an extreme case of the nerves.

Anyway, Congratulations to Shoma on his first National win, Keiji on his 2nd place finish and Mura for delivering a fabulous SP.

Also, great job by the Junior boys particularly Kazuki, Koshiro, Sena (congrats on the 3A!) and Tsuboi! I know Mitsuki is still dealing with an injury but Yuto...:( Kazuki is already 18 but the rest of them are still quite young. Hopefully they will continue to grow and possibly become Japan's next generation of great male skaters.

The rule was changed quite a few seasons ago. The second 4T received a +REP which means it's worth 70% the original base value but didn't count as a combo.

Thank you for this. Now I get it better, I was also confused on why there was no Zayak

Eh, to some any criticism is hating so just ignore it. It's not like Shoma's issues are even new and they have been talked about for quite a while. I guess we'll just have to wait and see how all of this unravels eventually but I am not liking any of it.

Sorry but LOL.
I've been very critical of other Nationals over the years and it's a BIG pity that Japanese one, once upon a time regarded as one of the few National Championships with fair and good judges and panels and with very little if any overscoring, has decided to join the laughing stock.

As for being a tech specialist or not, you just need to watch the clip Jackie Wong posted and I linked in my comment (here again https://twitter.com/rockerskating/status/812663201259200514 ) to see that those jumps' rotations were all more than questionable (Now, waiting for protocols we can kid ourselves and think that a FS with 2 quads and 1 3A < and a quad+REP can get 101+ TES and tell ourselves that they were judging fairly and not Xmas-happy, of course)

Look at Kanako and you can see Shoma's future. They can push him at home, but the international judges won't look away forever

Congrats to the medalists :)

Unfortunately getting nitpicked and criticized for everything is the name of the game once those medals start hanging around the skaters neck. It'll only get worse with each passing season, no one said being on top is easy. :noshake:

Notable absence from JNat threads this year is Canadian Skater Guy. If that was Yuzu, CSG will rip apart the score for 3 pages (remember last year)

Shoma crying...:( There was a lot of pressure/attention on him after Yuzuru withdrew, but I think this experience will help him in the long run. After all, it's a preview into his future. His SP/FS weren't his greatest performances, but still...Shoma's first national title! It certainly won't be the last one. Also, I'm a bit sad for Mura, but Keiji brought it. Yuzuru, Shoma, and Keiji will make the cutest Worlds team.

A huge congrats to the medalists! :clapper:

I thought Yuzu's fans not being interested in other skaters were the only culprits for the lack of discussion on Nationals.
Who knew CSG and 4everchan were actually the biggest Hanyu's uber? :p

I don't think that pointing out big mistakes is "nitpicking" :coffee:
