Good gracious, hang in there, Aisha! That place sounds like it's run worse than a 5 year old's lemonade stand.

As someone who had a lot of professors who aren't native English speakers, yes, grammar>>>>>>pronunciation. You don't need to sound much like a native English speaker to be understood by most people.

As an amusing aside about that, one of those professors went to graduate school close to the area I'm originally from, and he had traces of the obscure regional accent in with his thick (insert native country here) accent. It was hilariously adorable to hear someone with a foreign accent pronounce certain words the same way I do after not having heard anyone outside my family pronounce them that way since I moved away from my hometown.

I am getting so frustrated.

I have been making a fan video over the past couple of weeks, and I have it pretty much finished. Except for one clip that I want to include.

About a year ago, the person I am making it for had a video as her Profile Pic (I know, that doesn't make sense to me either!) And I never thought of downloading it at the time. But since she changed her Profile Pic back to an actual photograph, the video has disappeared from her profile.

Fortunately, I have managed to find the original source for the clip. It is right in the middle of a 2h 38m long YouTube livestream of a competition. The problem is that I cannot get any of the downloading websites to download it! They just will not accept the video.

And it is really annoying me, especially since the bit I need is only 15 seconds long!

So, any ideas?

(Ideally, I would want it saved as a WMV file. But I am getting to the stage that any video format will do!)

Can't you just use screen recording software (i.e. Bandicam)?

I just paired a nice red wine with cheeze-it crackers. Keeping things classy in my 30's.

You are an absolute genius, sabinfire. :cheer:   :party2: :points:

I was so worked up about the websites not working that I hadn't even thought of any alternative methods.

I don't have Bandicam, but I do have OBS Studio. So, I'll try that now.

Good to see you on here again. It's been too long since we chatted!

Just an update to let you know that it worked perfectly!!! :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:

Well, as has always been the case when I have recorded things with OBS, the audio is awful. But, that doesn't matter in this case because I am using a song as the audio in my video.

Admittedly, I had to experiment a few times with different file formats. OBS doesn't have the option of saving as WMV, and the default option (FLV) wasn't recognised by Windows Movie Maker. I then tried MP4, and fortunately Windows Movie Maker did recognise that.

So, thank you so much for the suggestion, sabinfire.

I was watching a classic film on Monday, and I have to admit that although I found the character the leading lady was playing a bit annoying, I still spent a good chunk of the film admiring her beauty.

Just take this scene.

Boys, but she was beautiful!

You could even say she was sensational! :agree:

And then I started hearing a little voice from my shoulder "but she's the grandmother of one of the skaters you have adopted..."

Kinda puts things into perspective. :p

Didn't know when I was watching it that this was her final film. Of course, the circumstances of her marriage meant that her acting career just could not continue. It would have been a security nightmare. But, I never realised that she was as young as 26 when she retired.

Such a shame. She was already a massive star as it was, but given how good she was, you can imagine the heights she would have reached if she had continued.

But, at least we did get to enjoy her talent for that short time. It makes you appreciate it more.

I was hoping to go to the Annual Skating Gala that's on at the ice rink I go to tonight, but none of my friends are able to come with me and I don't want to go by myself.

Would you go to an ice skating gala by yourself?

Without hesitation, yes!

But, I'm the sort of person that if I go to an event, it is because I specifically want to see it. Socialising with other people isn't important. In fact, I'm the sort of person that goes straight home as soon as an event is over. (I mean properly over. Not "over" as in leaving before the podium ceremony at a competition, or anything like that).

Plus, I don't have any friends that are interested in figure skating anyway.

So, just you go and enjoy watching the skating for yourself! :agree:

Aww well it's too late to go now alas. Fortunately they do have this gala every year so I can go next year.

My problem is I like to make comments when I watch stuff, and I'm like "I don't wanna make comments to myself!"

I am hoping to go ice skating this weekend though, which will be fun!

Ach, sure I find that some of the best conversations you can have are the ones that you have with yourself. ;)

Seriously, though. I'm one of those people who doesn't really like people sitting next to each other making comments while watching something (be it on TV or in real life), because it is very easy to miss something that could turn out to be significant if you are distracted momentarily.

Which is why the number of comments I make on here during competitions tends to tail off as the competition progresses, and especially when it reaches the final groups.

Enjoy your skating! :)

She was wonderful in this but the film was bittersweet...

My very favorite scene of her with the incomparable Cary Grant...

Yes, I can see why. Such great acting from both of them.

But, after watching that scene and watching "High Society", I'm now starting to wonder if all of Grace Kelly's characters were such flirts!

You know, I am trying to make a point of watching more films from that era. Because it truly was the golden age of cinema. They just don't make them like that any more, which is a real pity.

I have already been keeping an eye out for "Casablanca" being shown on TV for a while, without any joy yet (it is currently available on Sky Cinema's on demand service, and that isn't in our package). But I see that another film I have been keeping an eye out for, "Gone With The Wind", is being shown tomorrow afternoon on RTÉ1. So, no prizes for guessing what I'll be doing after I get home from Ju-Jitsu!

A few nights ago, I ended up watching The Great Beauty (dir. Paolo Sorrentino 2013), what an absolute luscious film. I'm kicking myself for missing this when it came out in theaters.

As planned, I watched "Gone With The Wind" on Saturday afternoon. It may have been very long, but it was worth it!

But, boys, Scarlett was a piece of work. She really was shameless!

Now for another related confession. On Saturday night, I taped another film that I have wanted to see for a long time. And I watched it last night.

And nearly 20 hours after I finished watching it, I'm still trying to work out what it was about!

"2001: A Space Odyssey"

I have always liked Arthur C Clarke. I watched his "Mysterious World" and "Mysterious Universe" series when they were repeated in the late 90's. And a girl I was friends with had actually met him a few times (her family frequently went to Sri Lanka on holidays). So, because of this, I always looked forward to watching this film. But, I just ended up being confused.

There were 3 distinct stories, each of which made sense on it's own. But, they didn't seem to make sense together. Well, there was actually one thing linking them, but it was only hinted at. I was expecting that everything would get tied together properly at the end of the third story. But, instead of tying everything together, the film just got totally weird for it's final section. And the story of the link was never actually explained to us. :drama:

But, I can't complain too much, because at least I got to listen to some good music from the Strauss family and from Aram Khachaturian during the film. That said, I also got to listen to some really weird music from a Hungarian composer who I had not come across before, György Ligeti. And who, based on what I heard in the film, I would not be in a hurry to hear again.

This is the second time I have watched a film and at the end of it haven't had a clue what it was all about. The other one was "Minority Report", which I went to see at the local cinema when it was released.
