Notable: the pewter medalist, Emily Zhang, did a CLEAN 6-TRIPLE FREE SKATE (including a 3-1-3). :jaw:

It's way too early to tell if any of these girls will make it big. But if skaters are showing this much technical content at the lower levels, it could be a sign of great things to come for the U.S. ladies.

They called her half loop UR, but whatever, clean enough, it was a brave move. For intermediate, 83 is a super high score--it would probably even be a competitive score in the Juniors FS. There were a lot of impressive free skates I thought.

It's way too early to tell if any of these girls will make it big. But if skaters are showing this much technical content at the lower levels, it could be a sign of great things to come for the U.S. ladies.

The ISU change 6 years ago from downgrading all underrotated jumps to distinguishing between < and << surely helped the current juniors and young seniors start attempting harder jumps sooner, as soon as they were getting close,

Two years ago the US started giving bonuses to double axels at juvenile and intermediate, and triples at intermediate and novice, as long as they are not downgraded, even with falls or other major errors. That's an even bigger incentive to start trying them sooner.

So we've seen more younger skaters devote more of their attention to training difficult jumps earlier, and more have been putting them in their programs lately.

To some extent that may be at the expense of working on presentation at these levels. But for those who do have the possibility to master triples, focusing on them earlier is probably helpful for achieving that potential. It's easier to improve presentation after mastering the jumps and basic skating skills than it is to first learn triples after the major growth spurts. And the most talented most ambitious kids will continue to work on all of it.

Tatiana's kid Won!!!!!!!! Just like his Mother, Awesome!!!

He did and good for him, but I was pretty bummed because his main competition, Samuel Mindra, who had the highest qualifying score at sectionals, withdrew from Nationals a few days ago.

I'm sorry to hear that. I hope it wasn't too serious an injury. It's always heartbreaking to hear about a last second injury. I hope he can recover quickly.

I don't know if it was an injury. Though it's quite plausible.

Congrats to all of the Intermediate competitors for making it to Nationals and entertaining all who had the opportunity to watch. I look forward to seeing what 2017 will bring to all of these young, talented athletes!
