Uhm, isn't anyone else feeling that this could be an incredible ladies event?

I think it's supposed to be Zijun Li rather than Xijun Li of China.

Yes, I believe that Zijun is the transcription used on her social media...and how it is written in the ISU biographical database..

BTW, I am really looking forward to seeing how she is progressing with regular coaching support in Moscow from Team Mishin. It was really hard to see her without a coach this fall.

She has real promise, and I hope that Team Mishin can help her progress to a more mature style.

According to a link posted on Satoko's fan fest, she will be withdrawing from this event (and Asian Winter Games) due to injury.

http://www.isuresults.com/events/cat00028805.htm

The entry list has not yet been updated. Rika Hongo and Kanako Murakami are listed as substitutes. My guess is that Rika will end up going to 4CC, but we'll see.

Thank you, Mrs.P, I copy my post from "Entries thread".

Sad news, Satoko Miyahara withdrew due to stress fracture of left hip joint.

http://headlines.yahoo.co.jp/hl?a=20...000068-dal-spo

She needs 4 weeks to be fully recovered and Rika Hongo competes in 4CC. I wish Satoko speedy recovery.

The article says Kaori Sakamoto competes in Asian Winter Games.

This should be an interesting event and may have some big surprises. With some of the WDs it now means we have a few good ladies (Chartrand, Nagasu, and Hongo) who can skate lights out knowing this is their last event of the season up against others who may want to save their best for worlds!
I mean I would hate for Kaetlyn and Gaby to have their best skates at 4CC and not do as well at worlds. Worlds is the big one this year as it will decide numbers for the Olympics! But then again it would be nice if both could get a great International Free Skate under their belt before worlds.

Sorry to hear about Satoko's injury. Are we expecting an unpredictable podium for once? So rare these days, but given no Russian ladies to take part, totally expected :p

US lady may have a chance, and Kaetlyn's time to shine.

I'd love a surprising podium finsh for Zijun however! She deserve better results. Will we see Mishin @ Kiss'nCry? (big broccoli optional)
and Go Karen and Mirai ~~ !!!

No excitement for this ladies line up? C'mon we need to get a party started in here too! :dance3:

I am a bit surprised there are fewer ladies then men. At most Senior B competitions it's the other way around. But it seems not all countries have age eligible ladies who have met the TES requirements.

I guess we'll get to see an interesting battle between South Korea, USA, Japan, Canada, and some of the star ladies from other nations.

This will also be Elizabet Tursynbaeva's Four Continents debut.

I am with you Mango, but I must say how disappointing it is to see the lack of news and articles regarding this event in Korea.

To the media at large, there is more to the news than Donald J. Trump, and similarly more to sport than just professional teams. Please do your job!

If you would like pay the salaries for the thousands of sports (and news) reporters who have been laid off in the last several years, that would be a good way to get the coverage you want. They are not covering 4CC because they don't want to; it's cause they're unable too.

The ranks of Olympic sports reporters are dropping. Phil Hersh took a buyout with the Chicago Tribune (the nicer version of a layoff) and is only still around cause he's well-known/well-regarded enough to get freelance gigs.

And I think covering a president who is passing policies that could change the way the U.S. operates is pretty important.

And guess what, the reporters are doing their jobs, alright -- with fewer benefits, more furloughs and under low morale and under constant attack from the public.

I apologize for the off-topic, but I have friends who are in this field (including several in sports) and I just won't stand to hear accusations that they're "not doing their job" when they are stressing out to the max and dealing with such unideal conditions at the moment.

There should be lots of media in Gangneung for 4CC because it is the Olympic test event and the last major ISU championship before Worlds. Hopefully we'll see some good stories about these talented ladies.

Alaine Chartrand posted a video in which she's meeting some animals on site. An albino peacock and a snow monkey. Have they got a petting zoo on site or something?

Today is actually Elizabet's 17th birthday. What a great place to be celebrating it!

With all due respect Mrs. P, I am fully aware of the present state of the news media industry. I have family involved in the industry so it is personal as well. This issue for me, it is something that several of my Canadians peers and I have mentioned this season, that when covered, there is a lack of quality stories coming from this sport. Examples have been plenty this season, from TSN's Skate Canada TV coverage which included a marathon (ad naseum) of back to back stories on the return of Scott and Tessa, neglecting other athletes in the process, to a certain reporter from a Canadian newspaper asking a national champion, why she only skates to prostitute music, to another journalist going to Nice and sending update tweets on ...Hanyu and Pooh, it seems our sport is suffering from a lack of imagination. There are so many potential stories that are left untold.

Yesterday, while looking for an update I came across one of very few articles re 4CC, from an Asian newspaper which had a picture of Gracie Gold and a caption stating that she was ready to compete at the 2017 competition...can you say frustrated?

Melissa McCarthy would have a field day, with this type of journalism. If one is to cover, then do it right!

If you're aware of the state of things, then you probably are aware that there are very few reporters (even none perhaps), because of a lack of resources or otherwise, who are covering skating exclusively. If they're not covering the stories you like it's not because they are purposely trying not to it's because they are likely balancing a billion Olympic stories.

And yeah, Rosie DiManno (whom I'm assuming you're referencing with the prostitute comment)? I don't like her either -- in fact I wrote an EXTENSIVELY long email to her once after she did not but slam Shawn Saywer after his great performance at Canadian Nationals.

By the way, I hope that you have taken the time to check out the Canadian Nationals videos and articles posted by Golden Skate. If you show support for those efforts (through views) then the owner can do more of this type of stuff. Two for the Ice also does some great interviews and coverage with North American (read: U.S. AND Canada) pairs and ice teams.

Also, I'm sure if you ask our Japanese and Korean GS users, I'm sure they can point to their favorite news sources, including ones that feature interesting stories on Canadian ladies. Let's face it figure skating is the most popular in Japan, so they're going to put in the most effort in coverage.

The LADIES TECH TEAM:

Referee Robert ROSENBLUTH USA
Tech Controller Beth CRANE CAN
Tech Spec Olga BARANOVA FIN
Asst Tech Spec Jae-Eun CHUNG KOR

So the Tech Controller is Canadian Beth Crane---good news for the Canadian ladies, eh?

Bad news is the Tech Specialist, who is the Russian born Finn who was the caller at the 2014 Olympics. She was a nitpicker for all but the Russian ladies (who of course, aren't here). The ATS is Korean, who won't be of help to anyone except perhaps the Korean ladies.

hey chuck, how many times do we have to remind you that the tech controller only intervenes when the other two disagree? A strict tech panel who is fair all around is not great for a particular nation but great for the sport. If Baranova is the Finnish lady version of Amano, I am thrilled... if she is fair... And I wouldn't have liked to be a Russian born Finn caller at Sochi.... just saying...

I KNOW what the role of the TC is and don't need to be reminded.

But I'm not so sure how "fair" Baranova is after Sochi. She may have an agenda here (this competition after all is the prep for the Worlds leading up to the next Olympics). That could affect Osmond in particular, and the ATS isn't likely to stick up for her.
