Does this event count for ranking points? Since she scored above 200 does she have a shot at the top 24 scores of the season? I would really like to see her on the GP.

No, it doesn't count. This season she's got only events that don't count towards the SB.

That seems to be a trend with the Nastyas. ;) They get their best scores in events that don't count towards season's best.

I have to applaud Nastya for the determination that she has shown these past few years. She has really fought and stuck with skating through out this time. I wasn’t sure if she would be able to compete on the grand prix with the depth of the russian ladies, but she has proven herself and is now in contention for a spot!! I hope that she will be able to break through and get at least one grand prix spot. She deserves it for the resilience that she has shown over the years.

She jumps triple Axels, rides behind wolfhounds, loves evening dresses - a large interview with Anastasiya Gulyakova

Anastasiya Gulyakova arrived in Moscow five years ago from the small town of Revda in the Sverdlovsk Region, and the last two years she has been living in Sankt Peterburg and has been training in the group of Alexey Mishin. She can be called one of the rising stars of the already stellar female Russian team - Anastasiya performs a triple Axel and tried to jump quadruples. All this - with a fairly tall height (slightly less than 170 cm).

This season, the 17-year-old skater, after becoming seventh in the Russian championship, was among the substitutes for the European championship, and then she won the final of the Russian Championships and for the first time in her career joined the reserve team.

Outwardly spectacular, temperamental and purposeful, and in the case of real jumping difficulty, Gulyakova has every chance to compete for the quota for the main starts in the next season. Unless, of course, there is no ice for training and there will be no season, the self-isolation regime in Russia has been going on for more than three weeks, and in the coming days the International Skating Union will make its first decision regarding the autumn part of the competition calendar.

But for now, we hope for the best and introduce you to Anastasiya Gulyakova - a graduate, mother's assistant and beauty.

From this interview you will learn:

- How Mishin's senior group continues training under quarantine
- Gulyakova has already been staged a new program. What will it be like?
- How Anastasiya first tried the triple axel
- Did she have clean exits from her quadruple jumps
- What happens if you combine mature feminine skating with difficult jumps
- How a love for evening dresses and shoes doesn't prevent Nastya from being active and economic

We have successfully staged a new program before the quarantine

- The first question is from the context of the current situation. Self-isolation, quarantine, four walls: what do you do, how do you handle it, it is depressing?

" I'm getting ready for my exams. I train at home, both while engaged in video communication with trainers and independently. There is no depression. It’s difficult, of course, but we are at least somehow training. I live with my parents, and they are very supportive. "

- Video training - how is it? Can you explain the mechanics of the process?

" We use the Zoom app. Our entire senior group goes on air with the coach. She gives assignments, which we carry out. She immediately gives comments, corrects errors. We also work individually for our new programs. "

- Do you already have new programs?

" Before quarantine we managed to stage the free and began to work it out on the floor so that it would not be forgotten. Now we are adding choreography, thinking about the image and other details. "

- Are you ready to name the theme and music from your new free program?

" For now, I'll keep it a secret. But the image is unusual for me, like the program itself. "

- Do you manage to maintain discipline on proper nutrition?

" In principle, I never overeat and observe my weight myself. Parents also help. "

I've never considered the option of quitting figure skating

- Your hometown is Revda in the Sverdlovsk region. Five years ago you moved to Moscow, then to Peterburg. How did you get used to the rhythm of life in a metropolis?

" My mother and me first came to Moscow and we somehow managed. But then a turning point came: it became difficult, and then dad also came to us, and only my older brother and his girlfriend remained in Revda.

Moving from Moscow to Sankt Peterburg turned out to be very quick and orderly. We just arrived by car on May 9th. I quickly got used to everything. I have loved Piter since childhood, and I like it more than Moscow. "

- Before the move, did you have any thoughts to leave the sport? Still, your family had to take a serious step, and your parents completely changed their lives.

" There was never an option to quit with figure skating. I am very grateful to mom and dad for moving with me and continuing to support me. "

- With what set of jumps did you come to Moscow?

" I did only doubles and cascades 2-2, but with a terrible “balalaika”, as they say - I had such a bad crunch. I owned nothing more. "

- Did it take you a lot of time to get rid of the problems with the old crunch and learn all the triples?

" Honestly, I don’t remember well. But I relearned pretty quickly. The crunching got better, after which I first learned the double Axel, and then the triple Axel. Having reached the triple Axel, there were even attempts at the quadruple Salchow and Toeloop.

- You have training experience both in a relatively small city and in both capitals. Is there a difference in the training approach? How would you state the differences?

" The difference is in everything - starting from the number of hours spent in training. Plus, more diverse specialists work with you here. There is additional ice. Conditioning, PE, dancing, choreography, stretching - I have a lot more of all this now.

Of course, in the capital, the training schedule is more tight. The athlete is not allowed to relax, and this is very good. "

- When there were thoughts about changing coaches, were there other options besides Mishin?

" There were no other options, I really wanted to see Alexey Nikolayevich. He raised many generations, he is a very good person. Professor with a capital letter. And I like to train with him. In general, it was the right step. "

- Ilya Klimkin, whom trained you in Moscow, let you go easily?

" Moreover, he himself recommended me going to Mishin, and then the decision was ours. We parted on a good note and are still in touch. "

I am like Tuktamysheva, she even sometimes helps me out

- You are one of the few athletes in the world capable of performing a triple Axel. How did you come to this still rare element for women?

" At some point, Ilya Sergeyevich (Klimkin. - “Match TV”) simply offered to try. At first I jumped on the floor, then a couple more times on a fishing rod, and then on the ice myself. "

- What was the highest efficiency achieved in cleanliness of landings?

" Before Tallinn and the Russian Cup final, the Axel became more stable. I cleanly made 8 or 9 out of 10 attempts. I could even jump it 15 times, and in the cascade it also worked out. "

- And how are the quadruple Toeloops and Salchows? You've resumed their development?

" For the duration of competition season, we've stopped trying, but already before quarantine, I began to slowly work on them. "

- You ever managed having clean exits from quads?

" A couple of times in Moscow, but with the relocation to Sankt Peterburg and the busy competition seasons, I haven't tried quads for a long time. "

- There is an opinion among experts and athletes that any ultra-si jump requires a strong mindset and takes a lot of physical strength. Do you agree?

" As for mindset, I agree, but I don’t know about them taking a lot of strength. It doesn't feel like that to me. "

- How tall are you? Visually, you seem above average for a skater.

- Yes, I'm quite tall - 168.5 cm.

- Senior quadruples - Flip, for example - are there plans?

" I haven’t thought about it yet. "

- Sparring inside the group spurs you on? Nearby, World Champion Yelizaveta Tuktamysheva, has a stable Axel and quadruple attempts.

" Yes, of course. I look up to Lisa. She sometimes even helps me in something, tells me something. "

- Do you prefer one of the famous athletes? Who motivates and delights you?

" Among my favorites are Sasha Stepanova and Vanya Bukin. We trained together at the UOR (School of Olympic Reserve. - “Match TV”), we still communicate well, they inspire me very much. I'll also call Nathan Chen, Carolina Costner and Margarita Mamun.

Stable ultra-si combined with femininity, that will be 'da bomb'

- You spent only one season in juniors, and that is incomplete. Why did you decide not to stay in juniors? Your age allowed you to stay.

" When I was invited to the junior Open Test Skates but they didn't give me any stages of the Grand Prix. So we immediately went to the Russian Cup for Masters. And when they also decidedon international starts according to the Masters level - there was nothing left to do in juniors. "

- You had only one stage of the junior Grand Prix, but which one - Australia. What do you remember from that exotic trip?

" I took us a long time to get there, but I really liked it - I like traveling and flying on airplanes. My sister lives in Sydney and specially flew to Brisbane to meet me. We rented a car and after the competition drove to a Koala Park. Stroking kangaroos, koalas and other animals. In general, any international competition is something special both in terms of organisation and in the ability to communicate with people from different countries. "

- How did you feel after such flights? Jetlag not recovered?

" There were no problems. When I fly to another country, I usually feel good. And I get used to the time difference quickly. "

- There are athletes plus start, there are minus start. What type are you?

" I probably have neither one nor the other. I usually always perform well both in training and in competitions. Me and the coaches worked, dashed along together - I went out and showed it all. "

- I remember you from the Russian Championship last year, I saw you in Krasnoyarsk this season. In my opinion, you have made great progress in what is commonly called meaningfulness, femininity of skating. You have become more convincing in sliding, in choreography, and in conveying the image. Did you just mature or aimed to improve all this in training?

" I think both factors cooperated We began to work a lot on the image, the quality of understanding the program. Many people tell me that over the past two years with Aleksey Nikolayevich I have changed and matured. I notice this too for myself. "

- Agree that if stable ultra-si are added to your femininity, it could be a weapon of mass destruction in competitions?

" Yes, I agree with you. It will be 'da bomb'. This is what I strive for. "

We mowed the grass, fed the fish, looked after the garden, rode behind wolfhounds.

- Are you rather calm and reasonable or explosive, temperamental, emotional?

" I think the second (laughs). I do not like to sit idle, I'm always busy with something. "

- How do you spend your temperamental weekend?

" I am into outdoor activities. Water park, biking, to go somewhere in the woods outside the city, doing some kind of excursions, visiting places. Visited the Hermitage, St. Isaac's. And, of course, a run! I'll never canceled it even on my day off. Even on vacation, I still train, run, jump. "

- When you are not training and not actively relaxing, what else do you like to do?

" I like to draw, embroider, read various novels and adventures. I discovered the theater. In Moscow, I went to the musical “Ghost” when I had a likewise program. In Sankt Peterburg I went to the Mikhailovskiy Theater for the ballet Swan Lake. I really enjoyed it. I heard from someone this ballet is a long and tedious one, but it’s not at all. Hope to repeat this soon.

I watch every new film that comes out first as a trailer, and then I decide whether I will go to the cinema. But time for a movie is usually not enough, preparation for the State Exams greatly affects my schedule. "

- What exams do you need to pass? Before, it seemed you planned to study as a trainer?

" Yes, I will enter Lesgaft Institute of Physical Culture in Sankt Peterburg. Accordingly, I need to pass in Russian, mathematics and biology.

- Let's imagine that you are in a shopping center with many shops. Where do you go first?

" I would first go to the sports store - I bought myself something pretty for classes. Then to the cosmetics store for body and face care. And for dessert - some kind of dress. I love to measure beautiful evening dresses - and shoes, with heels. "

- Your recent photo shoot in a golden diva dress was a hundred percent successful, in my opinion.

" Thank you, only we rented that dress. Unfortunately, I had to return it. "

- As long as the boundaries of quarantine are determined only to the beginning of May, nothing threatens your graduation. Planning on going?

" I'm going. Everything will be beautiful with us - 'Scarlet Sails'. "

- Have you already chosen a dress?

" There are ideas. It will be long. It's colour may be dark blue. "

- I've read that in Revda you had a huge house with a large plot, dogs, fish in a pond. Usually this involves some household responsibilities for all family members. What was your life like, back then?

" We lived in a healthy, fun and friendly manner. The house was always full of people, many friends came over to visit us.

I did the cleaning with my mom. We mowed grass, fed fish, looked after the garden - helped grandparents. In winter, we rode sleds behind dogs - we have three wolfhounds.

The last time I was in Revda was in August 2018. I was invited to the opening of the ice palace. "

- You tell us everything with such inspiration. Are you longing back?

" To be honest, I really miss home and my brother and friends. But in Sankt Peterburg we are not strangers either - we have relatives and historical roots here. "

That was an entertaining interview. She seems well grounded and hard working.

I really enjoyed her skating in the Russian Nationals. She entered as a last minute reserve and seized her chance. She delivered two strngs performance. I thought her Carmen short was excellent, she really captured the mood. I hope she gets a ticket to the GP this season, maybe the host spot in Rostelecom Cup?

Her SP from yesterday:

Beautiful dress! And a really good performance - positive GOE on all her jumps, and level 4s for her spins, even if the step sequence let her down. She was a pleasure to watch skate.

Her FP:

Her spins are so good! Level 4 after level 4. Her jumps were going so well until she had that fall on the 2A, and that fall on the 3Lo was really unfortunate, as it borked her combo. She looked so upset at the end of her skate, but I really thought she did a good job despite the falls.

If she didn't have the falls what would she have scored? Her score seems low to me.

That was really nice and more good music for nastya. I'm a little surprised she didn't score a good bit over 70 with that SP.

The protocols for the free are here: https://fsrussia.ru/results/2021/3etap/eMC__Scores.pdf

Looks like she lost 1.65 points on the fall on the 2A, and somewhere around 6 points from the fall and failed combination on the second 3Lo, which was underrotated as well (I don't know what combination she had planned, exactly, and I don't know what the base value would have been - you'll have to ask the scoring fundis on this board). So she would have had an extra seven points, roughly, from the jumps alone, and no deductions, which would have made her score maybe 126-ish? She also got level 4s on all three of her spins, but no bonuses (I don't understand Russian Cup bonus scoring).

At any rate, there you go, that's my best attempt at guessing what she might have got, had she landed those two jumps. I'm not including GOE in my calculations - I haven't got the foggiest how it is factored. At any rate, she might have been in fourth, ahead of Sofia, but she might still have been in fifth, but again, you're better off asking the people who know how scoring works!

Thanks.

So even if Nastya didn't fall twice she would have scored in the mid-190s tops. Something doesn't seem right about that.

I understand there is a gap from the top TT girls plus Sasha and aliona if they're on their game. What should the gap be like 40 points?

Congratulations to Anastasiia for her bronze at the Rostelecom Cup! I wasn't expecting her to get on the podium, but she gave herself the chance by skating clean, and her consistency was rewarded.
