Add a link http://static.isu.org/media/492836/wc2017-ppe.zip. to the skaters' planned program contents.

If all skate their PPC clean and get their respective GOE and PCS, Javi, Yuzuru, Nathan (6G), Shoma and Patrick could all score over 300 and place 1-5 overall in that order. And none of them could afford a fall in the FS and still land on top of the podium.

The last time these skaters faced off was at GPF. After the short program they were:

1 Yuzuru
2 Patrick
3 Javi
4 Shoma
5 Nathan.

It ended up as:

1 Yuzuru
2 Nathan
3 Shoma
4 Javi
5 Patrick.

Now after the short at Helsinki worlds the rank is:

1 Javi
2 Shoma
3 Patrick
5 Yuzuru
6 Nathan

What would be the final rank after Saturday's free?

Everything is possible for the top 6 still. Even though I would be surprised if Javier doesn't have a podium place. But even he has had meltdowns. It certainly won't be boring!!!

FS will be interesting for me because of these questions:

1) Will Javier deliver again at Worlds now that he finally has actual pressure to win?

2) How will Patrick perform now that he is once again in contention for a Worlds medal? Right now, is a clean Patrick enough for gold?

3) How will Shoma fair up now that he is graduating from international bronzes/silvers and he's so close to Worlds gold?

4) Based on previous competitions, Nathan seems fine with keeping leads, but will he be able to play catch up?

Cue dramatic soundtrack.

I believe these are all new situations for them, or at least new in a big stage. Of course, they already had an 'elusive' pressure going into the event but everything is different when you're out there in the open.

Yuzuru's been there, done that, so not much of a question. Just the usual Yuzuru induced heart-attack. And Boyang still has all chances to medal.

There's 11,72 points between 1st and 6th. :coffee:

The difference between Javier and Yuzuru in Boston SP was 12,04.

He did play catch up in the FS at GPF after falling in the SP.

True, but Worlds is still a bigger stage. And that's his first Worlds after all, so another new situation there.

Hoping that he will do the same.

I'm not even going to bother theorizing who will end up on top. As Pairs just proved, ice is very slippery and the standings can change in an instant. Mere tenths can be the difference between medalling and not, qualifying for the FS and not, qualifying multiple spots and not, etc.

This is the most competitive Worlds in terms of EVERY discipline. Though dance doesn't start until tomorrow. But still. Like the men....I'm not placing any bets on who from the top 3 after the SP is going to medal. In fact I'm not even going to WORRY about it. Because it's so close, the men are ALWAYS unpredictable, lots of quads which could mean lots of splats, at everything in between. Literally, I'm not taking any guesses.

Saturday is going to have a lot of upsets, surprises, outrage by GS'ers saying "The judges scored him too high/low," history, and popcorn-eating moments.

While going over the planned program contents, I noticed that Patrick Chan's list includes: 4T3T, 3A, 4T, 3A3T. If he's repeating 3 different jumps (4T, 3A, and 3T each listed twice), isn't that a Zayak violation? Is that a typo or transcription error? Or is my understanding of the Zayak Rule incorrect?

You are correct. That must be a typo. Instead of 3A3T it's 3A2T2Lo.

Actually Patrick has rearranged his layout to begin with 4T3T, 4S, 3A1/2Lo3S.

He used to do 3A2T combo to avoid Zayaking.

True, but Worlds is still a bigger stage. And that's his first Worlds after all, so another new situation there.

Hoping that he will do the same.

He also had tons of help with Hanyu, Chan, Fernandez all badly bombing their LPs their.

Anyway what I see happening is:

Gold- Fernandez. His to lose at this point. Skating last, pretty big lead, especialy over bigger threats (with all due respect to Uno and Chan) Hanyu and Chen, worlds in Europe and clearly a push for him to win here. If he does his job, and that doesnt even mean perfect neccessarily, he will win, even if everyone else skates light out. He has to falter to not win. As others have said though this is a new scenario for him too, he is usually coming from behind after problems in the short, it might feel strange to be leading after the short, and in a scenario everyone has almost ceded him the gold already. Will he handle that situation?

Silver- Hanyu. I think he will come out fighting and skate great, and if he does that he is 100% ensured the silver medal regardless what Uno, Chan, or Chen do, and will win gold if Fernandez falters He isnt that far behind Uno and Chan considering neither of those guys are capable of a 220 LP as he is.

Bronze- Uno. I think his base value will give him the edge on Chan even if Chan skates well, and he is far enough ahead of Chen and that combined with higher PCS will see him stay above him even if Nathan skates well.. I think he is here to fight and will get a medal, could even be gold if Hanyu and Fernandez dont skate great.

Nathan's ultimate catch-up manoeuvre.

Two quad lutz, two quad flips, 6 quads in total.

Especially since just as he thought he had domesticated the 3A beast that he tried to tame throughout the season, it sprung up like a snake in the ice and bit him in the boots.

Come on Brendan, fire off those three quads, land everything clean, let's see what they'll give you...it's only six points to the top ten...

Yes, but you still gotta do the job.
Especially since a great skate from the rest of top 6, even with less quads, can also get gigantic scores.

Anyway, anything can happen. Good luck to all.

@rockerskating Based on today's practice, Nathan Chen's planned FS layout: 4Lz3T, 4F2T, 4F, 4Lz, 3A2T2Lo, 4S, 4T, 3Lz. He is going for it.
