Watching the top synchro teams gives me so much anxiety.

Is Paradise missing a member? :scratch2:

Ahh.. love how much this means to the skaters. Some are crying coming off the ice, and not in a disappointed way:)

It was! What happened to Mexico, Latvia and Belgium from last year? South Africa and New Zealand were also there a few years back too! Maybe a quota issue?

That really stood out! Wouldn't they have subs? All countries had 2-4 spares with them. It was odd...

Yeah that was weird. Thought 16 skaters was required. So how many can you skip? Probably not more than one. Anyway great skate... though I enjoyed Marigold more.

Going to watch the rest now.

The Swedish teams usually do better. Wonder if the terrible attack in Stockholm affected them. Most people in Sweden have relatives/friends in the capital city.

Lost souls

I read today that you can leave out exactly one skater if that skater is injured during practice at the event. They're lucky it was just the one. Apparently they will have to change their FS choreo a bit now to accommodate.

I thought the Finnish team had the edge with that fab Spanish number!

I know next to nothing about synchronized skating, but I did watch the SP highlights on CBC television, and Team Marigold IceUnity's bullfighter-themed routine was AWESOME!!!

SarahSynchro where are you? 4ever?

Hello peese! :party2: Thanks for thinking of me! ;) Trust me, I was livestreamimg both the short and free events in their full entirety for the past two days, however, I completely forgot that I could have been in here at GS, posting as I watched! One of my good friends/synchro teammate/coach of our synchro organization's Beginner team and I traditionally livestream the event together, and if we aren't physically hanging out in the same place to watch, we text our commentary and opinions back and forth. We're geeks like that. ;)

Nexxice' free program tonight was absolutely stunning! Despite the small bobble, I was blown away by the beauty of these skaters and the theme they are trying to portray. They took a risk this year, having one skater play the role of a widow in a dress that's different from the other 15 skaters, and I'd say it definitely paid off. Thankfully I had my box of tissues ready before they skated, because I was bawling like a baby about a minute before they hit their final pose. So well deserved! Many of these girls are new to the NEXXICE organization - only a handful of the veteran skaters have remained on the team since their world championship win in 2015, so they had a lot of new faces, alongside several junior team skaters who moved up. The fact that they could pull off a world bronze medal at a time for the organization that is usually considering a rebuilding period is simply amazing!

I'm sad for Les Supremes, but 8th overall is nothing to snuff at.

I'm a proud Canadian tonight!

As for Paradise - AKA Team Russia - winning the championship for the second year in a row, I don't think that was right. I do realize that issues can and will happen throughout the season, and the ISU will make an exception in extenuating circumstances to allow a team to skate with less than the required 16 skaters. HOWEVER, I feel there should have been a deduction for this reflected in the TES, as there are several required pair elements this season, and to get full credit when one skater has to do the element on her own isn't fair to the other teams. I apologize if this seems harsh, I am not a hater of Paradise and strongly believe they very well deserved the championship last season, however, this is not sitting well with me.

I am wondering if Skate Canada, the USFSA, and the Finnish fed will file a grievance about this with the ISU. It would be interesting to see how that would go down.

Finland 1 - AKA Marigold IceUnity - had the best skate of the night in my opinion; they lost the championship by only 0.12 points! You could see the skaters and coaches were absolutely devastated when the marks came up and it said second place, you could tell they thought they had it in the bag. :(

Regarding USA 1, The Haydenettes, I reaaaally disliked their Prince free program. I think Tessa and Scott's epic short dance of this season is the de facto #1 Prince program in figure skating. (Sorry, Yuzu fans.)

Holy sh*t. Ok, so I've never watched world synchro in my life (although I've been on synchro teams in the past). I was so impressed with the lifts and the complexity of these programs. It was heartbreaking how close the top team from Finland came to winning. I was not a fan of the Prince program though. It looked sloppy to me.
