I feel horrible for Lubov most of all. Dylan atleast got to experience an Olympics and have a great experience, winning a team medal and having a very strong individual skate and finish. Lubov never got to experience an Olympics if this is it for her, and she & Dylan were the ones to preserve 3 spots for Canada in pairs with Duhamel & Radford injured at those worlds, even finishing as top Canadians over Duhamel & Radford. What a nightmare season for them.

I get the impression she is ready for new things in her life though, and excited about skating some shows with Dylan too.

Congrats to Joseph Phan on going from 14th place to 4th and winning a small bronze medal in the free skate! His placement gives Canada the max number of JGP spots for Junior men next season! Unbelievable.

Thoughts on him going senior? Last year he wasn't sent to get senior minimums but he did win Challenge. There's been very few skaters that benefited from being held back, I really think he should move up and start prepping himself for this upcoming quad.

Yeah. Obviously when you're in fourteenth spot after the short program there's no real expectation of being on the podium, but boy must he wish he'd gotten just a bit more GOE out of those opening jumps. He was less than a point off of third place. But a remarkable clutch performance.

Lajoie and Lagha, on the other hand, totally got screwed over.

Having full JGP spots for the men is really great. Even if Joseph stays in juniors, there will be plenty of spots. Let's say two for Joseph, Conrad and Stephen for sure, which would leave eight spots open still. If Joseph does stay in juniors, I hope both he and Conrad get a Challenger assignment or two.

Okay, but they are Canadian after all, who amongst them will complain, even if they skated better than some podium finishers, what can they say but,...'sorry' :noshake:

Shame, and yet another reason not to follow international junior skating.

Zach gave a pretty knowing 👏 at the results.

It reminded me of Moir tbh. It was great.

+3 GOE for team spirit :)

Looking at junior competitors who could use some JGP spots I'd say the following would be up for consideration if not granted a spot outright. If they don't get a JGP they could still be in consideration for a spot at ACI or other international. I'll put a * for those who may move up to senior instead, and a ? for those who would likely need good summer results to get an assignment.

Men
Joseph Phan*
Conrad Orzel*
Eric Liu
Iliya Kovler
Corey Circelli
Stephen Gogolev
Beres Clements
Matthew Markell
Alec Guinzbourg
Bruce Waddell? (likely will get an ice dance spot instead)
Jack Dushenski?
Brian Le?
Dawson Nodwell?
Max Denk?

Ladies
Aurora Cotop*
Olivia Gran
Alison Schumacher
Victoria Bocknek
Emma Bulawka?
Emily Bausback?
Amelia Orzel?
Daria Carr?

Pairs
Brooke McIntosh / Brandon Toste
Olivia Boys-Eddy / Mackenzie Boys-Eddy
Gabrielle Levesque / Pier-Alexandre Hudon
Gabriella Marvaldi / Daniel Villeneuve
Marine Pouliot / Alexandre Simard
Camille Perreault / Bryan Pierro
Sophia O’Brien-Doerksen / Josh Venema?
Patricia Andrew / Paxton Knott (if Patricia's birthday comes before July 1)

Ice Dance
Marjorie Lajoie / Zachary Lagha*
Olivia McIsaac / Elliott Graham
Ellie Fisher / Simon-Pierre Malette-Paquette
Natalie D’Alessandro / Bruce Waddell
Nadiia Bashynska / Peter Beaumont
Miku Makita / Tyler Gunara
Nina Mizuki / Veniamins Volskis?
Katerina Kasatkin / Corey Circelli?
+ several new teams forming from the ashes of all the split teams

Skate Canada needs to start seriously monitoring (better) in the spring and summer to see who should get two spots. A few teams who got two spots last season did not perform well at Nationals and ended up splitting or missing out on a trip to Junior Worlds.

I agree with the article the coaches deserve more credit. The Ravi Walia Rink to be opened by a CF-18 flyover is long overdue!

Wish I could make this. Instead going to try to incorporate a 3-day urban exploring trip around Vancouver & Victoria when Stars On Ice is there next year.

This probably belongs in next season's thread (we need to finish this season first :cool14:) but we have a new junior ice dance team: Irina Galiyanova / Grayson Lochhead. Both at Scarboro FSC.

The more the merrier.

Looking back over this season, I do wonder if Skate Canada shouldn't have sent Julianne & Charlie (and heck, throw in Kirsten & Michael) to Four Continents in addition to the Olympics. Neither were medal prospects in the latter, and they weren't even being used for the team event, but they would have easily won medals at the pairs event at Four Continents, which would have helped burnish their reputations for the next four years.

I wondered if they'd pair up when both their partnerships ended, since they train together.

And their ex-partners are dating. ;)

Lee Royer and Alicia Fabbri need to pair up and then I can be content about summer competitions. :)
