Thanks for starting the thread. I was pretty impressed by his improved consistency last season, particularly his performance at the first jgp. Hope he can sneak on the olympic team this season.

I wanted to create a Fan Fest thread for Kazuki in anticipation of his Senior debut season. Upon seeing him perform in his first JGP (Riga 2015) I was impressed by his interesting music choices and performance style, the way he aggressively attacked his elements and fought through his troubled jumps. IMO, his greatest strength as a skater is his tenacity, and I believe his skating will continue to improve because of this.

I apologize for the crude OP. I'm just not skilled enough to insert those nifty tables to keep all the info organized and concise. Any feedback, assistance with extra information and links that I'm missing will be greatly appreciated. :thank:

It appears Kazuki's first competition of this season will be the Gensan Summer Cup. This local tournament will be held on August 10-13, at the Shiga Prefectural Ice Arena. The Senior Men's SP is scheduled for Friday Aug. 11, from 2:55pm-3:35pm JST, the FS for Saturday Aug. 12, from 2:35pm-3:30pm JST. As is often the case with local competitions in Japan, the Senior Men's group is quite small with only seven entries in this event.
Time schedule (Japanese)
Entries (Japanese)

Kazuki won the Junior Men's division of the Gensan Summer Cup 2016.

Looking forward to live reports from the arena regarding his SP music, costumes and program layouts.
Good Luck to him on his first competition of the 2017-2018 season. :cheer:

Congratulations to Kazuki for his 1st place finish in the Senior Mens division at Gensan Summer Cup!:hap10:

The competition debut of his new SP (Zigeunerweisen) was a bit rough with an invalid jump (popped 4S to 2S) and a Level 1 camel spin (that darn SP camel spin is back to haunt me! :p).
https://headlines.yahoo.co.jp/hl?a=20170811-01870632-nksports-spo
However, according to this fan report https://twitter.com/Matsu10_4/status/895899402119684096 he did execute a beautiful 3A and a bonus half 3F-3T(2ft) scoring 61.99 for his SP.

Though both of Kazuki's FS 4S attempts (one obviously a missed combo) were messy, he still managed 140.48, for a total score of 202.27.
Judging by this report https://twitter.com/Matsu10_4/status/896254425693421569 his planned FS jump layout is looking to be 4S-2T?, 4S, 3A-3T, 3A-2T-2Lo, 3Lo, 3S, 3Lz, 3F.
He only managed a 3A-2T (for his second 3A combo) during his FS but jumped a nice 3A-2T-2Lo during the 6 minute warm-up. https://twitter.com/Matsu10_4/status/896241188549738496

Some fun photos of Kazuki (with his big box of beef ) and medalists Koshin Yamada (2nd) and Taichi Honda (3rd) with Gensan mascot, "Genchan".

I love Zigeunerweisen, that was also a music I liked for han yan when he skated to it back in juniors. Looking forward to his senior debut, praying for his consistency!

Congratulations to Kazuki on his new PBs (SP 69.88, FS 155.42, Total 225.30) earned at US International FS Classic! He placed 8 in the SP, 5th in the FS and an impressive 5th overall.

Link to the Men's SP and FS results page (judges scores included) at icenetwork site: http://www.usfigureskating.org/leaderboard/results/2017/26189/results.html

First, I just have to say that I love both of his programs this season! :luv17: EDIT: (though his WSS music cuts are...a lot~)

Though the jumps didn't go perfectly as planned, Kazuki still managed to rotate and stand up on his SP 4S. He also remained focused and fought through the FS, improvising three jump combinations to keep his BV as high as possible.
But as usual, it was his delivery of the choreography that moved me the most. I was so happy to see his musicality and performance ability being praised by others as well.
That SP FCSp tho...:drama:

Overall, I feel this was a successful competition for him and a strong start to his season. Hoping he continues to build on the momentum set by this event.

SP: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rIQtjipmMIk&t=301s (Thank you to the uploader for both videos!)
Still questioning the decision to replace the planned/usual 3F-3T with a 3Lz-3T . Since last season, 3Lz in combination was only executed in case of emergencies due to issues with his Lutz edge.
Glad for the updated costume. I find this one to be much more flattering on him than the one he wore at Summer Cup.

FS: http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x60xh2s
Loving the transition (3 turns?) into 3Lo and Russian Split jump? into 3F (here an emergency 3F-2T). The latter was executed smoother at Summer Cup.

Kazuki was very enjoyable. And the Salt Lake City altitude makes it a tough place for a season opener! He held up well though. I haven't seen him in a while. Goodness, he is all legs! Love his musicality. I want to watch his programs again as soon as I have time!

With him looking so winded at the end of the SP, I was concerned about his stamina going into his fast paced FS. Relieved he was able to execute most of his elements decently while keeping his energy up throughout the program .

His "legginess" is just an illusion created by his costuming+skates. Kazuki and Shoma are virtually the same height with (what looks to me) similar leg to body ratio. Kazuki is just more slender in build, similar to Tatsuki Machida.

Very surprised he and Sho are the same height. Looks like he is higher waisted, but maybe it does have to do with the costume. Congratulations to him for a very good senior debut.

Just now caught up with his US classic skates...I too am loving the music choices and programs. Very nice start to the season- his score is higher than Mura, Murakami, and Tanaka's after the challengers. He's posing a serious challenge for the 3rd spot.

Unfortunately, he started this competition with another rough SP, doubling his 4S and stepping out on both the 3A and 3T of his 3F-3T. Reports from the arena mentioned that he didn't seem like himself during a troubled 6 minute warm-up. He scored 63.10 and was in 2nd after the SP.

Luckily, his FS went a bit better.
After jumping multiple 4S and 4S-2T during warm-up, Kazuki then managed to open his program with his first successful 4S-2T landed in competition. :yes2:
Regrettably, he popped the following 4S attempt but IMO the quad combo was a step in the right direction. He placed 1st in the FS with a TSS of 146.96 and 1st overall with 210.06.

Before West Japan Sectionals happening next month, Kazuki will be participating in the West Japan Student Championships happening this weekend.
Good Luck to him!

So much excitement with the sudden, last minute announcement of Kazuki filling in for Daisuke Murakami at NHK Trophy (Get better quickly, Dice!).
This situation reminds me of Junior Worlds 2016 when Kazuki was asked to replace injured Sota , only two days before leaving for Hungary. (Kazuki talks about this during his appearance on Kenji no Heya)
Hopefully, he's not too tired from West Japan Sectional last weekend where he scored SP 72.10, FS 156.33, Total 228.43 and placed 2nd to Ryuju Hino.

As I've already mentioned, Kazuki was recently a guest on Kenji Miyamoto's program Kenjiの部屋 (Kenji no Heya=Kenji's Room). He was featured in three episodes, originally aired on October 17th, 24th and 31st.
Unfortunately, I am unable to find links to video however, for anyone who is interested and able to read Japanese (or care to struggle with Google Translate=me) majority of the questions and answers from each episode have been transcribed to the JSPORTS site.

I wanted to share a part from episode 1 that stuck with me. When Kazuki was asked which overseas skaters he admires (loose translation), he quickly answered Patrick Chan. He then mentioned that he also liked American skaters. If I remember correctly, Kenji and I believe a staff member started throwing out names like Nathan and Adam Rippon to which Kazuki politely agreed. But when Jason Brown's name came up Kazuki got super excited saying how he really liked Jason and Joshua Farris. To think that he almost had a chance to compete with Patrick, Joshua and Jason at NHK.

It seems that Akio Sasaki has been added to Kazuki's ISU bio as a coach (though his name appears to be misspelled).

I started reading articles about and watching videos of Sasaki's performances after learning he used to be coached and choreographed by Misao Sato.
Fans are curious to see if Coach Sasaki will join Kazuki and Coach Hiraike in the Kiss & Cry.

Fingers and toes crossed for Kazuki to deliver two strong and impressive performances at NHK Trophy. :cheer:
But most of all I hope he has an enjoyable competition and is left with positive memories of his Grand Prix debut.

Wow, such a performance today and no ovations here? /JK ;) / Well, after seeing Kazuki's SP, I am a new fan! I've never seen him before, but his program was the highlight of today's Men's event for me, along with Sergei's. So much vivacity and musicality and energy; I loved it, the step and choreo sequences in particular (and the ending!). Big congrats on making the top 6. Hopefully this is just the beginning for him on the biggest stage! I hope he keeps this SP next season as well, it's really good and sways the crowd.
And congrats to Kazuki on his western sectionals silver! And to Ryuju on gold, my other big favorite. I may be the only one, but Tomono actually reminds me of Hino a bit with his impish smile.

Congrats on a beautiful LP! It wasn't perfect, but I was very impressed by how he expressed his music, and the step sequence in particular. Plus, he fought for it. All in all, I think he made quite a statement for himself and made many notice him for the first time. Go, Kazuki, good luck in your future competitions! I hope to see him in them more often from now on. :]

A belated congratulations to Kazuki on a solid GP debut at NHK Trophy and his new PBs!
I was so excited to see him finally achieve a 70+ (almost 80!) SP score in an ISU recognized competition.
I know he's disappointed about the 4S attempts at the beginning of his FS but should really be proud of the way he managed to recover and perform the rest of his program.
Loved the new costumes!
