ohhhhh it's coming along nicely!
I'm hoping we will get to see it at JNats!

May be he is aiming to get ready at that time. I just hope he doesn't rush things and risk himself.

I saw this video cut for Kazuki from the Japanese team training camp, seems he created a solo floor dance there :luv17:

Also here is a video of Kazuki's skating debut on 2007, he was a dancing beast and so energetic on ice since he was just 9 years old . This is from the "Friends +" episode that I mentioned before

I love this video of the Sabre dance! Kazuki hasn't changed a thing

About the 4T, I don't think he'd risk himself. He has spoken before about the need to think about the quality of the jumps before adding it to the program, especially now with the new GOE rules. He sounds like he's determined to bring in the 4T, but not exactly rushing!

I'm just happy that the quality of his 4T seems to be getting better, if you compare it to the video from a couple of months ago, yesterday's jump has better axis and better landing. Although he does pre-rotate it, but then his 4S also has this problem...

Yah, specially with the rules changes, he do realize he needs to work on his quality of the execution of the elements and also PCs.

Happy to know that his 4T improved from the first look we got on it. I have seen videos and heated debates about the jumps prerotation issue so I do hope he can get to fix that at some point. I couldn't tell any of this myself so thanks a lot for the technical details, I do appreciate your input.

Kazuki skated his SP 'New Cinema Paradiso' today at the Gensan Summer Cup.

He made a few mistakes, including 2-foot landing his 4S, but still finished way ahead in first with a score of 71.66 (which is about 10 points less than his PB).
Reports said he was a bit nervous and didn't perform the program as well as he had done in the ice shows. He also said he was 'foolish' for his mistake on the Salchow.

Oh, well. Tomorrow is another day, Kazuki! Ganbatte! ;)

Seems he had trouble with the combo jump as well. But I read some mentioning his expressions and flow are getting better than his ICE shows performance and that his 3A was beautiful

The outline for the SP today was (4S2ft 3Fot2Tot CSSp 3Ax FCSp StSq CCoSp). Sorry but I wonder what is OT stands for?

Wish him luck in tomorrow's FS

OT stands for 'overturn', so the landing of the jump is not clean.

Thanks a lot!!

Still trying to get my head around all the abbreviations and technical details I read. This sport is so beautiful but so detailed and its technicalities are hard to understand but hopefully I get better at that with time ;)

Thanks, I wasn't sure either. Would you mind explaining a bit more what it means - is it the free leg being too low? Lack of balance? Or just dodgy landing in general?

I only looked it up to find out the corresponding term...and I get that it's used by twitters such as (Japanese?) FS fans who are watching the competition live and reporting live results on twitter. I'd assume it's more of the latter case that there's a lack of balance when landing a jump and hence an over turn but not 100% sure about that.

A clean jump should land on a clean outside edge and the skater should be able to hold that edge in a controlled manner. Overturn happens when the skater can't hold the landing (too much power, messed up timing, bad landing position or even crappy ice) and "spins out" of the landing position trying to regain balance. If the landing edge is too poor to save even with an overturn, the skaters often do a "step out", or SO, so that's another abbreviation you're likely to see in fans' reports.

Here's an example of a turnout (between the 4S and 2T): https://youtu.be/lHp6ieWXssI?t=21
And another one on a solo jump: https://youtu.be/Y2ueNYzZhAQ?t=40

Thank you very much! I see what you mean now.

At least he did better than he did last year, when he popped his Salchow and scored about 10 points lower than today. Onwards and upwards! ;)

Congrats to Kazuki for winning the Gensan Summer Cup for the 3rd year in a row! Go enjoy that beef, Kazuki!

Unfortunately his jumps didn't go as expected again (including his brand new 4T!), and "Riverdance" earned him 118.90 points. Here's his layout: https://twitter.com/Matsu10_4/status/1028839735307816961?s=19

He reported stamina issues as well - sounds like both programs are quite challenging for him.

Well, at least now he had a taste of how his programs fare in a competitive environment and he has a better idea on what to work on.

You can do it, Kazuki!

Good job, Kazuki! It's impressive he tackles such a layout in such a fast-paced piece. Wow. Hopefully it grows better and better with each new performance. I think fast FPs can be extremely challenging when it comes to stamina - a couple of seasons back, fast Bollywood music proved a huge obstacle for Ilinykh/Zhiganshin of Russia when it was chosen as FD, even Charlie White commented it can be a killer. But I digress. *If* several comps go by and it's still a challenge for Kazuki to nail both the pace and the quads, I hope Kazuki's team adjust the jump content accordingly and maybe take out one quad. No need to push it.

Now, don't kill me with a broomstick but I don't like the costume. :p I feel it's way too simple and the shirt should be a bit looser. As it is, add a tacky sewn-on flower or belt, and it could be something he's taken out of Ryuju's closet... just no. New shirt please: more interesting (add gold stuff, he'd look good with gold or yellow lace!) and not so sombre. It washes him out.

OT, but the '4S2ft' note left me blinking for an instant, wondering what mysterious double jump he'd added to the quad.

Congrats to Kazuki for winning the Gensan Summer Cup!! Although the numbers aren't satisfying but hopefully he can work it out with the jumps and things gets better from here on.

Here are translations of a short interview with him after the competition

The challenge is so big this season for this young man. Not only he is challenging himself with the programs, adding new quad and trying a new type of quad but also with handling the new rules and mental pressure due to the attention and expectations from him. I pray he could have a good season with no injuries and he can achieve what he wants and overcome those challenges to prove himself

May be he will have another costume in future competitions. If I remember correctly, he did change his SP costume last season.

LOL I don't mind the costume. I'd rather keep it simple than over-the-top. Also, I've seen reports on Twitter saying that the effect of the costume when he moves is pretty, so I will reserve judgement until I see a video.

I think Kazuki's results at the Gensan Summer Cup really show how difficult his programs are for him. 'Cinema Paradiso' requires a depth of emotion he has never shown before, while 'Riverdance' seems to require a huge amount of strength and stamina.

There is no doubt he's being really ambitious and aiming for the top. I'm just worried because he said he will do a lot of run-throughs and those put a lot of strain on the body. Praying he doesn't overdo it!

Costume-wise, I'd prefer the happy medium. ;) I don't think I've ever seen Kazuki in over-the-top monstrosities some other guys on TJ like to wear, so I don't have any fear in that aspect. The white costume a couple of seasons back was weird, though. But he's tiny, he needs to highlight his presence visually. Let's wait and see but right now I feel they could have done better.

I hope the Fed monitor them all closely now to prevent stress fractures. Fortunately, he might have stopped growing by now so the bones could be stable. But then, Satoko is tiny too, and couldn't avoid one... Fingers crossed for Kazuki, I hope they find the right balance between rest and training as this season is going to be his most important one so far.

I am hoping he said it in the heat of the moment. Fingers crossed his team will take care of him and won't let him do anything crazy.
I've seen he's got new boots as well, hopefully they'll break in nicely before the Lombardia Trophy...

Yah, as much as I love his enthusiasm, competitive and ambitious attitude towards his skating now but I hope he is not pushing himself so hard beyond his limits. I think it is important to take things step by step rather than jump all in one go since that might have the total opposite effect of what he wants. Hopefully his team advice him well.

Don't know if he changed his blades too or they are the same type as his old one but hopefully it helps him with his jumps and skating.

Seems that Kazuki is in LA having some training with Misha and they are also having some fun time at the millennium dance complex based on their IG stories
