I've noticed that the archived livestream for the JGP Riga Men SP is at 59 frames per second (most of the videos on that channel are at 29 fps), so I've isolated Jo's performance for those of you who like the smoother graphics from a higher frame rate.

2019 Joseph Phan JGP Riga SP (1080p, 59 fps): https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x7kao3l

If the video is not displaying in the correct format, go to the upper right hand corner and select "1080p60".

At the JGP Gdansk, I assume that Joseph is still plagued by either his lingering knee pain and/or the other issue his mother informed me about, but at least he fought for the rest of the program after the fall on the 3A: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j7xUVIfea88

I really like this tweet which appeared after his short :) : https://twitter.com/Reading8Rainbow/status/1174780743165206528

Joseph Phan is something special! Say what you want but I think he has major IT factor. He truly feels this short program and it is stunning!

I forgot to share this one which was posted shortly after his JGP Riga LP: https://twitter.com/FlutzesCast/status/1170397007443353600

Joseph Phan is skating more and more like Patrick Chan every season. He's grown into such a mature performer

Today, Joseph is much closer to the "Emperor" that I know that he's capable of being and skated by FAR his best LP this season  , earning a new PB FS score: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vNVFGbhtzLk

I've made the following available at 59 frames per second:

2019 Joseph Phan JGP Gdansk SP (1080p, 59 fps): https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x7lh8kb

Ted Barton hasn't uploaded the full JGP Gdansk Men Free Skate yet, and even if he does, it's not guaranteed to be in 59 fps, but if it is, then of course I'll post Jo's LP at the higher frame rate.

As promised...

There's room for improvement, of course, but Jo did well enough for me to officially bestow on him the title/nickname Emperor. Hopefully he'll be even more majestic at his next competition.

I don't know the original source for this set of two gorgeous photos of Jo, but yowza, he's a dreamboat! :luv17: https://www.instagram.com/p/B2rpIAQBVnF/

The only larger versions I could find have ugly watermarks on them :frown: (and it's especially bad for the second image because his chin is completely covered):

No JGP medal this season, but honestly, what's more important to me is that he's satisfied with what he was able to deliver on competition ice, and for the first time this season, he's cheerfully grinning  about his free skate.

Joseph missed the combo :sad21: at the Warsaw Cup, so he didn't earn the senior TES SP minimum for Worlds, but he has enough for 4CC. On a positive note, he was awarded the highest PCS in this segment. He's only 1.33 points away from 3rd place, so if he skates well tomorrow, a medal is within reach.

Joseph finished 5th over-all at the Warsaw Cup, and he now has the senior TES LP minimum for 4CC, but not for Worlds. Oh well, with only 1 spot for the latter, it's highly unlikely he'll become the national champion in January. If he finishes in the Top 3 at the Canadian Championships (or 4th if Stephen Gogolev is on the podium), then he can look forward to competing at 4CC.

This is the first time we've seen the senior-level version of his "Emperor Concerto" free skate (I've cut this video from the archived livestream, so it's of better quality than the screen recording on YouTube): https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x7o3e18

I'm amused that he used the maple leaf icon because I'm Canadian, and I don't eat ice cream during the autumn (but maybe I'm unusual among Canucks?). Jo looks happy in both snapshots, so at least he wasn't feeling low during his entire stay in Warsaw.

Jo won a surprise bronze medal at the Challenge, leaping from 11th in the SP to 2nd in the LP  , and he had the highest TES in this segment with all Level 4s! :gclap: (1080p): https://streamable.com/4k3gx

I've copied and pasted my thoughts on Jo from the Canadian Nationals thread, as not everyone can access it.

My love for Joseph Phan's skating has grown by leaps and bounds. Sure, there were a few mistakes in the LP, but his mother and I are very proud of him for including a 4S for the first time in a competitive program. I had a strong feeling at the Quebec Summer Championships that he would become my second-favourite skater sometime this season, and his performances at Nationals have officially cemented his new position in my fandom heart (so I guess my new nickname for him should be "Emperor-in-waiting" ;) ). I hope Junior Worlds will be the peak of his season; I suspect it will be the last time he'll compete as a junior, and I would like for that chapter of his career to end on a high note.

In their Inside Edge videos, Ted Barton, Kaetlyn Osmond and Elladj Baldé usually focus on the Top 3 in each segment, but they included Joseph in their discussion (this is their talk about his SP https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x7qv3e1 and their talk about his LP https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x7qv3wy ) because they see his great potential, just as I do. I told Jo (or more like his mother told him on my behalf) that I firmly believe he'll be in the mix for a podium finish at Nationals as early as next year, and it's nice to learn that Ted, Kaetlyn and Elladj also agree. :agree:

In case there might be someone here who plans to send fan mail to Joseph one day, it may be better to send it to the Toronto Cricket Club rather than to Skate Canada as I did. I had assumed that the Christmas card I had sent to him got lost in the mail (it wouldn't be the first time I've lost an item through Canada Post). However, his mother just found out today, more than a month after Christmas, that Skate Canada had forwarded my card to Laval (where he used to live) instead of Toronto, which is why Jo hadn't received it. He moved to Toronto about a year and half ago, and I can't believe SC hasn't updated his address yet!
:curse:
