Cool thread. Thank you for starting it.

Not much information, basically I copied the ISU infomation :).

You might find this page useful for finding out more info:

http://www.rinkresults.com/country?country=MEX

Click the "skaters" button, and you will find a list of skaters that have competed in the last 12 months (if you want earlier skaters as well, the full list is on this page. Mexico is at the bottom of the first column, and the top of the second column). Clicking the name takes you to the skater's competitive history, from where you can click on individual scores to take you to protocols and videos!

Last season, there was a discussion about Andrea Montesinos in the Junior Worlds Ladies SP thread. And we didn't manage to work out an answer. So, I will bring it up again here.

Is Andrea related to the Cantú sisters, Ana Cecilia (ISU Bio; Rink Results Bio; Wikipedia) and Michele (ISU Bio; Rink Results Bio; Wikipedia), who competed for Mexico in the noughties?

They are obviously not sisters, because of the different position of Cantú (for those unfamiliar with Spanish surnames, the order is father's surname followed by mother's surname).

Andrea MONTESINOS (Dad) CANTÚ (Mum)

Ana Cecilia CANTÚ (Dad) FÉLIX (Mum)

So, could Andrea be a cousin of the sisters? Or a niece?

And before somebody suggests it, Andrea definitely isn't a daughter. Ana was competing in Junior Ladies at the Pokal der Blauen Schwerter the week Andrea was born. And Michele was competing in Novice Ladies at the Triglav Trophy 6 months later.

Yes, thank you for making the thread.

I was wondering earlier if there was one, and loo and behold: Chapis was kind enough to fulfil my wish:agree:
I love how more and more countries that you don't usually associate with ice are fielding good competitors.

In her LP, Andrea Montsesinos Cantu skated to the same music as Laurine Lecavalier did in her SP last season. I love that piece, so was glad to hear it again.

I really liked Donovan Carrillo's SP as well:

Hope to see it skated cleanly next time.

Thank you so much for the information. I will update later.
About the Cantú sisters and Andrea, I thought the same last season, they are from the same city, I stalked their personal facebook : and I do not think they are related, but I am not 100% sure .

There is also Sofia Del Rio, here is the link to her ISU bio:

http://www.isuresults.com/bios/isufs00054658.htm

I saw her SP at the Philly International Summer Comp a few weeks ago. It was memorable to me, because she came out in black lipstick, a black unitard and a really tight ponytail, and I said to myself, she looks just like Alexa Scimeca in her SP a couple years, ago, this better be Metallica, and it was!

Of course I also saw both of Donovan's programs there (thanks to @Stitch Monkey for telling me to pay attention to him) and he just captures the audience. I love performers, and he is one:agree:

Last fall, I was at ACI. I remember there was a Mexican skater there. He doesn't have all his triples but he was a very fun skater to watch with some great spin positions.

There is a current Mexican dance team. They withdrew from JGP Riga, but are also scheduled for JGP Croatia:

Megumi TSUTSUMI / Devin DICKEY
http://www.isuresults.com/bios/isufs00103414.htm

thank you, I did not know them. I just could find this short videos https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KaxxxtAAWIA
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CKh9kspRwb4

Someone know what happened with the Maekawa siblings? , I really liked them, they were training with Marina. I remembered them because of C/L chosing La vita e bella https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=StpRSJwqkW0

Natalia Paulin just competed in Riga https://youtu.be/LjcbD8HyLOI?t=17 score 32.61, place 29. she is lovely. 15 yo. It seems that she is from San Pedro city, Nuevo León, Méx, same like Andrea and the Cantú sisters, and she trains mostly in that city. Michelle Cantú is one of her coaches, she was sitting with her in the K&C :luv17:.

Natalia´s dress is beautiful , after watch some dresses in the latin short dances, I wish some girls cough Ekaterina B. :(, Christina C., Eteri´s daugther cough would have a dress like Natalia´s

I'm very excited for Megumi and Devin!! (and I say that as a fan in addition to an acquaintance) I really liked their programs at JGP Croatia, and think that they should have placed higher. But as the omniscient Ted says, they're a new team and it will come with experience

That was my first impulse, but then I realized they're from Monterrey. The Cantú last name is quite common there, you lift a stone and find 3 of them

Andrea improved her season best (44.26), but not enough to move to the second stage

Andrea, keeps improving, I'm sure we'll see her in competition next season too :cheer:

PS: Donovan goes first in the FS tomorrow :reye:
