I saw this interview as well--apparently Dasha almost lost her shoes in the pile of toys! Still, it would've been HILARIOUS if they had gotten stuck and had to wait for some people to come and pull them out. I feel like that is exactly the kind of thing that would happen to Aliona though!

**

Some other stuff:

1) I forgot to mention it yesterday, but Aliona finally won the PCS battle in the FS, and she was the ONLY skater to score above 70 in PCS!
It's what she deserves! :yes2:

2) Selfie with Yuzu:
https://www.instagram.com/p/B51HKSKp5To/
(If you can't tell, Aliona is closest to the camera, with the grey sweater with the yellow stripe on the arm.)

3) Organizing a jump photo with Nathan:
https://www.instagram.com/p/B50r2OjJewx/ :luv17:

4) New video interview (translation is in the comments):
https://www.instagram.com/p/B50dyLiov1G/

I'm glad to hear that Aliona knows that she needs to learn a quad. She won this time around because Sasha and Anna made mistakes (like they did at JGPF last year), but Aliona can't always rely on others making mistakes. If she wants to keep winning, she will have to increase her technical content.

From what I could tell of the auto-translated Russian comments on the Channel 1 FS video, TAT suggested that Aliona should be able to learn how to do a quad flip because she gets so much height on her 3F. I still am a bit worried that trying a 4F will mess up her gorgeous 3F, but I also feel like her 3S is not that high, so a 4S might be hard. I don't know... Realistically speaking, though, if she hasn't been actively working on a quad already, she probably won't have an opportunity to do so until after Worlds, or possibly between Euros and Worlds (of course, assuming she makes those teams). Personally, I think it might be better to stabilize her existing content and aim to do it completely clean this year and work on a quad over the summer...

I'm eagerly awaiting banquet photos but haven't seen any yet!

Well... I was asking myself if youtube subtitles got it right when tarasova was speaking ... she said the 3F easily could be turn in 4 F that had to much heigh and space ... well if you see that the other 2 of the 3A have a 4F ... I think at this stage kostornaia probably is training one or have one ... but I think Eteri is only going to put that on a program if she nails it 99% of the time ... because she could win most of time without one ...

This is twisting Batsuchan's words. It was not said for the purpose of slandering Aliona's victory. It's not about looking into the past abut about looking into the future and considering strategy in long perspective. Which is what Aliona herself does.

Hello, I'm sorry if my reply offended anyone especially Batsu-chan. I, of course, know Batsu-chan is probably a bigger fan of Aliona than I will ever be and I know they will never mean harm. I was coming from an athlete perspective and psychology, that it was something that would made me upset, instead of accusing anyone of slander. I hope Aliona can maintain having optimistic mindset and always giving herself sense of reward, knowing what works for her in the long term, because I'm sure everyone would want her to have longevity in the sport.

I hope this clear any misunderstanding, sorry! :luv17:

No problem at all! :luv17: Please continue to post long and often LuffyJackson! :agree:

Of course I have nothing but praise for Aliona for delivering two clean programs when she needed it the most, and she skated a clean FS after her teammates scored 160+, which couldn't have been easy. :cheer2:

As flanker mentioned, though, I am thinking more about Aliona's longer-term prospects, particularly in the Olympic year (assuming she and team Russia can get to the Olympics). Right now she has a big PCS advantage, but that may shrink as the other girls improve, and in the Olympic season other full-package skaters with quads will also be on the senior level. So I do think she needs to work on a quad (or two) seriously in the off-season, and this would be absolutely necessary if they allow quads in the Ladies' SP next year.

Some random stuff from me:

1) Today's my birthday and of course I celebrated by having dinner at a Russian restaurant. But I got my birthday present already--seeing Aliona win the GPF with a record score was all I could've wished for!!

2) Aliona's back in Moscow, and members from Kostornaia Team gave her flowers:

3) Banquet photos, finally!
https://www.instagram.com/p/B53W3Q1p_AI/
I like Aliona's dress! :luv17:
https://www.instagram.com/p/B529nycJaKV/

4) Did you all see Aliona folding the Russian flag very neatly while they were taking photos at the medal ceremony?
https://twitter.com/mekooow/status/1203477425050406914?s=03
Aliona always seems like such a goofball that I was surprised/impressed to see her treating the flag with such reverence.
(The captions on the video are basically making fun of the fact that Anna/Sasha kinda skated off without her, and Aliona was like, 'wait for me!' )

Hi, Batsu-chan! I wish you a wonderful birthday!

If the time shall come when quads are allowed in Ladies SP, I think the PCS weighing should also be raised, to 1.0 or even greater if the general competition has not adapted to the quad revolution (currently only 4 ladies including quads in the program).

Yes, I definitely think the PCS weighting should be changed so it's the same as the men's (for both SP and FS), or possibly greater.

I think I will forever wish that she could just keep performing this program. It's a real masterpiece.

it is, one of my absolute favourite programs of all time. Already here, Alyona was beyond measure in her artistry and totally convincing delivery of a routine without any actual theme. This brought her 3rd place in the National Championships at 14 and made the whole world of figure skating aware of her, a Visitor from the Future.

I hope she'll revisit Dos Cadenzias with her present full arsenal of technique and even more improved artistry someday and elevate the program even higher :)

Tutberidze's 2020 Show of Champion perhaps?

Same. I hope that next season she does a program of similar style to that one because it really shows how Aliona can pull off any style of program. Am I hoping too much by wanting Aliona to use that program for the Olympic season?

Here is a throwback to Aliona’s iconic save two seasons ago at Nationals:

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=DR15MC-oceE

Her 17-18 programs are just so so perfect, she displays fierceness and charisma in SP, while in FS; sensitivity and innocence, I wish her team can produce more well structured programs like these for her in the next season. I loved the departure and twilight but there are parts of those programs that are just seem unfitting to me, especially her FS step sequence, choreo sequence, and the mini dance break :p

Anyone here loves Aliona in Victory Ceremony? she always such a queen greeting the audience :luv17:

I agree with all of you that "Adios Nonino" was a real masterpiece that fit Aliona like a glove. I do think it would be awesome if she brings it back, perhaps as an EX. Her performance of this program at the 2018 GPF gala is one of my most favorite performances of all time!

Unfortunately, since the jumps are set in the second half, I don't think she'd be able to bring it back as a competitive program without some major restructuring, and I fear that would destroy some of the program's magic. But I would love for her to do a program in a similar style! I think her current EX has very different music but a similar quality of movement--there's a kind of slinkiness that seems to come to Aliona naturally. :luv17:

I heard this song recently and while I was listening to it, I could really picture Aliona moving to it in her slinky way:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6O7vewJGMYk

It may not really work as a competitive program but maybe an EX, who knows...

I agree about the 4flip, but the obvious quad to me that she could easily get is a 4toe. She gets insane height, always completes the rotation with a ton of room to spare. I could even see her doing a Rippon 4toe!! I wish she'd tighten up her rotation position on her Flip, but she should be able to learn 4flip. The fact that TAT has talked about it makes me think she has probably seen Alena do it already.

So Aliona is now ranked #16 after GPF! Moving up! :yes2:

It's even more fun to look at this one--Aliona on top this season!

And of course these two: ;)

Ooh, fun statistics! Aliona is certainly working her way up the ladder at speed. What an accomplishment for her to hold the current world records for the SP and for the total scores.

I am so worried. Max Ambesi reported that Aliona has a small problem with her tibia 😭

Here is the source: https://www.oasport.it/2019/12/ambe...ale-yuzuru-hanyu-puo-ribaltare-la-situazione/

I asked him about it on twitter and he didn’t say it was an injury but a small problem, but I don’t really understand the difference.

I saw some tweets about practice sessions that she wasn’t really jumping much and bent over a few times to touch her right leg, so it’s not surprising. Just very upsetting. I hope he’s right and it’s nothing major and she is able to recover. I am just so worried because last season’s injury started as inflammation from her boots and ended up a fracture. I really hope she’s able to rest and recover.

I haven’t heard anything about her missing nationals, and I assume she will still go to try to make the team for Euros after what happened with Liza last season. This might sound crazy, but if she is truly injured maybe she could compete at nationals, withdraw from euros and try to recover in time for worlds?

Of course this is all speculation as we haven’t heard any official statements from Aliona herself. The thing is, they don’t usually disclose information until after injuries have healed (Aliona last season, Kamila at GPF). So I’m not sure if we will hear anything at all.

Oh please no. No injuries. All I want for Christmas is healthy Alena. :sad4:

I also think we won't know anything until like 2 days before RusNats. I really hope she's alright.

Me too. The fact that it’s so vague right now is killing me! Also don’t know if she did something that bothered it during practice at GPF or if it’s an ongoing issue. It’s making my mind spin in a million directions.

I need her to stay healthy and hopefully go to Worlds!!

Well, Max did another podcast tonight and he definitely talked about Aliona:

Can someone please tell us what he said, especially about the problem with her tibia??

As long as she rests and trains sensibly, I would imagine she'll be ok. I wonder what he means by a small problem, though. Fingers crossed that it is nothing major, just a minor tweak, and that she is 100% sound and fit to go at Nationals.
