I listen to the commentary of alina vs gabby and was unfair ...

Ted should comment all GP ...

Ted says NOTHING... he wouldn't be appropriate for casual viewers at all... and what he says is directed to fans with knowledge... he talks about levels and UR and edges....during the replays.... in the most boring voice ever...

I love TED because he is perfect for long hours of streaming juniors on youtube.... we get to watch and then hear the details about scoring in real time... but on tv... everyone would complain about the lack of his input... don't forget that during youtube streaming, there are no commercial breaks and so on... the commentators on tv have to talk DURING the program and not just wait for the 3 minutes of replay and kiss and cry time...

TED is great in the context he is being placed in,.... but on tv.. i am not sure he would be a good match...

Everyone's known to underrotate (so I don't see the point of bringing Evgenia up as she underrotates way less than your average or above-average skater)

Anyway I think the people complaining don't really understand the purpose of a commentator - it's his right to state his opinion, this is just one person's opinion. Nothing more. Didn't change her scores, didn't change the fact she got more points, didn't change the fact her jumping layout was never done before and is unique, didn't change the fact many people hate it, didn't change the fact many people love it.

It did however create one hell of a messy thread on GS

I think he crossed the line from being a commentator to being plain ugly. For me, the bathroom line was in poor taste. What really stuck out to me is when he said she should get deducted from her pcs for following isu rules. If she can backload her program and do it well, so be it. If he doesnt like the scoring system, then maybe he should say that instead of recommending alina be punished. He almost sounded jealous.

Youre right though, his commentary wont change much unless he changes rules. As of now there is no rule saying someone cannot put all their jumps in the 2nd half.

I think he saw another russian with a winning program and started shaking in his boots. If pogo were more consistent, won nationals, and russian fed actually sent her, thats 3 russians with backloaded programs (im a pogo fan).

I do not agree. Take one "famous" American poster. At SC he was unhappy that Mihara "wuzrobbed". At CoC he was unhappy because Wakaba "should have won". Whose side he will pick in France - no idea. And the same is true about those who "miss Yuna, Mao..." and who say that Kostner is the only ray of sunshine in this gray and boring world of modern ladies figure skating.

he will create another wuzrobbed scenario...????

Why should the legend Kurt Browning be jealous of anyone? What would it serve him or anyone for that matter?

Evgenia and Alina are known to underrotate so it deserves to be called out by CBC as such.
I'm not a technical specialist, but want to say one thing.
I love Marin Honda so much, year ago I spent 15 minutes of my life on watching Alina Zagitova's winning JWs free skate on YT at 0.25 speed, thinking "I'll get you, you usurper and smear your URs all over the internet!".

I wanted to catch some single tiny little iffy landing so freaking much and you know what? Everything had been landed at below 90 degrees. Every single jump was clean. :gaah::laugh2:

But don't we all have those moments were we get up and say "this program stinks I can go do something else"? I mean CoC put my family to sleep this weekend.

Now see, that's what is so weird about this wacky sport (or do I mean us wacky fans). Several people on the CoC ladies LP thread said that this was the greatest figure skating event they ever saw, with superb and exciting performances by at least the top seven skaters. Come on, didn't your family even like Radionova? Mihara? :)

I don't even remember who those are

The men's were okay. I liked the ice dance, but again not a lot of suspense there.

I wouldn't know about the greatest event ever, but it was certainly the single most stacked GP event and everyone brought their A game, even if it didn't quite result in medals for everyone. Given that the "glamour" assignments are the other events, who would have thought CoC would bring out all the big guns?

Um, jealous bc skater in his countrys chance of winning ogm or even making podium getting slimmer by the day! Osmond is free to backload her program...I didnt mean he was jealous of her in that. Even hypothetically browning and alina could never compete bc of sex. Osmond and alina, different story! So you know, we gotta take some points away from Zagitova bc she found a competitive edge. ;;)

I totally agree! Explain step sequences! Talk about brackets and twizzles and rockers and counters.

The refrigerator and bathroom break were stolen from Uncle Dick (I think) in regards to Angela Nikodinov. It was awful then and awful now!

I believe some missed the point. Kurt, who is the Originator of the 1st quad in an ISU comp., is stating that "HE" is bored. As a natural jumper and one of the best program performers ever, and the Master of the footwork, I believe that he is expressing his opinion and many agree, that a balanced program has been sacrificed, for the sake of, points. A simple case of math before material.

As others have stated on GS, do not be surprised if the ISU makes changes after this season, similar to the Zayak rule.

Then he should say he doesnt like the rules. He shouldnt say "Well we need to take points away from Alina (bc she found a bonus.)" Its his job to comment, but to recommend she lose points for following rules, strikes me as odd.

Alina underrotating: arguably, yes. Evgenia? Uh no.

Evgenia is usually 1/4 turn short on all of her jump combos (which is just "normal" these days) and last season she was more than 1/4 short on all the 3S+3T combos but never got called. Her 3S+3T is looking better this season but the overall technique issue should play more into the GOE scores and instead she just gets a minimum of +2 GOE on all of her jumps, with many +3's. The other issue is how the calls are being made: many skaters who display better jump technique and are not more than 1/4 short get called for their jumps, while the pre-rotated technique jumps that aren't better rotated, or are actually less rotated, rarely get called.

Then he should say he doesnt like the rules. He shouldnt say "Well we need to take points away from Alina (bc she found a bonus.)" Its his job to comment, but to recommend she lose points for following rules, strikes me as odd.

Alina isn't "following the rules". There are standards for choreography that have have been around for a long time and this is supposed to be part of the judging. Just because there is a rule that any backloaded jump gets a bonus, it doesn't mean it's correct to choreograph a program like that. Many people feel the choreography is being hurt and as such she SHOULD lose points within the PCS when evaluating the programs.

He did sound bitter indeed, and he's hiding behind her to express the fact he doesn't like the rules (which he won't change as a commentator). This, I dislike, and further on - I disagree. Backload if you can and you do it well (in my opinion - Alina does, she does loads of interesting transitions and steps in the first half). He makes it sound like he's unwilling and almost unable to appreciate non-jumping elements.

However, being a sports commentator - something like that is almost expected, that's why I think this blew out of proportion. He is literally paid to say what he thinks. Why is there this constant need to censor everything all the time, I don't understand. He didn't insult the girl, but the program and basically the rules - it's his right, and truly commentators in many other sports are often even harsher, sometimes even vulgar.

As for the bathroom comment - honestly, I don't understand what was so inappropriate there. We all go to the bathroom, don't we? I prefer to go during the commercials because I find them boring. He said he found the program boring using a well-known and often used metaphor. Is this topic something that shouldn't be spoken of nowadays? :scratch2:

P.S. I'm not Canadian nor Russian nor do I live in any country where figure skating is even slightly popular, so my post is in no way motivated (annoyingly) by nationality.
