Andrew Torgashev is a men’s singles skater who represents the United States of America. He was born on May 29, 2001 in Coral Springs, Florida, USA.

Andrew was the US National Junior Champion in 2015. Andrew skated as a junior in the JGP in the 2018-19 season, and won gold at JGP Kaunas. He qualified for the JGP final but had to withdraw due to injury.

Andrew skated as a senior at 2019 US Nationals, where he finished seventh. He also skated as a senior at the Egna Spring Trophy in 2019 and won silver. Andrew's short programs were particularly good in 2020. He placed third in the Short Program at both US Nationals and at Junior Worlds. Andrew choreographed both of the programs he skated in 2029-20 season.

Andrew won the bronze medal at the 2023 US National championships and was chosen for the Worlds' team. He placed fifth at the 2024 US Nationals after coming back from injury.

Andrew is the son of two skaters who competed for Russia: ice dancer Ilona Melnichenko and pairs skater Artem Torgashev. He was previously coached by his parents, but for the 2017-18 season moved to train with Christy Krall in Colorado Springs. In 2019 he moved to California to train with Rafael Aruntunyan's camp.

Clearly this OP will be “expanded upon” as time goes on, but I could not believe we did not have a place to gush about Andrew, particularly as JGPF approaches.

Here’s hoping he skates that spellbinding FS clean in the upcoming comp!:hap10:

When Andrew is Olympic champion in 2022, you'll be famous for recognizing the budding genius and starting a Fan Fest thread for him.

Hoping Andrew makes the most of this competition. That lp desreves to be skated clean in an international competition!

We've seen him several times @ the summer competition in Aston, PA (formerly known as "Liberty"). He's incredibly talented. Hope he has a great comp this week!

IIRC, he won US juniors in 2015. His grandfather, whose English was/is (?) limited was beaming with joy for him, and passed out post cards of his grandson to fans! 💕 :cheer:

What a lovely story about his grandfather; I would be kvelling too, with Andrew as a grandson. And now that I know what fun the Liberty comp is, I hope to see him there again this next summer (along with seeing his fellow fans:) )

But first, Nagoya! Best of luck to our boy:clap:

Well, it's not the JGPF competition that Andrew wanted, or that we would have wanted to see:(

However, he may have been battling an injury according to this tweet
https://twitter.com/ISU_Figure/status/939054360419373056

That would explain the regression in his skating since August, if true. Here's hoping he can recover in time to show what he can truly do at Nationals!:hap10:

Ugh, the nature and timing of his big injury was tough enough, and now another one. :( I hope he doesn't get discouraged, and focus on getting back to his best condition and skating the hell out of his programs.

He really can't catch a break, can he?

My hope is, if the difficulties are the result of an injury, that he keeps this LP for another year so that he can perfect it, I :luv17: it so much. Take a page out of almost every senior skater's book:laugh:

Andrew selected a great comp to skate his best SP of the year. :hap10:

Now he is back to "wowing" folks with his skating skills and presentation, as we know he can do. Please, please, please skating gods, let him do the same with his LP, which I admit I like so much better.

Yes, the definitive moulin rouge program deserves a clean(or at least, mostly clean) skate! I'm just happy he's added Krall to his team.

I like this guy. Two-three years ago I thought Andrew and Petr Gumennik ( he was my another junior favorite then ) will be the main opponents for each other... I thought they will dominate the juniors.

Clearly Andrew's performance at the senior US men's competition was not what he would have wanted, but that step sequence in El Tango de Roxanne is *still* to die for.

Here's hoping Andrew's jumps can be on a par with his skating skills, or at least not far behind, in the next season, so he can achieve the results he wants.:clapper:

Andrew appears to have permanently moved to Colorado Springs; it is unclear if he has changed coaches, although that would appear to be a primary reason for a move to this locale.

This article in the Colorado Springs Gazette concentrates on Andrew's participation in the COS "March for our Lives", which Andrew said on IG today was the "most important thing he had ever done". Scarily, Andrew was almost there, in the Parkland school, during the shooting.

"Watching from his home [in Florida] across the street, he [Torgashev] saw police, EMTs and SWAT rush past to the high school while a helicopter circled overhead. It "didn't feel real," he said. "I would've been involved in the shooting if I wasn't ... moving."
Saturday, three weeks after moving to Colorado Springs, Torgashev walked arm-in-arm with his friends, leading more than 2,000 people in the March for Our Lives...."

Props to Andrew for involvement in his community and excited to see what this means for his coaching.:agree:

Today is Andrew’s birthday so very, very happy and lovely birthday to him.
It seems that he is not so popular as others skaters may be, but I like his skating a lot in spite of all the problems he had with jumps, nerves... The way he skates is beautiful . I wish him a lucky and succesful 2018-19 season. :agree2:

Happy birthday Andrew!

Happy birthday Andrew!

Happy Birthday to Torgashev :hb:.
Seems that he had a chance to pre-celebrate ;) with birthday buddy Matthew Rounis :).

Andrew's performance quality is something special :luv17:.
And I hope that with Christy's help, his technical consistency will improve.

My two cents are that I think he is rather popular on GS -- certainly as popular as his peers Camden, Tomoki, and Krasnozhon (all of whom are well-liked here on GS, afaik :ghug:).
(Speaking for myself, when I post something about Torgashev, I usually do so in the U.S. Men thread. So I do not think the number of posts here in his fan thread is a barometer of popularity. YMMV.)
