Oh my, a bit heartbroken that they have only two spots for Oly.

On one hand i have a soft spot for Kevin since Sochi and i so wanted for him to develop (which he didn't so much, but i still have the soft spot), on the other hand i find Keegan as a more rounded skater than Kevin more enjoyable to watch. I will smile with an eye and cry with the other.

I know who Nam reminds me of now, the actor Nicholas Hoult, he's like the Asian version of him. Anyway, I hope Nam does well enough to make the team. Go Nam!

i agree about patricks music. he could have had any music on and skated the same progression of steps and jumps. he didnt connect to that wailing about dust in the wind. it really doesnt suit him.

Chan has been too indecisive about his training, as far as coaching goes, for too long. Maybe he should remove himself from Olympic team consideration if he can't "rebuild", as Tracy Wilson put it.

Well, who is going to skate in the Team Event? Canada has been rightfully touted as a favorite, but without Patrick, who is going to skate the men's section? The SP is particularly important, because I can see any of the non-Patrick men getting a really low placement there. Patrick might not win the Team Event SP, but he's also not going to place 8th or something like that. I'm thinking the absolutely worst case scenario is that he would lose to Japan, Russia, USA, and China. I don't think he could place less than 5th, and that's assuming the other countries' skaters skate really well.

I know this sounds terrible but, I think I'll have a hard time watching the team event if Patrick and Kaetlyn aren't there. I think Kaetlyn has a better chance since there are 3 spots but, I am very worried about Patrick. I've had a pit in my stomach since his SP and it's back as I type this comment.

It is actually very sad about Stephen =(
Because pretty sure it is not healthy to practice so many quads at such a young age - he is what, 13,14? Will he remain healthy and able to jump when he is 17?

He turned 13 three weeks ago.

Just reading this thread and I don't really think anyone should have expected Patrick to skate an SP at his Worlds 2017 level. Like dude had a meltdown at the end of October. Didn't even skate for a while. That he's back, even if he's falling on quads, is something else. Others in his situation have straight up retired. I know sympathy can be hard to find for Patrick for some of you but at least cut him some slack.

Thank you! Completely agree.

He was also behind in the music which doesn’t help when watching. Too bad, I actually love this program, but I have nostalgic ties to the song and always love watching Patrick skate.

If you want all the feels (to steal @Ancientpeas' line) all over again....

TSN's replay of Elladj's skate, where you can hear the crowd reaction and you can see Bruno and Elladj crying after the skate. I could watch this over and over and over again

As Ted Barton said in the livestream, This is figure skating.

Poor Patrick. I don't really know what to say. He didn't seem to own the ice like he used to. I swear I've seen this exact program from him but to different music. It didn't seem he was skating to Dust in the Wind, and that he was just freestyling to any random song they happened to be playing. I also don't think DITW could possibly be even remotely inspiring to skate to when he's pretty much at the end of his amateur career and barely hanging on ("Don't hang on. Nothing lasts forever but the earth and sky."). It's a depressing song.

Kevin? Well, I've never enjoyed his skating, even if he lands all his quads.

Keegan. I soooo want him to make the Olympic team!

I get what you mean about Patrick skating to Dust In the Wind as his "swan song" for the SP. I love this music, but does seem like an odd choice for a skater of his caliber to go out on. I'm more concerned about his long program to Leonard Cohen's iconic master piece - Hallelujah the skating should also be a master piece which we're used to seeing from the likes of Patrick. Just my personal feelings of course, but I think Patrick should have retired when he was on a high note. It's too heartbreaking to see one of my favorite skaters struggling through a so-so performance. Still I thank Patrick for his marvelous past performances and gracefulness on the blade. One of the best.

Well, Kaetlyn is definitely going to be there! Even if Patrick were to lose his national title, I don't think he'd fall so far back that he wouldn't be chosen for the Olympics. Heck, I think they might put him on the team if he was 4th.

My Vimeo weekly upload limit has reset, so I can upload a few more SP videos that I've cut from the archived livestream (I've already posted Roman Sadovsky's performance and his post-SP interview earlier in this thread: https://www.goldenskate.com/forum/showthread.php?68349-2018-Canadian-Nationals-Senior-Men-SP&p=1922901&viewfull=1#post1922901)
