Modern versus classical music for skates

I have to say, I enjoy some skaters skating to quite recent music now. Allowing music with lyrics definitely brought so much possibilities (I enjoyed Starr Andrews singing her own music, for one).

In a way it seems since most skaters are very very young, they can relate to the modern pop pieces more and thus express them more genuinely (as opposed to being dramatic to some piece of classical music... or skating on top of classical music, probably not really getting it, because... it is not you, but it's "judge-friendly", so they made you skate to it). And it makes figure skating more fresh and attractive to wide audience and keep it with times.

Of course it can get tacky (Tarasova/Morozov and their Candyman) and it can make negative impression if somebody skates to a piece you hate (I wonder if the judges could be truly neutral in such scenario, or if it would subconsciously still have impact).

what do you think?
