Laura Barquero & Aritz Maestu are Spanish pairs skaters.

Laura Barquero Jimenez was born on 25 October 2001 in Madrid, Spain. She formerly skated with Miguel Taranco Ruiz.

Aritz Maestu Babarro was born 19 on September 1990 in San Sebastian, the Basque Country (Euskadi), Spain. He formerly skated with Alexandra Rodrigues, Veronika Grigorieva and Marcelina Lech. Together with Alexandra, with whom he skated two years, he formed the first pairs couple in Spain. He also spent two years in Poland, skating with Marcelina Lech, but due to the lack of ice time and ice teammates of their age, they decided to move to Italy. However, the partnership did not succeed and the duo decided to split.

Laura and Aritz teamed up in 2017, but due do Aritz's injury were obliged to split in May 2019. They were coached by Barbara Luoni & Franca Bianconi in Bergamo, Lombardia, Italy. They are the first Spanish Pairs skaters to represent the country at World Championships (Milan, Italy 2018).

In July 2019 Laura teamed up with Ton Cónsul. They will be trained in IceLab Center by Barbara Luoni.

Franca is their coach, ha-ha)) But yes - still a great pair. The only one thing that concerns me - is the age difference: Laura is 16 and Aritz is 27. After Beijing-2022 he will be 31...

Age difference in pair skating is not so super worrying to me tbh. We have top teams in slightly older age.

Thanks for the thread!! After their short at worlds, they deserved their own thread. :agree:
I've been watching them in previous competitions and it was clear that it was their first season together but this time they were great, they show that they have something special, I'm so happy for them.
I didn't realize the age gap until now, it's big, but I hope they can make it work.

I actually like their FP more than their SP, so it was a pity we never got to see that - but still, they bettered their PB in the SP by, I think, 7 points or so, and that is great.:)

They've been a really pleasant discovery for me this season, and I'm looking forward to seeing what they'll be able to do next season.:)

I've just updated their OP. I added some articles in Spanish (when I find some free time, I will translate at least the one when they talk about the teaming up) and 2019/19 season info and videos. I hope you'll enjoy it.

This autumn they have already competed twice: at Lombardia Trophy (they were 5th) and in Espoo (8th). I hope these competitions will help them improve and move in the rankings later in the season.

Today ISU has announced Laura and Aritz have been assigned to GP Helsinki (2-4 November). What a great opportunity for them! Their first GP event and second in Finland in one month :)

I also felt very happy when I read their names in the list of participants of GP Helsinki, and only until now that the order of participation came out can I say that it is real and not a dream, many successes Laura and Aritz :hap10:

They may be very happy and satisfied with their performance at NHK. SBs in both segments. We can observe they keep improving from one competition to other and all the starts so far in CS have done them good. Good job and good luck in the future events!
