Javi at 15 was nowhere near that good... (Said with all the love I have for Senor Fernandez, but just watch those first appearances in Euros etc back in the day.) Did Artur not say at some point that he admires Javi? I think all the male skaters I like these days have professed their admiration to Javi...

But back to Artur - he had the Spanishness in great body position, sharp arms and hands and with his expressions. The choreo was good overall and he was doing everything to a tee. The jumps looked great - the 3A was not the highest but it was loooong. I even liked the costume!

Ah, you meant his appearance? Artur is more like the adult Javier Fernandez than the young one who was all long curls and somewhat roundness - the short hair and angles of his face came out only in his 20s... :)

So close, but he won the PCS in both portions (PB for both) and has a WR in the SP (score and TES) :hap10: Congrats to him on his first JGP medal :dance3:

Good luck to him in Croatia :yahoo:

Short summary on the interview:
  • Says it took him a long time to get in shape this season but thanks to the hard work of his coaches he entered the first important competition of the season in not bad shape.
  • Says mistakes were due to a problem with his head. He very much concentrated on jumps, wanted to do them clean and as a result he rushed them at times.
  • Olga asked Artur about his hobbies and that he is cooking well and Artur answered that at the moment he is taking care of his weight, so he better does not enter the kitchen. :rofl2:Then he mentioned he never thought he would have weight problems and to lose weight. And that it was very hard in the first time, but now grilled chicken is already one of his favorite dishes. (This was for sure hard for him, just check his ask, it looks like poor Artur might have been even dreaming of food in the night ).

I’m happy Artur seems not too disappointed he didn’t win. I think he can be very proud of himself. He made a few mistakes, but he was in a really difficult situation, having to skate last in front of the home crowd and knowing he had a technical disadvantage against his main competitor who skated well right before him from the very beginning (= no quad). So he handled the pressure quite well. :)
And I think he should have one overall and obviously some of Artur’s competitor’s too think so:

Great choices of music for him, and he carried it out well. He seemed more certain than in last year’s JW. I also thought he reminded me of Fernandez.

Yes, I think it has to do with him taking a few months off after his last competition in March to heal his injury. Thankfully the injury is healed and now he just needs to gain shape and confidence, mainly in the free :) The short program was all sorts of awesome!

Pity about the FS, but he is still only 15 and it is a lesson for how to deal with the coming competitions. The SP showed so many positive things that he already has and I hope he gets them to work in the FS also!

If I find more pics, I'll just update this post.

Congrats to Artur on his medal and a new PB!

Next competition I have for him is Denis Ten Memorial Challenge, skating in Juniors. I'm waiting on the official roster to come out but it's listed on CSKA's website. Competition begins on Oct 10th!

Cheer for Petr really hard next week since if he wins, Artur makes the final  Anything less and he would be at worse 1st alternate but even this is really good :agree:

Also, Artur is on the preliminary roster for the 3rd Russian Cup (Oct 29), competing in seniors. Guess he will try to qualify for senior Nationals!

Denis Ten Momorial (Oct. 9th) has not put up a roster but here is the CSKA source saying he will be there. Not sure if there will be videos from this competition.

That SP is a total killer - he has it down soooo good.

It will take a bit of trying getting the new content into the FS, but I hope he has the stubborness to get through the process - for Javi eg it took about a year to get the second quad into his SP and these were jumps he already had been doing for years... Patience...
