So easy and useless to play shoulda/coulda/woulda now, but maybe sending Rika to Challenge Cup wasn't the best idea. I don't know how much return she really got for skating in the last group for the SP. Then again, I thought the same for Elizabet going to Universiade and that seemed to only help her momentum.

I don't honestly know although having seen the PCS they awarded her for being in the second to the last group, I feel like the results would have been the same either way.

Is it true that Momoka who opened the gala this year is from the same training school as Wakaba? I recognized her a little in her .
Yes.

Momoka Hatasaki trains in Tokyo under
Koji Okajima (jump), Noriko Sato (skating), Nana Takeda (choreo), Risa Mochizuki (spin)
coaching team.

Other current notable skaters of the team are Wakaba Higuchi, Rion Sumiyoshi and Akari Matsuoka.

She was 4th at Novice National (Novice A)

She will be age eligible for Junior internationally from 2020-21 season and Senior internationally 2022-23 season.

The chances that Rika Hongo gets on the GP circuit next season are basically zero, aren't they? She wasn't in a good shape this season. Are there any chances of at least a Challenger for her?

My whole issue with the scoring is that the things that got overlooked by the technical panels, like edge calls and under rotations, really benefitted the top Russian women. I don't think it was a conspiracy because those calls are usually more generous for everyone at big events so scores can be higher, but it does disadvantage skaters who rotate fully and have better technique. So I think Rika should have landed on the podium for that reason alone.

The technical specialist in Saitama was Vanessa Gusmeroli, who was the technical specialist in Sochi, ladies’event. Just saying.

I think she's a very qualified person for the job, actually. Overall, the calls just have to be more consistent from event to event, especially at Worlds where one < or e could have dropped you from 2nd to 6th. Earlier this season, the tech panels were < jumps that were right at 1/4 while at Worlds a combo like Alina's 3Lz(<)-3Lo(possibly <<) got full credit and +GOE, even with a shaky landing.

I totally agree. If the lack of consistency is confusing to us, imagine how it must feel for the competitors. Alinas combo was 3F<+3L<< in real-time to me (her air-position was already wonky if my memory is right) and I was super shocked to see her TES remain sky-high. What kind of message is the ISU sending by having several GPs with harsher than ever calls for both men and women at the beginning of the season, only to end the season on the biggest events with a technical standard like 4 or 5 years ago (at least for women)? Are we really suppose to believe Alina’s performance was the pinnacle of technical prowess these days?

Maybe every jump needs to be reviewed, with the tech specialist having to certify whether each jump was fully rotated, 1/4+ short, or 1/2+ short. It's hard to say whether it was a failure of the tech panel when we don't even know if a jump was reviewed.

Do you think the scores in Japanese nationals should be higher (definitely for PCS)? Of course it shouldn't, but I don't know how it affects international judging in other competitions...

One thing I will say for sure is that Kaori's 3Lo in her SP was the exact same at Worlds and Nationals, yet at Worlds the GOE was all 5s but two judges, whereas in nationals she was only given one 5 and the rest 4s. It doesn't make any sense for nationals to score her less. I saw her GP Final SP again and it was very similar to her Nationals and Worlds performance but her PCS was only 33, and jumps were underscored even more given mostly GOE 1-3. Yet in Nationals PCS was 34.5 and surprise surprise Worlds is 35. Nationals GOE for jumps were 3s and 4s, and Worlds GOE for jumps was 3-5s.

If Japanese nationals consistently inflated scores for everyone then I think it would help juniors and seniors on the international circuit.

Miyabi Oba's 3A attempt in a recent domestic competition: Aichi county competition I think this was during the warming up. She had a fall on the 3A during the FS and got the silver in the end. But it's good that Miyabi is picking up the 3A jump again (she challenged 3A a couple of years ago, but got seriously injured because of that. Then she stayed away from the jump for a while.)

Worst things this season:
Rika being underscored in PCS and robbed of her medal at worlds considering other skaters doing flutzes and underrotated jumps without calls AND GETTING BETTER SCORES in both elements for no reason :dev2:
Yuna being underscored and robbed of her bronze medal at junior worlds and her medal at GP Finland :dev2:
Mako Yamashita robbed of her gold medal at Skate Canada :dev2: (wrong edge flip no sense!)
Mai Mihara robbed of her medal at nationals :dev2:
Rika robbed of her gold medal at nationals :dev2:
Satoko Miyahara being underscored in her PCS whole season :dev2:
Rika Kihira being underscored at challenge cup :dev2:
Japanese junior ladies being underscored in general compared of other skaters in terms of technical and components whole season :dev2:
Please someone tell me the best things that happened for japanese ladies this season because I'm so angry and for that reason I didn't post anything in a long time, :dev2:
Oh almost forget, Satoko being underscored at bavarian open :dev2:

I agree with everything.
The biggest robbery imo is JSF's management of her ladies.
I have other examples of robbery this season but they are strong unpopular opinions, so i will stop here.
For me the best thing that happened to Japanese ladies this season is Rika winning GPF (with the hardest tech delivered in a SP)

Oh yes!!, that sp was magical and potent at the same time, it was historical and for one time the judges give her deserved lovely scores, I think what she did there is unforgetable including her redemption after the mistake in the first triple axel in the long program, you know what? I will watch those programs again <3

The only one that i know who will turn senior next season is Yuhana Yokoi, because she's age out for juniors. Consistent in the free skate but makes almost always a costly mistake in the short. She didn't get a great result at junior worlds but her nats performance can make fed look at her for the NHK host pick.
Yuna Aoki will maybe turn senior too since she competed in Bavarian open as senior and finished 2nd behind Satoko (but won the SP with a respectable score). But she can stay in juniors for two more seasons.
If Japan gets the max spots next season, with Yura Matsuda and Rika Hongo probably out of picture, these two can fight for a GP i think.

Do someone have news of Hana Yoshida? She will turn junior next season. She was delivering free skates with 3A and 3-3s at the beginning of the season but got injured in November or December i think. I wonder if she has recovered and maybe did some local competitions lately.
