As Patrick says, Alysa is "our Lord and Savior"
We just need to not hype the heck out of her a la Gracie
So think this on here and not on NBC :)

Also, in the Bradie Tennell thread, I posted a bunch about US coaches and what needs to happen to get us better. Check 'em out!

I refuse to hype her or anyone else. I just want her to get better and for her to accomplish her own ambitions without 3rd parties trying to derail her career with their opinions. Just let her grow.

Patrick who? I refuse to do anything more than call a junior skater "One To Watch" We have seen it so many times. Remember Emily Chan or Vivian Le? Novice Champ, Junior Champ.....Gone. Let this girl develop and hope she stays happy and healthy enough to make it to the senior ranks.

The State of US Ladies' Skating......................

How about we do this:

a) Invite WORLD CHAMPION Kaetlyn Osmond to Skate America.
b) Tell the American skaters if they want respect they have to fairly beat the world's best figure skater on their own home ice, the Yanks for Osmond AND Canadian neighbours notwithstanding.
c) If they cannot accomplish b; then frankly beg, whine and connive to bring Sarah Hughes or Kristi Yamaguchi out of retirement. I understand both of them have not lost much in skating ability or talent.

There you go. Sorry Ashley Wagner, but you got nothing on Kaetlyn Osmond, Sarah Hughes or Kristi Yamaguchi. Nada.

Um many of the current us ladies have competed against Kaetlyn Osmond. Some have beaten her before, and some have lost to her before. And I'm not sure how beating Katelyn at 2018 Skate America would prove anything at all..lots of skaters, men and women, get beaten on their home ice Grand Prixs...it really doesn't mean too much in the grand scheme of things. But you did manage to get a dig out of nowhere in at Ashley so way to keep it on trend here at golden skate:disapp:

As a Native-Born American I'm sick and tired as frack of watching my own countrywomen act so immature and perform so poorly just the past few months while Kaetlyn Osmond and Gabby Daleman soar above them. That was the point of my comment on the State of US Figure Skating.

I don't know why Kaetlyn would choose to go to Skate America. It's a week before SC. And it's been quite a while since we saw top athletes choosing to compete at both. As we've been discussing in the Grand Prix thread, rumor has it that World Champions' requests are honored. (Unless another medalist has a homefield GP).

If Kaetlyn wanted to go to SA, I don't know why SA wouldn't invite her. She's more volatile than Satoko.

No offence to Gabby Daleman, but did you see her at the Olympics? And her highest gp score (196 at cup of china) was lower then Bradie(204 at skate america) and only two points higher then Miria's best(194 at nhk). She really isn't at some huge higher level then US ladies. I (mostly)don't think talent is the issue but rather drive and ambition. Katelyn is amazing but beatable. And she also had share of mistakes this season. tbh, pretty much every woman from all the countries have had bad performances this season. I'm not ready to write the US ladies off just yet-but they need to work for it.

Thanks evasorange, I generally agree.

I got to watch Kaetlyn & Gabby at the Canadian Championships. Those two could teach the US Skaters a lot about work ethic and commitment.........

Ack don’t jinx her Patrick lmao. When Karen Chen burst onto the scene in 2015 he tagged her as out lord and savior, and, well, we see what happened... hopefully it’s just me being superstitious tho lol:laugh:

What the heck does being a “Native Born” American have to do with anything?

And, concentrating on our Olympic team, I saw nothing but hard work, dedication and maturity from Bradie, Mirai and Karen.:agree:

Placements in a comp are not a measure of who worked hardest, who was more mature, or who was the most dedicated. They are a measure of who skated best in the eyes of the judges that particular comp.

Great point. As native born American I was super proud to see the hard work all three ladies put in to make the Olympic and world teams this year. I’d also remember when Gabby was 9th in 2016 and Kaetlyn didn’t make the team. Everything changed the next year.

Audrey Shin has a new program from Phillip Mills, per his blog. (He does not specify whether SP or FS.)

The music is Romeo and Juliet.

Interesting excerpt from the blog:

Last year, Rafael and Vera Arutunian sent me several skaters to choreograph their new programs. We were testing the waters to see how renewing our relationship might work. Well, it worked quite well. We have already started to expand things for the coming season as Rafael recently sent me two of his top juniors. Eric Sjoberg and Audrey Shin have recently received new programs from me.

It feels like our alliance is growing and moving forward in a positive direction. ...

ETA (on Aug 12):

Just noticed -- belatedly -- this update on PM's website:

Phillip Mills joins Rafael Artuyunyan at Lakewood
July 2, 2018
Phillip is excited to be invited to Lakewood Ice Arena to join Rafael Artuyunyan‘s team.

Confused how Gabby D. Is better than US ladies? Her SB was 196, Mirai’s 194, Bradie’s 204. Shes about the same level. Mariah Bell even is 190. After Kaetlyn (and Gabby) Canadian Ladies really falls off, their third lady didn’t make fs in either worlds or Olys. Bradie beat Gabby at world top btw. The one junior Canada sent to Jr. worlds didn’t make the fs either. We at least had Ting making top 7 in a super tough field where almost all contenders skated clean. (Breaking 60 in short and almost 120 in long) We also have Alysa Liu landing clean 3a-3t’s in practice (https://instagram.com/p/BhYGOvAlNr5/) Kaetlyn is the only skater from Canada that is really much better than our ladies. I don’t know why we are suddenly looking to Canada as the best. Say we aren’t as good as Russia, Japan. Canada has one STELLAR lady and one lady just like ours. Thats not exactly peak national ladies field.

Have we heard anything on whether Karen will go to a jump specialist?? She could really be a top skater. But the jumps haven’t improved since 2015.

Realistically, I'm not sure how much she can change her jump technique and maintain consistency. It's much tougher than it looks to overhaul the jumps, in large part because they are so difficult even with your preferred technique.

Canada has zero depth in ladies. Senior Canadian lady #3 Larkyn Austman failed to make the cut for the FS at both Olympics and Worlds, #4 was fading Alaine Chartrand, and #5 was Aurora Cotop, who DID make the FS at JW 2018, but finished 17th overall, leaving Canadian juniors with 1 JGP entry in 5 events next season.

Ashley was able to, to a certain extent, and Karen really has better raw material to work with in terms of height/power/speed/edge quality than Ashley did.

It's now or never for Karen. I think if she doesn't change coaches now, her jumps will never improve.
