If Karen comes back this season with the same oversized lutz trying to go into a 3-3, I AM GOING TO SCREAM. WTH, Tammy??? It’s been 4 years of that same failed technique!

the probability for it to happen is high. I dont think they will make Karen do 3T+3T or 3S+3T for SP unless her 3Lz+3T attempt are all so bad. In FS 3S+3T/2A+3T as replacement is possible though if they're smart

Emily Chan and Starr Andrews were among the athlete assistants at USFS Athlete Acceleration Summit that ended a few days ago.

(It is a new version of the former USFS Components Camp, I believe.

Other athlete assistants at the summit: Torgashev, Rabbitt, Dolensky, Razzano, Cain, LeDuc, and two synchro skaters.

Chock/Bates spoke to young skaters attending the summit.)

Alysa Liu has been added to the show in Westchester County, New York, in July.

Previously announced: Mirai, Karen, Starr.

ETA:
Jeremy Abbott and Rohene also have been added to the show in Westchester County, NY.

I hope that Starr and Emily were taught new skills and not just sitting there listening to speeches. I hope some experts came in and taught a few classes, at least.

My understanding from the social media posts of skaters I follow who were there is that Starr and Emily were *assisting*, not attending; that is, they were helping younger skaters. The skaters I saw attending the camp were not juniors or seniors, but there to learn from juniors and seniors. The assisters and attendees were on ice in all the photos I saw, not in a classroom. I do not follow Starr or Emily, so I could be mistaken.

Champs Camp and the camp for Senior B attendees (whose name I forget) would probably be more likely for Starr and Emily to hone their skills in a camp setting. The most likely for skaters of their caliber, of course, is their own coaching staff and whatever specialists that staff uses or enlists.

Not to mention the fact that they DID have the opportunity to take on a leadership role by being part of the instruction team. They also learn how to work with younger skaters as well. Not everything has to be about the competitive aspect of the sport.

Yikes, not understanding why your knee-jerk reaction is negativity?

As others have underlined, Emily and Starr were athlete assistants at the weekend summit/camp -- with the responsibility of helping less advanced skaters to learn.

I linked above to Ashley Cain's Instagram post. Her comments about being an athlete assistant (emphasis added):

icegirlash

Athlete Acceleration Summit ✅ I’m so proud of all of the athletes and instructors at this camp, they all gave 100% effort all weekend! Even though I was one of the assistants, I felt like I learned so many new exercises and techniques to improve my own skating. Never stop allowing yourself to grow as an athlete and an artist! Thank you @usfigureskating for allowing me to have this opportunity! 🇺🇸 #usfigureskating #teamusa #athlete #fitness #motivation

No one was "just sitting there listening to speeches."

Excerpt from the information guide for the summit:

Athletes will rotate through a series of on-ice and off-ice classes that will focus on the following principles: skating skills, performance, style, music theory, creativity and originality. They will practice exercises to help them explore expression, interpretation, musicality and skating technique, alongside current Team USA athletes! Athletes will have approximately four on-ice and four off-ice classes per day.

It so happens that as one of the camp offerings, Chock/Bates gave a keynote speech to campers and held a Q & A session with them. (Not in a classroom, BTW.)
That would be two-time Olympian Chock and three-time Olympian Bates. Who have been world medalists, national champions, national medalists.
What on earth is wrong with that?

Really inspiring video by Ashley:

She's such an incredible athlete and I always have sympathy for those who miss the Olympic team so I hope that, if she decides to carry on skating, she'll rebound, and that if she doesn't, she'll pursue other interests happily. She's done a lot for the sport and has nothing to be ashamed of in her results: a World medal, 3 national titles, 7 Grand Prix titles, an ISU title and a trip to the Olympics. Her honesty and determination has really made her an icon and its a video like this that makes her an inspiration to so many young girls.

I think some Mariah fans had already expressed concern about her not getting enough attention from Raf - and this was before Marin, Eunsoo, Ting - and also Kolyada (for the summer at least), and possibly more Chinese mens skaters.

Really? Will Mariah Bell get any attention at all there now?

I wouldn't count on it. Rafael has gotten used to winning. He's going to hone on Eunsoo, Marín, and Ting and make them the start of his legion of lady winners.

Huh... Korean, Japanese and Chinese American. Odd how that happened.

Now that I think about it, riding up the ranks are girls from other less represented Asian decent. Vietnamese, Pacific Islander, Thai, etc. Nice to see.

Not as far as I know. Actually, I don't think any US ladies have been announced for any of the shows this summer outside of the US. The only NA ladies I've seen for those shows are Kaetlyn on Japan and both her and Gabby in South Korea.

Part of the problem is that SOI USA conflicts with SOI Japan, whereas SOI Canada doesn't.

Maybe Kaetlyn might be more marketable than the American ladies as she is OBM and WGM - even though sadly she hacked off her hair:( I hope this isn't a Michelle Kwan thing. Remember when she cut her hair she had trouble skating - perhaps a Samson / delialh thing

Her hair was sort of getting a bit shorter throughtout the year then came SOI and she hacked it. Sometimes you notice when a woman is about to do a big hair change. Hair slowly gets shorter then whack! It is a bob. Some say a lob but it seems to be above the shoulders.

Well. At least it's not so extreme.
