Keeping up with this thread is like homework, but it keeps me SO PUMPED!!
Besides EVERYBODY.. who is everyone's favorite US Lady? The one(s) you're really rooting for?!

Because Mirai Nagasu is seemingly out (although she is training?)...

Ting Cui.

This girl has amazing skating skills. Her upper body movements are sublime. She has the technical ability but she hasn't been able to put it together. She kind of reminds me of Sasha Cohen but with better skating skills. Everything she does seems so easy (almost too easy) and picturesque.

Too bad for her botched combo at Linz... she could easily have been in top 3. Luckily she is only 3 points off the podium going into the free! Hoping that she can become a better competitor (in terms of focus).

Has there been a replacement assigned to fill Karen’s spot at US Classic?? Isn’t the competition in about 2 weeks?

Is Gracie ready? I'd love to see her get another event. I think she needs to be out on the ice in a competitive environment!

Michael Hopfes (Mexico) is the assistant tech spec at JGP Linz. I seem to recall that he is a generous dispenser of carrots (<) and edge calls (!,e). Nearly every lady got a 'gift' from him, so I wouldn't worry too much about Ting's flutz.

I'm already cringing thinking about the freeskate---if the SP was any indication, the FS will look like a carrot patch.

The new rules are harsher are borderline underrorations IIRC... will be interesting how different people judge URs.

Hopfes is doing only Men in Linz.
Ladies have Marta Senra (Spain) and Alena Savostova (Belarus) as technical specialists with Lisa Jelinek (Australia) as controller

I think Ting should get a second JGP spot based on the first half of her LP here. The more she can practice competing, the better. She has potential/talent that no other US junior does, I think. The quality of her jumps and spins are excellent. Needs more practice competing and better SS.

Based on what we’re seeing so far from both the Russians, South Koreans, and Japanese on the JGP circuit this season, Alysa Liu (bless her) is going to need a lot of polish to make a splash next year. The quality of the competition is undeniable. It’s not just the BV and levels - it’s the GOEs and the choreography and performances too.

I don't think a fifth place should get a second JGP when we have so few.

I do however think USFS needs to send some girls to a late season non-JGP, but still junior event (Golden Bear/Spin I think has a junior side). Spread the JGP spot around, then, the top three placements/scores (this is complicated) get sent to face off at a later event. The top girls get more practice, and USFS gets to see how they compare to an international judging panel... then hopefully the choice for Junior Worlds will be more clear with ladies with at least one more comp under their belt.

100% agreed. Ting has the technical foundation and talent. It’s very clear that judges like her as her PCS were ranked 3rd in both the short and long. To me it looks like a focus issue... but also she looks like things come easy to her (jumps etc.) and I think she needs a little more grit and fight in her. Also that free leg needs to check out way more quickly out of her jumps. Had she not had that meltdown, she could have had at least 12 more points easily! Hopefully the fed will give her another assignment because she definitely needs more experience out there!

I really enjoyed the first half of Ting’s FS - she has so much potential, and that really showed in the first half. Her jumps were really nice and her carriage was really pretty. It’s too bad that she let things unravel after the first jump error. I hope she can learn to manage that, because until then so much of what she did was beautiful.

I liked the music choice, and I liked the step sequence a lot.

ETA Stitch who would you give a spot to instead of Ting? I think she needs experience competing in order to be competitive. She is much more well rounded than some of the other US juniors I’ve seen.

I wonder what they will go with for second assignments -- score or placement? Ting had a higher placement than Pooja but a lower score. Hopefully they can both get second assignments.

I’d give Ting another assignment. I think she has the highest scoring potential out of all the USA juniors. 5th is not bad considering her errors.

We’ll see how Audrey and Hanna do in the next two weeks
