Pooja Kalyan was born November 25, 2002 in Arkansas. She trains in the Chicago area with Alex Ouriashev and represents the United States.

She is the 2018 US National silver medalist in junior ladies, and the 2018 Bavarian Open junior bronze medalist, as well as the 2017 US National novice bronze medalist. She had two lovely programs this season, choreographed by Scott Brown. She has previously worked with Lori Nichol as well.

There is very little info on her out there as she is just starting to get noticed (2017-2018 was her first junior season), but I am captivated by her charisma on the ice and can't wait to see what she does as she further takes the spotlight!

She must be getting ready for Bratislava. The competition isn’t that tough outside of the top five (Russia Japan South Korea) so I’m hoping for a good skate and at least top 6. She can do it.

I just watched her skate Wednesday. I am so excited to see how well she is doing. She has speed and flow, beautiful jumps, and her extensive ballet training is very evident in her carriage and arm movements. She is the complete package, and I can't wait to see how she does in Bratislava!...I'd love to see her on the podium.

Her LP is the Lion King medley! She did it at a rink near me when she took her Senior FS test :)

Uh oh, sounds like I have this mixed up. Do you happen to know what her SP is?

Adding -- I see the info for the SP in the competition thread:
SP: "Bacchanale from "Samson and Delilah" by Camille Saint-Saens; choreo by Scott Brown

I changed my mind....... if Pooja has learned new jump combos, she could outskate a couple of the top 5, I think. I’d be pleased with a 4th place finish. She can do better than 6th.

Before watching Finlandia videos, I was looking at protocols and was a little alarmed to see Pooja's low marks. Didn't realize she has a brand new program. It's a very nice instrumental medley of songs from Porgy and Bess. I think it will be a much better vehicle for her than the Lion King medley. Looking forward to seeing it when she has had more time with it. Jumps weren't quite there today, although normally they have a nice springiness to them.

Did we ever hear why she withdrew? I was trying to find something but didn't see anything.

Only that she withdrew due to injury - but nothing specific.

She skated well in the SP though, too bad she had to withdraw.

Oh, I hadn't even heard that it was injury. I was wondering if it was possibly flu or similar. Dang! She did so well in the SP and was really hoping she could gain the experience of also skating the FS. :sad4:
