As we know, next year's short dance/rhythm dance will be the Tango Romantica (Argentine Tango for Juniors). To prepare for next year, let's share some of our favourite tango programs! I will go first:

Jeffrey Buttle - Adios Nonino: Jeff at his best. Love that he carries the back half of the program with two gorgeous footwork sequences.

Yuna Kim - Adios Nonino: Understated elegance.

Weaver/Poje - Maria de Buenos Aires: My second favourite FD of theirs after Je Suis Malade. They create beautiful shapes. Hoping they can modify this and produce a condensed version of this program for the SD next year (if they decide to continue).

Virtue/Moir - Tango Romantica: Beautiful lines, edges, and expression. As Tracy Wilson mentions, that's the first time she heard the audience clapping along to a CD.

What are your favourite tango programs?

Do gala programs count?

Akiko Suzuki "Libertango" - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v1gDGozML94 (I wish I could find a higher quality video - the expression in this program is AMAZING. That fierce footwork! :drama:).

Mao Asada "Por Una Cabeza/Payadora" - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k7_bJnZDbqo (Lovely, detailed choreography and one of the most effective uses of toe-work I've seen! I wish I could find the version from The Ice in HQ, I really liked the forward scratch spin at the end there XD ) As a bonus - here's a shortened pair version of this program skated with Jeff Buttle - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IPq1ALFGFSc (The have such good chemistry and matching lines they could be an awesome ice dance team XD )

Daisuke Takahashi "Primavera Portena" - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K6NvuVJ8lEU - Just... *fans self* His earlier Tangos, Tango de Roxanne and Eye were good as well (especially Eye), but this just shows that maturity and experience matters.

Nobunari Oda "Adios Nonino" - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oFxf2OAI6tE - Just wonderful choreography that goes from longing to fierce and to wistful again, and those jumps just fly across the rink :luv17:

3 out of those programs were choreographed by Kenji Miyamoto, he sure can choreograph a mean tango.

Out of competitive programs:

Virtue/Moir "Assasination Tango" - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BxwTvBseZb8 (still one of my favourite V/M's programs, I just love the mix of fire and precision).

Kanako Murakami "Tango Meddley" - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nSNHk2GcISU (a bit stalked jumps, but one of the most clever choreo sequences and good musical expression in steps).

Out of already mentioned choices, I liked Jeff's Adios Nonino and Yuna's Tango de Roxanne.

Boy, was it ever hard to find good quality videos. Pick your poison - messed up aspect ratio, crackling audio, TV screen recorded with a smartphone, commentators screaming in your ear and/or completely muted audience... It's odd, I remember there being good videos of all the performances I mentioned :(

For me, the Tango that moved me, my imagination, was in this style, but still there was something else in it I cannot put my finger on, was Gilles/Poirier FD in 2016/17 season - the construction and interpretation of that dance impressed me from the first time I saw in at senior B competition, my hands down fave performance of it was Skate Canada: https://youtu.be/w67w7__Puxw

Tessa and Scott had perfect Tango OD in 2006/07 season and of course CD in Vancouver Olympic season - definitely the team who had the best lines and punctuation when it comes to that pattern, the team who worked magnificently with the style and aesthetic of Tango, making universal appeal, but giving out nuances and intricacies of the dance.

WeaPo's Maria de Buenos Aires was also a great redition of Tango program - it was elegant, class, but oozed chemistry, this moderated drama flair and sensuality, I have high hopes for their Rhythm Dance upcoming season.

From single skaters, Jeff Buttle's and Yuna Kim's Adios Nonino programs were fantastic, also Patrick's Esqualo grew on me with time - well, having this kind set of skills allowed him to make everything looking great and mesmerizing, regardless of aesthetic.

Don't know, if Daisuke TakahashI's 'Eye' SP from 2009/10 season counts as Tango, but for me it had some Tango references and I loved his interpretation, body like an instrument:love:

As for 2010 Romantica Tango, I also loved Domnina and Shabalin's rendition, in terms of interpretation and general impression it was definitely my favourite CD of Vancouver Olympics.

Apparently tango liked D/S :p and what I find one of my favorite gala programs ever was this:

Their tango in 2010 was superb, it's so sad that it (and their entire career really) is overshadowed by that awful OD choice :(

They were better than people give them credit for, it's a shame that is what people remember the most.

I love tangos!

Plushy's Tango Amore! I also love the costume - I once saw it on a worst-dressed figure skater list and was so offended :laugh2:

Also love his Tango Roxanne especially at Sochi, what a boss.
