Gala Exhibition of Ice Age Kids 2019 season.
Duration is 2,5 hours.

Thanks, this is going to be fun !

Masha Rebrova rocks and put Kostornaia on the map.

From the series, I liked the May 9 commemorative numbers the best, the kids conveyed the emotions of Remembrance Day very well.

Ilyusha and Nikushya, LOL :)

Did Mariya Ponomarova just tell Mariya Rebrova joined her group?

Kseniya Melkumova showed more unique slides and spins.

Nikolay Kolesnikov has a really unique ‘salfetnitsa’ which also is his talisman:)

Ilyushya and Nikushya, LOL :) Zhilina is Trusova Mk II in the making though. And she received a little doggie Matilda for her 11th birthday.

Dima Kashayev really pulled his Metallica number off.

With Russian figure skating, particularly ladies singles now at an all time high, the quality and popularity of this show will only make the program stronger over time.

Averbukh built a new ice rink in Simferopol which will have a new skating school. Basically he donated the one he was using for tours and got the local government to donate land and a prefab building to put over it: https://www.instagram.com/p/B9uLbZrIskL/

But the sad news is in the comments someone asked him about a 3rd season of Ice Age Kids and says there won't be one.

zabarovakatrin19: Tell me, will there be a 3rd season "Ice Age. Children"? If yes, then when? I'd like to know ...)))
@zabarovakatrin19 Unfortunately no, it won’t.

I really wish they would have continued with it as it would have been a good recruiting tool to get kids to take up the sport. I wonder if the coronavirus had anything to do with the cancellation or if they felt like the project would go in a downward trajectory anyway and would prefer to pull the plug. I may be misremembering things, but I thought it received OK ratings last year.

The Instagram page was last advertising the 4CC in early February: https://www.instagram.com/ice_kids_1tv/
The Youtube page(which almost has 250K subscribers) last uploaded the Navka-Zagitova ice show in late Januargy: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCR7_eJ_lYr7CedzMmgLIRyA/videos

If somehow they do decide to continue it again say next year or the post-Olympic year, I hope they reach out to international audiences on their youtube channel with either an English announcer and/or subtitles.

One idea I had that only really makes sense if they continued is I thought they should have "specials" where they bring back the best participants from the past 2 seasons(before they're on the JGP) for a rematch.

But instead of doing full season's of the show, how about a few special competitions a year with the best skaters around 10 years old?

If true, sad news indeed.

TV shows are a volatile business, the show might have been an artistic success but could be a financial loss at the same time.

Small Arena at Luzhnikakh for a week, ice, trainers, judges, staff and crew, hotels for kids and parents from outside of Moscow, it all adds up. And few advertisements on kids shows.

FK, that was started by Channel One before National Championships, only had three episodes, the one supposedly recorded with Kostornaya got never broadcasted.

I recently read in the comments section of a sports.ru article that Kostya/Konstantin Lesik of sports24 said that 1st channel regrets buying the rights to figure skating because it doesn't bring in the interest and revenue they were expecting: https://www.sports.ru/figure-skating/1084072980.html (comment thread of the most upvoted top comment)

I'm kind of interested in knowing what Lesik's exact words are.

And someone responded to that comment by saying the ratings for figure skating on TV are good... which has been my general impression too. But that person was downvoted in the comments. Ice Shows for active skaters(as opposed to older skaters and theatrical productions) seem to be much better off than they used to be.

I kind of wish that Zagitova would have been Russia's sole gold medal winner at the 2018 Olympics and that fact could be used to shame people in power to invest in the sport.

Who is it? Why is his opinion important? What does this Konstantin Lesik have to do with First Channel?

Looks like they were trying to change it back to an older age format. But instead of ice dancing with celebrities they were trying to pair single ladies skaters with men's pair skaters. It seems the project fell through when Zagitova declined. Tuktymysheva and Sotskova were the other two skaters listed.

https://m.sport-express.ru/figure-s...e-v-lednikovom-periode-ona-otkazalas-1653790/

(I learned of this from this fsuniverse post)

Kind of wonder if they got the idea of doing something pairs related from Battle of the Blades and wanted to do something similar because they've never done pairs before. I've never actually watched that show before(I might now), but I just looked a at clip and I could see them thinking they could do better with single skaters and real pairs partners. I also wonder if they thought they could get better advertiser interest changing to a different format... or if Averbukh just wanted to try something different... or if this was Trankov's idea.

One of my long time ideas is that there's room for a figure skating discipline that's kind of situated between ice dance and pairs that's more accessible to single skaters. I think a show like this could be a good way of exploring that. I'd call it the "duet" discipline. There would be side by side jumps and maybe throw jumps. Much more skating oriented than pairs... maybe have a close hold sequence and a separated step sequence. I would personally ban twist and overhead lifts but perhaps simpler versions could be allowed. I also find side-by-side spins "romantically unconnecting" and death spirals too cliche-ish... so I'd prefer them left out or only have one of either in a program. But there's a lot of different ways and possible opinions on how to put something like this together.

I personally think this project would have been better to pursue in a year or two, but I think it would have been good for Zagitova to have accepted. But there's a big psychological barrier for singles to take up pairs which is why something like "duets" could be useful.

I think Zagitova's PR team was smart not to accept anything that could result in 'failure' or tarnish her image.

This quote from the article says it all IMO: “The invitation of Zagitova was confirmed by several sources. One of them related to the organisation of the show stated, 'singers and actors skating are no longer interesting to anyone' ”

So a new format for the adult show is probably in order.

"Ice Age, Kids", however is wonderful in concept and execution. My only wish is for a younger and less politically coloured judging panel. No more icons like TAT, Bestemyanova or professor Mishin but young judges with a good connection to the children, Sotnikova, Kovtun, those were nice.

Hmm.... the ice age Instagram account has made a couple of posts in the past few days after being completely silent since February: https://www.instagram.com/ice_1tv/

No announcements, just "do you remember" and "what was your favorite" kind of posts. It's a good sign nonetheless.

Interesting.
Off topic: Is it possible that they organize something like Russia Open, similar to Japan Open, where teams are not formed by clubs, but by random drawing (or some other means). This Russia Open could be broadcast worldwide, so people can still see first-class skating this season.

Week 2 of their new season just passed. Quite a few of their videos have a few hundred thousand views including the full episodes which are also available.

It's a fun change of pace, but since I don't know any of the celebs I prefer Ice Age Kids. Sometimes the weak skating form the celeb kind of ruins it for me but sometimes it's also interesting to see how they work around it.

I'm just glad they're still going at it and hope they keep going at it.

They just uploaded a compilation of all the winning performances of the adult versions of ice age:

(If someone wants to start a new thread they can. I typically avoid doing so if I can help it. Personally I'd prefer to have 1 long running thread rather than a separate one for each edition of the show. )
