Hi guys. So after the junior ladies' short program in Linz, I just couldn't help but see a few changes in the jumps' base value. I mean, until last year, a 3lz-3t in the first half was worth 10,30 whereas now it's only 10,10. Could some1 please fill me in?

It is only me getting the vibe from Yuzuru that this will be his last season? Choosing to reenact such iconic programs in both his competitive programs, him going back to his influences just screams this to me. But nonetheless i cannot wait for him to skate at the world gala together with Plushenko on Nijinsky!

He said he wants to land +5 GOE 4A in competition so unless he does it this season it won't be his last season

I'm hoping that his plans involve this year going back to his origins, basically indulging that tiny prodigy who years ago wanted all the things he's done and achieved, and then next year or the year after (we're in no hurry).... he'll be thinking about how to go out with the sort of bang that no one will ever forget.:jaw:

And the 4A, yep.

Kind of underwhelming FD music choice for me, especially coming after a very strong, characterial, egdy kind of free program last season. But serving romance will always find its audience. With RD we will see how it pans out, I think that if there is a strong technique in place, the program will come together nicely, it is usually a matter of taste regarding these 'top' teams; with Tango as a theme, the danger could be overacting, overdramatizing piece or making it too weird.

I mean... They are a bit too old for R&J... Like yes it is a romantic piece and they've proven countless times they can sell romance very well, but they have too much of a "hot and heavy" type of chemistry to sell the puppy love dynamic of R&J imo. My early prediction is that their RD will overshadow their FD.

H/D's FD music is unexpected and somewhat disappointing for this stage in their careers. Coming off of a silver medal win at Worlds and with the Shibs taking the year off, I expected them to try to solidify themselves as the #2 dance team on the circuit and US #1. I know we have yet to see their program but this choice seems like a step backwards and may leave them vulnerable to being overtaken by Chock/Bates and Weaver/Poje again.

ETA: I clicked on the isu link and only see last season's program information. Where are you getting these music choices?

I think it's a glitch b/c the links I posted of the junior men also reverted back to last year profiles or are completely blank and they were not like that last night. H/D profile was indeed updated to this season's programs and have reverted back as well.

ETA: okay half seemed to have reverted back but some are still showing this years programs :scratch2:

On the top of that, I think that R&J, regardless of music version, is not the easiest piece to interpret and make work out of it despite probably common belief. The theme and vibe of the story/piece strikes me more as a youthful and a bit 'naive' one whereas Madison and Zach represent in my opinion more mature, grown-up take on romance, rather sensual and layered than literal. Well, and there is a warhorse issue - I was very surprised to see them choosing this piece as their latest works placed them in more contemporary aesthetic with strong raw chemistry emotion emphasis for me; I do hope that the program was put together and the theme was chosen 'by heart' and will be a success though.

Glad to see I'm not the only one to find H/D's free dance music choice disappointing. They can sell so much more. Hopefully, like NoNameFace said, this is a piece they've wanted to skate to for a while and once the season is over, they'll return to more interesting music. JMO. But I have high hopes for them selling the tango.

That’s strange! When I copied the info from their ISU bios yesterday, it definitely reflected this year’s music choices.

I guess they also didn't want to do anything sensual for the FD since it's Tango this year. I'd be fine with them doing romance for the FD, even if some people won't find it super interesting. But R&J does seem young for them - I mean Juliet is 13 in the story.

But I wouldn't be surprised if this is something they/Madi have wanted to skate to for a while. If Madi had wanted to skate to it, it's not like she was going to do t when she was with her brother. But who knows.

This seems like a giant step backwards for H/D. Now I am curious to hear what C/B are skating to. I understand the year after the Olympics being experimental for some skaters, but I don't see how RJ will push them as skaters. I think there might not be a clear US 1 and 2 until one of the younger teams has a breakthrough and shoots up the rankings.

Very surprising choice by H&D. They are not known to be "storytellers" skaters.

I guess I'm in the minority and I don't think anyone can be "too young" to play R&J. Ballet dancers in their late 30's dance successfully to R&J all the time.

I think A&P were in their early/mid 20's when they skated to R&J and It's my favorite R&J FD.

Totally agree. And I thought that they had asked their followers on Instagram and other social media to send their suggestions! Why didn’t you suggest something else, people?!?! It does seem underwhelming after last year’s brilliant FD but I guess I will reserve my judgment till I see the finished product...
