You know, we could just wait like 6 months, I promise it isn't really that far away.

But they're both seeded, though, and might never meet during the GPs! Who knows, maybe it's 9 months away! :dbana: Or 11 and a half, if one of them doesn't make the GPF (oh lord please let's not let that happen...)!

The answer to the original question is no. If everyone keeps their same content, then Zagitova clean would beat everyone, as proven many times this season and has yet to be disproved.

It's were talking hypotheticals, however, then Sasha Trusova with a Ch sequence and senior PCS boost (she doesn't need much), with her current planned content, will beat Alina and everybody else.

Of course you can argue super hypotheticals as well, and by that I mean things we haven't seen before. If Evgenia does 4S, is Kaetlyn backloads her entire program clean and has a correct edge lutz, is Gabby does 4T, etc. But based on what we've seen, the only one who has a shot, that is to say a comparable/ highest TES, is Sasha. You can say hypotheticals about everyone, like is Alina does 4Lo, 4Lz, 4F, and yeah you can say never say never, but that is likely never going to happen, like many of the other hypotheticals.

So to answer this question: no. Possibly when Sasha is senior, but currently, no.

not quite... they are not in the same category of seeds so they could even meet at each grand prix... but i doubt Skate Canada will want that, especially if Gabby also gets seeded (Caro skipping out or retiring)

OK, fine, 6 months is a short enough time then!

Uh, what?! Not sure if you recall, but 3 weeks ago, Kostner beat all THREE Russian entries at Worlds.

Prior to that, she also beat Sotskova (the Russian silver medalist) at Europeans (in Russia) and the Olympics.

Kostner beat Tsurkaya at NHK, beat Tuktamysheva at Finlandia & Lombardia, and beat Radionova at Rostelecom... in Russia... by 20 points.

Zagitova/Sotskova/Tsurkaya/Tukt/Radionova were all top 10 at Russian Nationals this year, so I can't even begin to understand your logic in saying Kostner (who, btw, does have the full set of triples, and a 3F+3T combo) quite likely wouldn't even qualify for Russian Nationals.

I think what everyone is trying to say is that Carolina, being the only top skater in her country, has had many chances to fail and also recuperate, as any skater should. But the Russians do not have that luxury, and neither do the Japanese. Yes, Carolina has beaten the top Russian skaters once or twice; but that doesn't qualify you for olympics. For example, Radionova also beat Medvedeva once upon a time, but she wasn't even an alternate for the team. I think it's fair to say if Carolina were Russian, she wouldn't be competing at worlds or olympics. The number of mistake-ridden skates Carolina has had this season, she would not have been given another chance. Look at Maria Sotskova, who went into nationals as GPF silver medalist. She was the last choice for the olympic team. Carolina is talented, and what she can do at 31 is amazing. But how she has remained on the international stage is because she is Italian. Same can be said about Kaetlyn, where things were awful for her after her injury. If she were Russian, she would have never been seen again after that, not because she didn't become an amazing skater who would become world champion, but because she wouldn't have been given the chance. Look at Radionova; she was world bronze, then 5th the following year. She made GPF both years. The next year, she wasn't even sent to Europeans, and never again after that. It's just the competition pool in Russia.

There is no chance to develop if you screw up a few times, and that's awful. But with only 3 spots, that's all that can be done. It's not the skaters' or the fed's or anyone's faults. Because it would but unfair to send someone who messed up over someone who didn't, even if they were once olympic champion. If Zagitova, Medvedeva, or anyone else messes up GPs and doesn't place top 3 of the Russians in GPF, then they're basically done. That's just the reality, where as in other countries, they will have other chances.

Why is Osmond not potentially tired too and just Zagitova? Miyahara was also at the Olympics, as were several others who performed at Worlds. Let's not play the "tired" game - unless you mean mentally she was unfocused after a long season but Osmond and others could have been too.

Zagitova did have one more competition than Osmond: Europeans, which came right after Russian Nationals and right before the Olympics. The US and Canadian Olympians didn't go to 4CC, although Miyahara did. Boyang Jin did 4CC too, and that may have contributed to his meltdown at Worlds.

Canada can control who's at Skate Canada only, not who's at Kaetlyn's second event. And then there's Medvedeva, who isn't even seeded. It could get interesting....

So, are skaters guilty now for competing less when they know they have a long season ahead? I think it's pretty much up to them and their coaches to select their schedule, and not for us to judge who may have been more or less tired to explain good or bad performances.

These kinds of arguments could lead to.. oh well Alina is 15.. she can compete every week and not feel it.... while Osmond is no longer a spring chicken (she's in fact a beautiful swan ;) ) at 21 and she needs more time to recuperate.

When a hypothetical question is raised, best not to find answers based on hypothetical concepts either. In other words, nobody, nothing can evaluate quantitatively the level of fatigue of the competitors here

i know that... if you quoted my entire sentence you would know that i said exactly that Alina and Kaetlyn, not being in the same seed group could meet during GP... though, I doubt this will happen at Skate Canada...

if you want to elaborate, keep in mind that there is a good chance that Keatlyn gets invited in France as well... as NHK may not want her in Japan... IDF being close to COR it may mean that Kaetlyn doesn't indeed meet the top two Russians until later... BUT again... hypothetical...

Also hypothetical, as mentioned in my post is the influence of Carolina's participation in GP or not. If she doesn't do them, Gabby becomes seeded and that will also make a difference on assginments if Skate Canada hopes that they compete or not together at home.

Weren't the Europeans held in Moscow, Alina's hometown? There is a huge difference in taking a taxi cab to the arena for a comp. versus a 14 hour flight, times 2 or 28 hours in the air and then adjusting ones body to that time zone. This is the reason the top North American skaters did not attend 4CCs , held 2 weeks in advance of the Olympics due timing, distance and the wear and tear on the body.

Not saying there would not be fatigue but gosh, the Europeans were held in her backyard and over 2 months ahead of Worlds. And btw, the distance between Edmonton and Milano is over 12 hours of airtime and with a few stops in Toronto, Frankfurt, even longer, versus 3.5 hours from Moscow.

So who's tired again?

Noooooooo, she would have get another chance. Kostner is so far ahead everyone that the tough competition in a country can't affect her

Was Kaetlyn sick with the flu after the Olympics?
Did Kaetlyn HAVE to attend state functions and media conferences every day after the Olympics?

As a Gold and Bronze medalists from the Olympic Games, indeed she did!!!

She even had small injury post OG, and yes to media and interviews daily, not only in Canada but also Icenetwork and others, and a trip to Toronto in between for JSOI practices with Jeff B and fittings.

Alinas season should have ended right after the Olympics but it didn't and the rest is history.

But back to the subject title of this thread is no no one can beat a clean Zagitova at this point. She was pretty clean to very clean in her first six events this season and won them all even beating the seemingly unbeatable Zhenya. So no if Alina skates clean she cant be beaten and in FACT was not this season.

Next season will be interesting especially if Alina has to face the fast rising Sasha and Alena and a 100% healthy Zhenya at nationals. Get your popcorn ready.

Regardless of WHERE the competition was held, Zagitova still had an extra competition, and it was against Medvedeva, her chief rival who she was facing for the first time on international ice. Remember, Evgenia had withdrawn from the GPF. This was no walk in the park on home ice for Alina: it was a major Olympic prevue, with Kostner thrown in, just 3 weeks before the Olympics.

Honestly, she probably wasn't tired because of any of those things. She's probably tired from the things after the Olympics, like all the press and the show, but mostly just because she was sick. But I think it was obvious her issues at World's were due to lack of training time, because of reasons above.
