Nope. Alena is preparing or has prepared programs for next season. I think Ashley is just on a break.

I love Alena and if she wants to skate for fun, I'd love to see her out there. Unfortunately, the Russian Team has so much depth that I can't see her making it to Europeans.

Wrong on so many levels. It likely cost this team a podium at the OG's and for Elton John, her job as their coach. Moving on.

Ah Mr Rice we are dating ourselves. When I first saw Candyman as a program selection last season, I too thought of Sammy Davis Jr and that classic tune.

Sadly, it was Christina Aguilera and panties dropping and cherries popping:shocked:

I like the Sammy Davis tune and would much rather have seen that:agree:

Actually Kaetlyn has staked to Candyman before, and I kinda like the costume, and wasn't really bothered by the program. She was really young back then though, and I think if she has to do it now, she would do it a lot better.

Popping in with a tidbit from the synchro-sphere: Nexxice’s junior team did their short program to Candyman four seasons ago. Even though the music cuts and edited out innuendo were a lot better than T/M’s, watching it was still super cringey for me, because all the skaters on the team have to be younger than 19.

It was incredibly jarring to me because when halfway through the program i started listening to the music I heard something along the lines of "he's a one stop shop, with a real big-" *whistling*

Why why why?

At least we can all agree this is the one thing that we can leave in the 17-18 season and keep it there

I wasn't saying all Russians couldn't pull off Candyman - but those were some CHOICE examples of Russian teams who could! :laugh:

I mean, maybe if a Leonova and her AU male counterpart did it (I.e. she's one of the few "fun"/"quirky"/"personality-driven" Russians I could think of who would bring out the fun and sass in a committed, non-awkward way).

Most Russian teams do not have that vibe.... they are too austere and trying to do anything fun looks incredibly forced/contrived.

Their Carmen and Tango de Besame were miles better than Candyman...if that is at all comparable.

they have the maturity to pull it off. Ksenia has the image of being a strong, independent, fierce woman, so if Ksenia skated to 'I don't pop my cherry for every man I see' and they perform it in a comical way, it could work. Just like it could work if Adam or Chafik skated to it.
not that I say they should, it would still be one of their worse programs, but they could.

Look, this song it certainly never going to be a masterpiece, no matter who skates to it. But I do think Ksenia and Fedor are one of the few (other ones are Adam and Chafik) who can skate to it, without it being totally cringeworthy. It would just be a so-so program. But not a totally unappropriate one with a 16 year old skating to it. The polka costume has to go though.
