From experience, I prefer board less rinks. They prevent injuries related to slamming into the boards, even though we all have a good idea of where we are jumping in order to not run or fall into them.

Either way, myself and others I know, would rather slide onto the floor/mats at the side of the rink than the boards.

Thanks for weighing in!

What happens when you work on your 4A. Yuzuru's 3A has changed
https://twitter.com/uwuvier/status/1036627628919332864

And more so here - the 3A now has more air time than his 4S, the height has changed, as also seen above, but he opens early too. It's almost, almost like a popped quad. Crazy stuff.

It's a thread, going by frames, very curious to see.

Anyway, in Yuzuru speak, it looks like he is at the point where he isn't landing them for positive GOE which is what he wants to achieve prior to including it in the program. He said if he were to try and explain it (the journo asked, while giving him a doll of all things :palmf:) then he'd say it's like a jump in athletics of 6 meters while rotating.

It appears that they are all taking heed of the dance guidance to change vertical height even during step sequences.

I've been thinking about this ever since I read your comment. I actually did notice there were more hops in both Conrad's, and Yuzuru's, or what we have seen of it, programs. Yuzuru has quite a few of those. I'd have to rewatch Gogolev though. I think we'll know more once we see Zhenya and Jason's FS, as all of those were done by DW. It's certainly making the programs more dynamic, personally I love the change but it is also making them more difficult.

The atypical hydroblade is squished due to it being the SP but even the FS one is shorter than what we're used to. Yuzuru actually talked about, and I find this very interesting in general, the 4min program being more difficult than the 4.30 min program. Even when one triple pass is cut, I believe he said that takes 10sec, it still means the rest needs to be squished and it makes the program busier and tougher to skate.

Wow - both Brian and Yuzuru have gorgeous, absolutely enormous 3As. Just breathtaking. Brian is obviously a great teacher as well as a great skater.

Thanks for that! The difference in height is amazing.....

And then he keeps the looooong one for the exhibition....

Wow, Brian could have gone for a quad with that height and that open last rotation!
When I saw Yuzuru's new approach to the 3A, something in the new height and posture made me think immediately of this 3A of Brian's.

I'm wondering if Brian had thought to look back to his early technique when they moved forward to train the 4A.

TCC Tidbits for the day:

Conrad answered a few questions on his Instagram story today. He named Yuzuru Hanyu and Evgenia Medvedeva as his favorite male and female skater. When asked how close he was on a scale of 1-10 with Junhwan, he answered 11 :)

Janny is due for fees on September 6th in Novogorsk. On September 8th she will present her short program in front of the federation. On September 9th she will present her free program in an open test skate in Moscow. Brian Orser will be attending and rumor has it David Wilson. They will be on their way to Russia as we speak or in a day.

For a further, and interesting comparison, take a look of this slow motion archive video of Brian Orser's first ratified clean 3A.

Mr triple Axel all right, those are just brilliant.
Supposedly he did do quads (not the 4A but still) in practice and ah one can easily believe it when one looks back at his jumps.
Yuzuru did reconstruct his 3A once he went after the quad, so nothing would surprise me, on the contrary. Brian, plus Ghislain of course, and it really is an ideal enviorment to attempt that beast.

@Tavi
It'll actually be really interesting to see what happens to Jason's 3A. Backloading one, if not both later, with positive GOEs is such a good source of points, so who knows, I would not be surprised if one of the goals is just that.

As for Zhenya, she is going alone (well, with her mother) and then Brian will follow a day later. Per her mother DW is going with them.

Speaking of Brian's axels: https://twitter.com/vertigo06/status/817195905237458945

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O_uzoTCDVfo A video from media day with eng subs. You can catch a glimpse of TCC at the beginning and later of some skaters (I can see Evgenia, Joseph, Junhwan, Stephen and Jason). Yuzuru mentions what media day means to him, why he chose his programs and theme for this season. He also talks about 4A.

A new video from Olympic channel with Javi talking about Yuzuru: link. "Yuzuru is a mistery" :laugh2: I hope it means that there will be a longer video with Javi about Javi...

I hope that Evgenia will do well during test skates and Joseph at JGP :cheer2:

Thank you so much for this - he really is quite an extraordinary person, isn’t he, as well as an extraordinary athlete.

And the jump comparison clip - uncanny!

@Yatagarasu - agreed! But frankly at this point it’ll be really interesting to see him do anything! :)

Interview with Brian about Zhenya: https://fs-gossips.com/brian-orser-...-medvedeva-like-with-an-adult-now-we-do-that/

This is causing a bit of a fight in the Russian ladies thread, lets not do that here…

I don't know if that was his intention but for sure he has shifted haters' focus from Evgenia to him ;) During Olympics he did similar thing with Yuzuru's injury and lack of training. Made other people focus on other things. Anyway, I really like this interview. It's important to show that you have faith in your students but also that everything will be alright even if they make mistakes.
I’m completely satisfied. I think, it is enough to say that both Zhenya and I flew to Moscow with a feeling of great anticipation. I want to show the programs, to show what we managed to do over the past months.
It is clear that at this stage performance may be imperfect, but no one expects the figure skater to be perfect in the first days of September.
I am disappointed that he didn't use his "first pancake" analogy
I always talk about how “the first pancake is not well done.” The right heat, the cooking time, how to coordinate, et cetera––the first competition is for us to learn all these things, to see the good side and the bad side.
