SUMOTO Mitsuki (Kanji: 須本光希) represents Japan in mens singles. He was born on 4th February 2001, in Izumiotsu, Osaka, Japan. He is the 2017/18 Junior Grand Prix Final bronze medallist, and the 2017/18 Japanese Junior National champion.

He is currently coached by Yoshinori Onishi, who also coached Tatsuki Machida.

Mitsuki qualified to the 2021 Japanese Senior Nationals by finishing second at 2021 Western Sectionals.

His biggest inspiration in figure skating is Yuzuru Hanyu:

Q: Please tell us who is a skater that you like, you respect, a skater you would like to be like going forward, and also the reason why?

A: Well, for myself, I guess it is Yuzuru Hanyu. At the 2012 Worlds held in Nice, France, I saw his Romeo and Juliet program, and it really struck my heart. I started skating when I was 4 and until I was 13 I wasn’t even able to jump a double axel, but watching Hanyu and always wanting to be like him I was able to come to this position, so he’s a skater that really inspires me. Thank you combo for setting up such a detailed thread for Mitsuki! I am not yet a fan, but I wish Mitsuki good luck in the new season, and look forward to seeing his progress. He deserves his own thread.
ETA, his new SP to Tosca was revealed at a show recently.

:)!!! Yeah, I hope he can have a good season, it sucks that last season had to end with injury after being so solid all the way through. I hope he can make a few more fans this year. And thank you! I've updated the OP to include his new SP.

Thank you :thank: for this thread and such a informative introduction!
It looks like his name isn't on the men's FF index yet, I'm glad to find he has his own page here.

His new programs in the ice show/event look wonderful and promising. I think Nanami Abe's choreography really suits his style.

SP: Tosca
FS: Mi Mancherai

He will participate Asian Open with other skaters next week.
I hope he has a good time there and gets the result he wants. Good luck :).

Mitsuki missed out on the podium at Asian Open :(
He had low spin/step levels, unclear edges on both lutz and flip in both programs, a fall, two under-rotations and some rough landings in his FS, which took him down to 4th place.
Nevertheless, his PCS mark in both programs wasn't bad at all, and it's of course only the beginning of the season. Lets hope things go better at his JGP in a couple of weeks!! ( ᵕ̤ ‧̫̮ ᵕ̤ )

Good job, Mitsuki!! Here are the protocols: SP, FS
He got the 3A in the SP! Still some issues with unclear edges and levels - and lower PCS domestically than internationally, but he's doing well. It's still so early. 。^‿^。

I won't be around for the SPs tomorrow, so I'm stopping by to wish Mitsuki good luck. Hopefully he'll rebound from his AO disappointment. Ganbatte!

Mitsuki!!! °˖✧◝(⁰▿⁰)◜✧˖°
He's in second after the short, with only a turn out of his 3A and a couple of missed levels. He has such neat, controlled jumps when he's on, and it's my favourite thing.
Here are the protocols. He performed so much better than he did at his challenger event. ~(‾▿‾)~

Good luck for the free skate!!

His skating looks really big and elegant when he feels music and flows with it. Congratulations on the good performance and 2nd place!

I was a bit afraid for him, after the Asian Open and see, for Bratislava, all those good junior skaters packed on one event, but he skate so wonderful

Great skating skills and musicality. Wishing to see him with a Quad in the near future. Not sure what happened to his spin this season, it used to be a lot faster and centered.

Just returned from Bratislava ad I want to say I'm in love with him. He seems to be reserved (or maybe nervous) and I don't know what was shown in livestream, but after he realized he won silver he broke into tears from happiness. So... Congratulations and good luck in this season :luv17:.

I want to like Mitsuki. He seems so emotionless and robotic to me. I hope my feelings will change, because he seems to be a strong, mature skater!
