SUMOTO Mitsuki (Kanji: 須本光希) represents Japan in mens singles. He was born on 4th February 2001, in Izumiotsu, Osaka, Japan. He is the 2017/18 Junior Grand Prix Final bronze medallist, and the 2017/18 Japanese Junior National champion.
He is currently coached by Yoshinori Onishi, who also coached Tatsuki Machida.
Mitsuki qualified to the 2021 Japanese Senior Nationals by finishing second at 2021 Western Sectionals.
His biggest inspiration in figure skating is Yuzuru Hanyu:
Q: Please tell us who is a skater that you like, you respect, a skater you would like to be like going forward, and also the reason why?
A: Well, for myself, I guess it is Yuzuru Hanyu. At the 2012 Worlds held in Nice, France, I saw his Romeo and Juliet program, and it really struck my heart. I started skating when I was 4 and until I was 13 I wasn’t even able to jump a double axel, but watching Hanyu and always wanting to be like him I was able to come to this position, so he’s a skater that really inspires me.
