One leg won't stop Russian skater

"One leg won't stop Russian skater from getting back on the ice"

Tatjana Flade wrote this article which has been recently published on the ISU-homepage about former Russian figure skater Ivan Samodelkin, who lost his leg after a horrible accident:
    https://www.isu.org/figure-skating/f...mplateParam=15

World bronze medalist Mikhail Kolyada and Junior World silver pairs medalist Dmitri Ialin alongside other friends started a fundraising campaign on Instagram using the hashtag #Ванямыстобой (Vania we are with you) to enable Ivan to receive a high quality prosthesis. Mikhail's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/p/BkdSD6_n...ikhail_kolyada. I’ve seen information about this action already on many skaters’ instagrams and it’s great to see such extent of solidarity among skaters and we fans might of course join. Tatjana Flade shares information on Ivan's fate also on her Facebook side: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?f...5760236&type=3

Please also feel free to share this information on your social media channels. Thanks!

I’ve seen it posted all over social media. What a tragic event! So sad but it really is nice seeing the community come together. I hope Ivan can have the best recovery possible and all the suppprt he needs.

Thank you for your support. Ivan really appreciates the support he got and he is overwhelmed by it. He never would have expected that. When I interviewed him on the phone I was impressed by his positive attitude and strength. I hope his dream can come true and he will be able to return on to the ice with a high tech artificial limb.

That's horrible, but so nice to see the skating community rallying behind him. Hopefully he can skate again some day!

Thanks to everybody who donated and supported Ivan.

For those who are interested how Ivan is doing:

    - Ivan got a temporary prosthesis and is currently learning to walk on it.
    - Later on when he has adapted to this and once his leg has completely healed he will get a multifunctional prosthesis (the one the fundraising project has been started).

He posted about it on his Instagram and thanks everybody for support (it’s stories, so you have to be quick to open it, as it will disappear soon):

Ivan’s wife also thanked everybody for support:

With recent tragic news some words caught my special attention – Ksenia mentions how their ideal world changed completely two months ago and that words cannot describe what they’ve gone through. But today they are absolutely happy that have the opportunity to spend each day together, to wake up beside each other every day.

Ivan cut a big main artery when he got injured, he lost a lot of blood. I red that after the accident even his life was in danger due to heavy blood loss. I now even more recognize that despite losing a leg staying alive was probably a big present given to him and I very much wish that he can continue his young life with as less discomfort as possible.

    Many thanks for the update!
Yes, the paypal link works and I donated a little - I wish I could do more.
Wishing Ivan the best recovery possible
It is horrible that young men die or get injured in peace time, life can be so cruel...

I got curious if anyone's ever been able to do an ice skating with a prosthetic leg, googled, saw this and decided to share:
