Oh that behind the scene of Yuzu's warm up before the Olys FS released by Olympic Channel Chinese weibo account lol. It's funny to see a while before his gold winning moment, he was trying as many crazy ways to catch a ball, trolling Brian about 6 pack abs and having his lip syncing concerts whilst everyone around him are practicing serious normal warm ups XD. Looks like he was having fun rather than going to battle. And the Olympic weibo account mentioned they have a whole lot of backstage Hanyu "stock" they will gradually release per schedule. Looks like there might be some stuff to help through this drought .

I'm so thankful for Olys Chinese account, seems like they have even more footages and will release them slowly. t
The best part was the smile to the camera at the beginning, the 6 pack trolling to Brian, and the Cizeron trolling.

YES. With Cizeron, he reminded me of the little kids who copy me during freestyle sessions. I can't wait to see more.

The best part for me (as a Japanese language lover) was that I'm 99% sure I heard him say 「行ぐべ」around 6:07. It literally means, "I'm going/let's go", but in that context would mean something like, "I'm going to start (training more intensely)", and he said it in thick Sendai dialect.   Can any Japanese speakers confirm if that's what he said or if it was just wishful thinking because I love dialects?

I think it could be Igube (行ぐべ), Ikube (行くべ), or Ikuze (行くぜ)(I wish the sound was clearer but am thankful for weibo for giving us these footage). The first two are dialects and boys and uncles use Ikube in our area of Kanto, but they don't use Igube. If Yuzuru is saying Igube, we can say he used one of Tohoku dialects IMO.

Yuzu is now officially nominated for the international Laureus Sports Award 2019 in the category 'Comeback of the year' :hap57:

https://mobile.twitter.com/LaureusSport/status/1085890049697345536

The five contenders for this award besides Yuzu are:
CAN Mark McMorris (snowboarding)
NED Bibian Mentel-Spee (snowboarding)
IND Vinesh Phogat (wrestling)
USA Lyndsey Vonn (skiing)
USA Tiger Woods (golf)

All my fingers crossed for Yuzu. He could become the first figure skater ever to win a Laureus :yahoo:

The replies to the tweet definitely favour him :yahoo: Our wounded hero and what he did...

I've been revisiting the Olympic thread and videos, given that next month it will be the anniversary of that achievement. That Seimei, may not have been quite perfect but it is still four and a half minutes of something utterly incredible.

I've just found out:

The award ceremony is scheduled for the 18h February. That's one day after his PyeongChang victory anniversary!!!
Since the Laureus is a really big thing, I bet my Pooh plushy that he will be there, so it's likely that we will see him live in one month!! :yahoo:

It's also run by a foundation that is a big force for charity works - I can see that being important to Yuzuru who does try to use his own stature to help others.

He's the full list of Laureus nominees with short descriptions:

They wrote about Yuzu:
The reigning Olympic men’s figure skating champion suffered a serious ankle ligament injury three months ahead of Pyeongchang. Although not able to practise jumps until three weeks before the competition, he remarkably won a second straight gold medal.
In 31 days Yuzu will walk on the red carpet in Monaco with Djoker, Lewis Hamilton, Simona Halep, Angie Kerber, Lyndsey Vonn, football players from Real Madrid, France's national team and so many others...:drama:

He really deserves this acknowledgement. Congrats Yuzu :hap10:

Sounds like a lot of big, beefy guys will be there. I wonder if any will try to lift him.

So is it not common that nominees don't show up at the award ceremony? Are there athletes who skip it because of schedules? Please tell me about it, I know nothing about this award (except for wiki info):

I've heard Naomi Osaka is a nominee for "Breakthrough of the year" (or something) this year and I feel like she'll win, I'm not sure about Yuzuru but I hope we'll get to see him there. They introduce nominees by showing the videos so we are able to see it at least, am I right?

I watched the ceremony occasionally in the past and I can't remember anyone in specific...
The Laureus is comparable with the Oscar/Academy Award for actors, so even a nomination is a huge honor. The gathering of so many sport celebreties in Monaco is nothing you want to miss, I guess

Yes ! The Laureus is like the Oscars in sports, particularly for highly commercialised ones like tennis, golf etc ( since the awards tends to prefer these athletes). Not to say Asians barely get nominated let alone get awarded. Past nominees included like Phelps and Federer etc, and this year he is up against Woods in his category..it is pretty amazing for just getting a nomination for someone from Japan! Especially when there has never been figure skating.

I am glad he is getting his deserved recognition by foreign outlets like ESPN, Laurels, Chinese media etc.
(and he achieved all these by himself without the help of any PR agents too)

BTW, I hope he can go and also meet Naomi (since they are now both ANA sponsored) I will be very interested in her Hanyu fan reaction XD. It will be on the anniversary of his second gold too! If he wins, that is the best present, if not I'm sure he will still get very hyped himself from seeing all the amazing athletes and boost his morales for the WC.
