really? that's even stranger. it's almost like getting a participation trophy... :slink:

can anyone explain the changes in the scoring system since rio? i'm not a fan of the lower scores, last year when i first saw them i thought everyone was just doing really badly or the talent bank really shrunk after the olympics lol

Basically from what I understand they just lowered the point values of everything.

only when they're done well, which is basically only by Simone. She makes them at least bareable, most everyone else struggles with them and they are PAINFUL to watch.

But they do them because they're worth so many points. It's like Uncle Dick always used to rant about "that ugly catch foot." It's worth points so they do them. There aren't many ladies doing them in NCAA gymnastics, because NCAA gymnastics is still scored from a 10.0, and there are a lot of ways you can get to a 10.0 - you don't need to do things you aren't good at to try to get more points. ONE of the LSU ladies was doing them a couple of seasons ago (not sure if she's graduated) and she was the only one I know of in the whole SEC who was doing them. Always got big oohs and aahs from the crowd, because they were unusual and she did do them well. I was watching a competition from 1976 on the USA Gymnastics Youtube channel. I had forgotten how good Nadia really was - just simple, clean, lovely gymnastics.

i'm a little confused...don't you have to have extensive gymnastics experience as well as a name for yourself in the sport to commentate?

There's always one commentator who is the one who sort of guides the broadcasts, announces who we're watching, etc. - like Terry Gannon. Then there is one or two who add color commentary with the more technical side of things - like Tara and Johnny. In this case - Tanith is in the Terry Gannon role with Tim Daggett doing the color commentary.

This will halt/impede the evidence discovery process--no more gathering of evidence or depositions during at least part of the organizations' bankruptcy process...

the elite gymnasts in in the US have to be afraid right now...i can't imagine training day in and day out not even knowing if they'll be eligible to compete internationally at some point because of their own federation. i can't help but think that might be a possibility at some point, no matter how big or small.

I know it's the norm with gymnastics, but does anyone else think it's a little strange that the alternate gets a medal for the team event? when i saw Ragan had a medal i was like ????

I guess they're using the basketball or football or indoor volleyball logic where the benchwarmers seem to still get the medal as long as they dress for the game, even if they don't actually play.

Athletics and swimming give medals to prelims-only athletes, though they don't get the podium and anthem. One of the sources of woe in the USA athletics 4x100 baton droppage over the years has apparently been because there was pressure from athlete's agents to go with two entirely different squads for prelims and finals because a gold medal, even if it's for a prelims only race, helps those athletes get better invitations and appearance fees at the bigger regular season meetings.

Now in the light of the new solid facts after independent investigation the USOC is facing a flood of lawsuits too. And now more than ever US public opinion is demanding from a Congress a big full official investigation into USOC and USAG. Since their members were lying on the record and live on TV about not knowing about rapes and abuses. And we all remember their words in front of the Congress members and now we see facts about they knowing and covering it all up FOR YEARS.

Full report here: https://www.ropesgray.com/-/media/Files/USOC/ropes-gray-full-report.pdf

https://www.nassarinvestigation.com/en It is a very chilling report done by independent investigation firm hired by USAG/USOC. It is a rather shocking one and in a very nasty way. But gymnasts, abuse and rape victims and survivors saying this report is a very watered-down and just a "lightened" version of all the ill events for the last 2 decades and they still demand full discovery and bigger official FBI investigation now. Short summary is here, it is frightening to think there would be more horrible things than those: https://www.nassarinvestigation.com/-/media/Files/USOC/Executive-Summary.pdf

It might get messy. For all sports and worldwide. :(

For anyone interested, NCAA gymnastics season started yesterday. So exciting. If you've never seen a collegiate meet, give it a try. If you live close to a college with a team, the tickets are usually really cheap also.

Here, he performs Mai Murakami's entire floor routine https://youtu.be/fC0wKaYS9Os?t=108 You can see he put a lot of effort into doing the whole thing exactly as she does it.

Kenzo is amazing, and such a sweetheart! I was totally prepared for the WAG elements (dance passage, turn) to be horrible, but they are actually really nice. Definitely not worse than the ladies competing now.
