I was very impressed when M/G debuted their Argentine Tango RD at Minto. I believe they are a young team with enormous potential. I'm starting their Fan Fest in time for their JGP debut next week

Miku and Tyler got quite a warm reception from the hometown crowd in their JGP debut. Very happy to see them put out a beautiful free dance performance yesterday, showing more of what they are capable of. The program itself is improved from their summer outings and the execution was on point.

M/G showed a nice range of expression and good chemistry with each other across their two programs. They need to work on their RD now to get the levels. On the AT pattern, they didn't hit any of the 8 key points according to the tech panel, so 5 points lost there. I think some of it may be due to the nerves of skating first at their first JGP. Anyway, I'm hoping that they get another assignment from Skate Canada, even if it's not a second JGP. They have the talent, just need more international experience. Hoping that they garnered some new fans these past few days :).

Miku and Tyler competed at BC/YK Sectionals this weekend with a new PB of 146.18, second behind Orihara/Royer.

RD: https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6wvz42?start=2864
FD: https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6wxz1c?start=332

They changed their first set of twizzles from holding the blade to holding out their free leg at 45 degrees. I liked the original set better because it was quite unique right after the difficult dance jump entry and when they got the timing right, were stunning. However, they have much better success getting these new twizzles in sync. They also changed their diagonal step sequence to incorporate more non-touching steps. I liked the more intricate steps in hold in the original sequence, as it was more in character with their dance but I can see that the new one has better speed and ice coverage. And I think these are two areas of noticeable improvements in both dances; the amount of ice they cover in the rotational lift for example is impressive. Overall, they had a strong showing and good to see them make nice progress after JGP Richmond.

Miku and Tyler finished 8th in a deep field at Skate Canada Challenge, with a new PB of 88.60 in the FD.

RD: https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6y4x4z?start=1987
FD: https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6y6laz?start=8942

They looked quite polished this weekend and improved their levels. Other than a level 2 on the second section of the AT pattern in the RD, they got level 3s and 4s across their two dances, which is a major improvement from previous comps, especially on those step sequences. Their new twizzles from sectionals are coming together nicely. I also liked the little changes they made since sectionals and the nuances of expression they added in their RD. Watching them alongside the other teams, even though they do lack the power of the older teams, what stands out is their mature interpretation of the character of their dances and fabulous connection with each other. I updated the OP with the scores they received at domestic competitions this season. Onwards and upwards to Nationals :)!

Don't have video, but Miku and Tyler actually just skated their RD in the JGPF (in the opening ceremony, which features local talent, on the ISU stream):yahoo:. What a pleasant surprise, hoping to post the video once ISU archives it. They performed quite well in front of the big audience with stellar twizzles :agree:

Miku and Tyler finished a respectable 9th at their first Nationals as juniors. A thrilling dance competition, where all of the Top 10 gave strong performances.

RD: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ffyD8X_7F9E
FD: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lo6_DICZerQ

Despite a few technical glitches, such as some timing issues on/missed key points in the pattern of the RD, they put out performances that they can be proud of. Glad to see their coaches continually striving to improve their programs choreographically throughout the season and that's great in part because every performance is fresh with a different set of nuances. This time, they replaced their choreographed spinning movement in the FD with a choreographed character step sequence. This element needed more mileage but I'm glad they were able to demonstrate it and use it to emphasize the playfulness of that section. Ted and Debbie had some kind words for them, particularly impressed with their connection and their innocent/uplifting interpretation of their dance.

A great season they had, starting with a silver at Lake Placid, performing as competitors and guests at two big home competitions, and giving respectable domestic showings as well. I'm interested in what they can do with the musical/operetta RD with the new 'Tea Time Foxtrot' pattern next season. I think it should suit them well, with their radiant personalities.

Congrats to the new Minto Junior Ice Dance Champions! :)

Their Winning Free Dance: https://youtu.be/3HUqFzBCVTw

A new PB of 91.83 in the FD. Noticed their improvements in projection and power. Loved their energy and full commitment throughout their free dance (quite different from last year’s), good chemistry, elements nicely incorporated, and I think Miku especially shines through here. A promising start to the season.

I have updated the OP with M/G's program information and results so far this season.

For those who haven't seen their fun Hairspray RD yet, here is their performance from Lake Placid Ice Dance International (thanks Sarah Rasher!): https://youtu.be/dAe7cZ8xQr8

They finished 6th at this competition, an opportunity to perform their programs and get some feedback from an international panel before coming back to Lake Placid later this month for their first JGP. They are also listed to compete at the BC/YK Section Summerskate (August 15 to August 18).

Well, that was a roller derby, but they're narrowly in third place going into the free dance. Big opportunity for them.

The Czech team in fourth got lower TES but higher PCS; we'll see if Miku and Tyler's PCS goes up tomorrow, since I imagine they weren't really on the judges' radar up til now. Not uncommon for teams in their situation to see an increase.

Miku and Tyler were second in TES.

Very glad that they hit most of the key points on the pattern here. It hasn't always been the case, especially remembering back to what happened at JGP Richmond last season (no key points hit on either section of the AT pattern).

This 27+ PCS is encouraging. I don't think they have even achieved 26 points in domestic competition before this. They have improved their comfort level in the performance aspects, as Ted pointed out, and judges recognize PE/IN as their strengths.

Anyway,
