I’m so happy to see Avonley and Vadym get some love from fans this season. I fell in love with them last year when I saw their West Side Story free dance. It was rather lonely on the N/K bandwagon back then; it’s nice to have some company now.

Reminders of their brilliance until we get to see them again at JGPF:

N/K are going to be the highlight of the GPF for me! I'm so excited to see them that I plan on waking up at the crack of dawn to go to their 7am practice :party2: I made a hand-held banner for them so they can be sure to see they have fans there!

Oooh, I am vicariously tickled :hap85: for Avonley and Vadym that they will have the support both of your banner :hap36: and of your presence even at early practice :coffee:.

Avonley and Vadym are going to be the highlight of GPF/JGPF for me too. (Edging out my other favorites Camden and Satoko. :ghug:)

Have a great time, TanithandBenFan.

Go, Avonley and Vadym. :yay:

For posterity, links to two short videos that are worth watching in entirety:

ISU promo for JGPF dancers: https://youtu.be/qi2wdaNl1Wc (;) but Avonley/Vadym are seen starting at approx. 0:28)

Erm, did anyone notice that N/K are leaving for Vancouver TODAY?!?!? According to Avonley's Instagram, Vadym's passport only came back from Canada now... junior ice dance is the first thing up tomorrow!! The time difference between Vancouver and Michigan shouldn't be a bother compared to others, but still I hope this doesn't affect their program :drama: Do well tomorrow!!

Avonley and Vadym's post-RD interview with Meagan Duhamel:

I had gotten teary when Ted Barton mentioned his e-mail from Avonley, who told him about how hard Vadym and she have been working.

I'm thankful that Vadym received his passport back just in time for them to arrive in Vancouver last night. (Long after Wednesday's official practice, but could have been worse.)

I love Vadym's goal for the FD. :yay: Go get 'em, guys! :cheer2:

ETA (on Dec 7):

I am touched that @zachtdonohue Instastory has bits of his Junior RD fancam-ing of team-mates Avonley/Vadym and training-mates Lajoie/Lagha. Zach showed Avonley/Vadym's twizzling ("🔥 🔥 🔥") and then Igor and Pasquale welcoming them off the ice ("Great job guys!").

Good luck to these angels later today. Their FP is an absolute masterpiece and I hope it sails them to a podium position, because they deserve it!!!

If anyone is wondering about Vadym's post-FD reply in Russian on Instastory, a rough translation is:

Big thanks for your support. This is only the beginning.

I'm glad to know that his chin is up; that Avonley and he can feel the support of fans and friends (such as Alina Efimova, Gage Brown, and Christina Carreira); and that Avonley and Vadym enjoyed cheering for the senior GPF competitors in the RD.

ETA:

The GS recap of the FD has quotes from Avonley.

(And the GS recap of the RD had quotes from Avonley and Vadym.)

I can't wait to see them again at US Nationals later this month.

I added a competitive history record to their OP.

:agree: Looking forward to Avonley and Vadym as a highlight in Detroit (for me, regardless of placement).

I must admit :hopelessness: that it already feels a little bittersweet :drama: to me that they (presumably) will have a new FD next season. (Which no doubt I will love as well. :ghug:)
Thank goodness for YouTube, where I have re-watched the several versions of this season's glorious FD :luv17: many times.

Their small choreo changes along the way have me curious as to whether Nats will bring any more.
For example, I really liked their arm positioning for the first set of FD twizzles at Skate Detroit, and wonder whether it ever will come back.

Belatedly came across a small additional detail related to their delayed arrival in Vancouver (out of their control, of course):

… arrived one day later than planned and missed the official practice the first practice day. They were able, however, to arrange a separate practice time in the evening, but without their music played. …

http://iceskatingintnl.com/Competitions/results_gpf/2018 GPF Juniors.htm

Better than nothing, although it still is a shame that they could not attend official practice.

But I don't want to sound as if I were dwelling on the on the past.
I am super-excited to see them in Detroit. :yay:

Long new Q and A with Avonley and Vadym:

[ETA: Conducted before JGPF, but newly published today.]

Lots of interesting stuff here. :)

Good luck to Avonley and Vadym at Nats. :yay:

:agree: Yes, even though the program is ethereal, I loved :luv17: all the loud [ETA: almost rowdy :)] audience reactions in the Skate Detroit video. A very knowledgeable crowd there, I imagine. Including both ice-dance aficionados and friends.

And … USFS fanzone has a new interview today with Avonley and Vadym. Excerpt:

... Emotion and passion are two words both the Ohio-born Nguyen and Kolesnik, originally from Ukraine, use often. They stand out on the junior circuit because they bring a senior-level performance quality to their skating, even though they have only been together for two seasons. It is evident not just in their beloved free dance, but in this year's rhythm dance. ...

Some great photos of Avonley and Vadym's FD at Nats are on The Oakland Press website.

Nine taken by Jose Juarez are part of a big gallery (scroll down past the photos of the Greens).

Individual links below. (Although the truncated versions of the links look the same, they all are different links.)

Post-FD article had another great photo, as well as quotes from Avonley and Vadym:

Novi's Nguyen and Kolesnik finish 2nd in junior dance

https://www.theoaklandpress.com/spo...cle_3b812480-20e3-11e9-a8af-bf1b6b429f9e.html

Post-RD article, which also has quotes (plus off-ice photo in team jackets):

Novi junior ice dancers place second to start U.S. Figure Skating competition

For the sake of completeness, the USFS fan zone recaps of junior dance also have quotes:

As for my own personal reaction, Avonley and Vadym really were the #1 highlight of Nats for me. Seeing them skate live, both in practice and in competition, was an absolute thrill. I'm so happy for them that they won the FD decisively. And it was a great pleasure to meet them. Very endearing human beings. :luv17:

A total surprise at Nats was discovering Vadym's cool cantilevers -- which he casually rocked before the end of two different warm-ups in the practice rink.

The first one came completely out of the blue, and my eyes popped open with amazement.
And I was equally delighted to catch the second one a day or two later.

Vadym made them look so easy (although I am sure they are not) and fun. :hap93:

they were in florida, I wonder if they work with Marina

Just my opinion, but I doubt it.

I think Avonley and Vadym simply were taking a well-deserved post-Nats mini-break-- from the bitter cold at home, for one thing.
I was happy to see them enjoying the sun, the beach, ice cream, etc.

So happened that the day that they flew to Florida, the high temperature in Detroit was in the negative double-digits Fahrenheit. (I myself escaped Detroit the day before.)

Found this interesting interview on Instagram this morning... Avonley and Vadym have added choreographer/coach to their team, have made changes to the RD and have their sights set high for Junior Worlds!!! They talk about their early training a bit and discuss school schedules too... Vadym talked about getting into skating to keep fit as a youngster because he was "a small elephant" weight wise :eeking: SO hard to imagine!!!
The very BEST for this wonderful team at Junior Worlds!!

And the interview is great. :)

Best to Avonley and Vadym at Junior Worlds. :hap85:

p.s.

Not blaming elbkup, of course -- but I hope that people will *not* click on the link from the unethical Insta-theft account.

I hate :dev2: that the third-party Insta account (unrelated to IFS magazine) has a habit of shamelessly copying and pasting entire articles, as it did with the one about Avonley and Vadym. One of my pet peeves is stealing content. ("Stealing" is the right word even if the source link is given at the end of the copied-and-pasted full text. I see no indication that IFS magazine gave permission to reprint the full text.)

For me, stealing entire articles is not acceptable as a way to bring good articles to the attention of a third party's followers.
OTOH, quoting just a few sentences and giving the original source link would be fine.

Sorry for the digression, but IMO, it's an important one.

Goooooooo, Avonley and Vadym. :yay:
