Z/G were ok at Skate America, but they still lack a certain 'je ne sais quoi' to distinguish them from other couples. They look terrific as a couple, it's just not translated into their skating so well. Their music choices, for me, are ok, not spectacular. I don't think it's enough to make the world go "wow check out these Russians".

I feel the same about Z/G.

I think that it's because they are so tall but don't really take advantage of that? They could have terrific lines but somehow it's still one of their weakness IMO.
Domnina/Shabalin (who were tall for ice dancers but shorter than Z/G) for example, especially in their Gorshkov years were all about the lines in the lifts, transitions.

Z/G at this point are more about speed than lines.

Z/G definitely need to polish up, but I don't think Kustarova is capable of that.

Curious about how S/A will look at Skate Canada.

Kustarova tends to be all about the tricks and speed doesn't pay as much attention to finesse. But Tiffany is still dealing with injury right. Her partner Ryabinina (spelling might be wrong) has done a nice job with Diana Davis and Gleb S. If they plan to stay together they could be special, their edging is just so smooth and she in particular knows how to dance on ice.

Why don't they contemplate working with Gorshkov?

Thinking out loud do you think Abashkina was right in calling it quits? Drozd just went right along with the flow and reportedly picked up Konkina. And here is Vakhnov again sitting on his hands without a partner, because to be honest he isn't all that and a bag of chips.

Russian ice dance, messy as always. :)

I do agree that Z/G need some sort of specialist to bring out something else in their skating. Similar to what T/M are doing with Trankov in pairs.

Drozd should have gone to France, he should have run to France! The competition for ice dance in Russia is very deep and you can get far better specialists overseas. I think France could have also supported them moving to America/Canada to train. I think the whole drama with letting Drozd go from Russia could have been easily dealt with. Pavel has a very interesting star quality about him, but I don't think his current partner will help with developing that, nor will any coach in Russia.

Allegedly Abachkina/Drozd wanted to represent France first but Russia refused to let him go. Neither Federation was willing to release either skater, so he has to look for a partner in Russia.

Apparently, he is now trying out with Ksenia Konkina.

Anyone else impressed with Finnish couple Juulia Turkkila / Matthias Versluis?: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BDfZbOX7gHI

Night and day improvements from last season. Improvements throughout the season with new PBs at ONT and Finlandia Trophy. FD especially seems very well-choreographed. They may challenge for Top 5 at GP Finland.

I totally disagree.
Z/G can be easily distinguished from other couples. Especially Tiffany... she is very colouful on the ice, has strong basic skating skills and very good musicality. I would dare to say that she is the best competitive senior lady that Russia has right now. And she and Jon are very well matched. Of course, their programs need polishing, especially the free, but as Mark (from Eurosport) I think said they potentially can be something extraordinary.

Moving to Montreal isn’t a solve for everyone. Sasha Fear and George Waddle for example have been there a while and haven’t had much success.

They don't train there full time, as far as I know. My understanding is that the majority of their time is spent training in the U.K. And also, 2017-18 was their first season as a team.

I think you were right until this season. I know that Lilah, her sister, and Lewis train almost full time in Montreal now.

I didn’t say what I said in order to say that I didn’t like Fear/Wadell but only that Gaboise isn’t a quick fix for every dance team just like other big name coaches aren’t a fix for Singles skaters.

Alexandra Paul / Mitchell Islam did not improve much after moving to Gadbois.
Élisabeth Paradis / François-Xavier Ouellette did not even make the FD at Worlds...

By no mean am I bashing Gadbois but anyone that has followed Ice Dance for a while knows that trends come and go. Zueva was the IT coach for some time...where is she now?

Going back to European ice dance. I wish there were more training centers for ice dancers in Europe Instead of having to move to North America.
Sadly Lyon is basically irrelevant today.
I appreciate what Barbara Fusar-Poli is doing but what will happen after Guignard/Fabbri retire?
Fabian Bourzat moved back to France but he only has Nazarova & Nikitin who are looking so undertrained because of their financial situation...

Fusar-Poli must have some other pairs training with her? She seems to be a more notable European coach. What about the ice dance coach for Capellini/Lanote?

Again I can't believe the French was so bloody stupid to let Abachkina retire. She was seriously the next IT girl in ice dance (regardless of partner).

She has 2 teams leaving her for Montreal this summer (Komatsubara/Koleto and Plutowska/Flemin) and 1 retired (Mysliveckova/Csolley)
The ones she still has include

Tessari/Fioretti
Moscheni/Fabbri
Koch/Nochtern
Manni/Roethlisberger
Righi/Dubrovin (Junior)

What about the ice dance coach for Capellini/Lanote?

In the other Milan skating centre there are

Calderone/Papetti
Jakucs/Galli
Campanini/Riva (Junior)

I think Giada Russo is trying to switch to Ice Dance.

Based on this early season Moscheni/Fabbri looks ahead of Calderone/Papetti for Italian third spot. They will face each other at Riga Volvo Cup in 2 weeks

Considering how healthy the solo and paired ice dance scene is in the UK and France I wish both Associations would club together and set up a skating school in Brittany or something.
