OK, so because I am getting so confused, it is going to take a bit longer to make out the post than it did last week.

So, what I’ll do is post what I have done so far (i.e. British Eurosport), and then add in the other versions over the next day or so.

Sorry if this causes any inconvenience to our continental friends

CaroLiza_fan

EDIT: Please be aware that the times for some of the LIVE broadcasts listed below bare no resemblance to the actual schedule of Skate Canada. But, that's Eurosport's TV Schedules for you!

So, if you want watch LIVE, I would advise you to instead make your plans using the coloured time schedule with the aid of a time converter

I'm currently trying to make out the TV Schedule post from the Eurosport Player website listings, and I am pulling my hair out! A lot of the labels make no sense at all!

Like, there are 3 Player streams labelled "Original Dance", 2 of which are on at exactly the same time on Saturday morning, and the other which is on 24 hours later on Sunday morning!

I assume the Sunday one is the Free Dance. But, why are there 2 streams on the Saturday?!

And then there is the confusion over the time change. Does the Ladies Free coverage start at 02:00 BST or 02:00 GMT?

It is complicated enough making the schedule out for the time change weekend at the best of times. But it is even more complicated this year because one of the North American competitions is that weekend, which means coverage at or around the time of the change.

:hpull: :hpull: :hpull:

Not the way you want to feel on your birthday...

Firstly Happy Birthday! x

Secondly yeah the labels are really odd on the player. Everything was labelled Pairs Short for a while. But the stuff on from the 27th seems to be correctly labelled when I search for it. Really shoddy work from the scheduling department but perhaps they don’t even know what they’ll show until they show it.

There should be something on today at 20:00 and tomorrow at 2am so I guess we’ll find out soon enough!

Happy belated birthday, CaroLiza_fan!
Thanks for all your work. I can imagine things are even more complicated than normal with Europe going to wintertime during in the middle of Skate Canada (seem to recall we've had this issue before...).

Anyway, just wanted to report that the print (!) TV guide I still subscribe to arrived today (for next week), and it looks like in the Netherlands (and so I suspect elsewhere as well), there'll be extensive coverage of the Helsinki GP in the afternoon on television, at least on Friday. It's a good timezone for Eurosport commentators, I guess that helps. ;-)

Yes it looks good here too - fingers crossed! Of course things can and invariably will change for worse closer to the event but we still can hope can't we...
Meanwhile how irritating is that tendency to leave out one discipline totally - for SA it was Men - no SP or LP and for SC the Ladies again no SP & LP :dev2:

Sorry to butt in, but the Player schedule is completely wrong for the Men and Pairs Free live. They're afternoon time Canada time, so should be evening time UK/Europe, plus also LIVE. I have no idea where they've got them to be 07:00 and 09:00 UK/European time, but that would be 2/4 a.m. Canada time. Just pointing this out so people know that there really should be live skating on the Saturday evening in very many European countries, and on the main TV channels.

Now you see why I have been getting so confused and frustrated the past couple of days! As I said before, the Eurosport schedule just doesn't make sense at all!

You know it's wrong, I know it's wrong, and every figure skating fan that can read the coloured time schedule with the aid of a time converter knows it's wrong. But the people at Eurosport don't seem to know it!

And until they realise, there's not much can be done about it.

That was why I was putting off doing any more of the schedule post, to see if they would fix it. But, I decided this morning to just go on ahead and post what they have said. Even though it is wrong. Because it is getting close to the event starting, and I have other things to prepare before it starts (not least my Predictions).

This is the perfect example of why I hate Eurosport at times!

I know it doesn't solve the Eurosport issue, but I found what appears to be a really great, easy to read timetable of the events on Twitter, with a really clear conversion for almost every timezone. I guess you could then cross compare it with Eurosport?

Unfortunately I've been searching and I can't find the tweet, I only have my screenshot. Is there any way to link a photo to here that isn't on a website?

Has the photo. Hope it helps decipher some things! It appears that the timings as as perfect for England as you could expect given how far away Canada is - so much better than last week!

If you are a GS supporter, you can put an image directly into a post by using the "Insert Image" button (beside the "Quote" button) on the toolbar when you are writing a post. This will bring up a dialogue box which gives you the option of either uploading from your computer, or hotlinking to a website.

Wait I stand corrected.

Thank you tabsy!  :points: :thank:

I don't know why, but Skate America always has a strange timetable compared to the rest of the GP Series. And because of that, it isn't as user friendly for us that are watching in Europe.

Skate Canada, on the other hand, uses the regular GP timetable (all Shorts on Friday; all Frees on Saturday; Gala on Sunday). And although you do still get things on in the wee small hours, on the whole the timings for Skate Canada are better for us than they were for Skate America.

I like Canada...

Canadians seem to like the 2 day with breaks in between the performances. I'm always super impressed with the Russians because they seem to only stop for Ice resurfacing with no lunch or dinner breaks. Makes me think Russian fans are super hardy folks. Do they go without eating or do they literally run off to the food stand at high speed tossing others out of their way? Or do they sneak in food and snack during the ice resurfacing? I can't see how you make it to the snack bar, stand in line, get food and get back to your seat in 20 minutes. It's great for watching as a fan though. 20 minutes at home is more than enough for snack making in the kitchen.

Unfortunately the GPF (and 4 Continents) are west coast North America so the time difference will be 8 hours which will probably turn out really badly, especially as the Senior GP events will almost certainly be later in the day because of the juniors beforehand. It'll probably turn into a true test about how keen they are about showing skating. Hopefully they'll show highlights and full ones, but live it's quite likely we'll get nothing as they show very little live sport in the middle of the night.

4 Continents will likely to be the same. If some of the competitions are early local time we'd be fine, but it wouldn't be good for the Asian countries where the majority of competitors are from, and it can't be too late local time because that would knock out East Coast North America. Hence I suspect they'll be in the early hours UK/Europe time no matter what, which will happen to be OK for East Asia as it'll be morning/lunchtime there.

Nooooo  my hopes and dreams are crushed :drama: the one upside is that I am also seriously looking forward to the JGPF, so if that's earlier in the day than the seniors, at least I'll be able to watch that! So you think the timings for the seniors and 4CC will work out more like SA was last week?

Well not quite the same because SA had competitions quite early on the Sunday, west coast North America time. I would expect it to be more like SC, but 3 hours later because Vancouver and Anaheim are 3 hours later than Quebec. However it is just possible we could have competitions very late evening UK/Europe time.

You've probably got to work backwards because of them not showing live sport in the middle of the night. If a segment finishes by about midnight CET time you might well get it. That would be 3 p.m. west coast North America time, so probably not good for the GPF, but possibly OK for 4 Continents given the number of competitions/competitors to get through. Also it might be reasonable enough for really dedicated fans to watch on the Player, even if it's not being shown on the linear channels.

Thanks for info. I find time zones inexplicably confusing...I do have Eurosport Player so I'm aiming to watch anything that is on at an even vaguely reasonable time...

I sent a terse email to the Eurosport Player support and so now all the videos on demand should be labelled correctly. As of today Pairs Short & Free, Ladies Free, Free Dance and Higlights (different lady commentator) all have commentary.

They’re showing up correctly on my phone but if anyone has the TiVo app, PC or Xbox could check then we can know they’ve done their job.

Hopefully we won’t have this problem with Skate Canada.

Wow. That makes a change. In the past, whenever anybody has mentioned that they have e-mailed Eurosport, it has produced nothing.

Maybe this new ownership is starting to make a difference...

Incidentally, the lady commentator you refer to is Catherine Whittaker. Like Simon, tennis is the main sport she commentates on. However, she certainly knows what she is talking about when it comes to figure skating, because she used to be a Singles skater when she was younger.

iirc/afaik, NHK Trophy competition days typically have been Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The same is true again this year.

So whether "strange" or not "regular" or whatever you choose to call it, Skate America is in good company.

Plus this year, GP Helsinki competition days also are Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
